Side Effects of Vision Therapy for Strabismus and Lazy Eye

Vision therapy is amazing. You can go from an eye turn, double vision, suppression and only 2D vision to 3D vision and straight eyes....but it isn't a straight path.
There are definite hills and struggles in the journey and side effects of retraining your brain.

Hi, I went through this "vision training", and I was effective at it. Each case - is unique. A child is very frustrated doing this "exercise". Even today, I still control my own fusion. I never had double vision. I just let one eye "drift out". Then, could bring at back. I blame my, " nose on page", reading habit as a child - completely. I also had "eye surgery". In my opinion, not necessary. Only training with a steroptican (3 D image ) solved the problem.

I am 2 weeks in with my vision therapy and I have alot of those symptoms you mentioned but also getting headaches or migraines. Did you experience that and how long did you do vision therapy for? Right now I am 5 days on and 2 days off.

I appreciate your presentation very much. Where should I start if I am having AN INCREDIBLY difficult time adjusting to an amblyopic lazy eye that is trying to see but only producing confusion. It did not bother me until my mother (no longer alive) took me to a doctor when I was younger who performed a YAG laser treatment on the lazy eye. The procedure removed a congenital cataract that was suppressing vision in the eye. Now I have a visual insult from the eye causing me much grief. Your thoughts...

Hi - I am now a 70 year old woman who has diagonal double vision, divergence insufficiency. I had cataracts out in 2016. I’ve always had contacts to see things in the distance until I had my cataracts out. For no apparent reason, I started having sporadic dv in 2019. My optometrist gave me prisms and said to “get used to it” when I continued having dv. It is now 4 years later, I found a dr of NORA training and have had 34 weeks of vision therapy. He said he couldn’t guarantee success, but at this point I could nothing else. I’ve been through every test for neurological problems and as nothing showed up, the specialists have told me to patch. 😢 My 34 weeks of vt have not helped at all and they don’t go past 39 weeks, so I’m left with this horrible dv. Could you just tell me if you’ve heard of anything like this? I’d really appreciate it. I’ve worked so hard to make my eyes see correctly again! Am I expected to have vision like this for the rest of my life? Thank you.

So its mean the double vision never fades away it is always there. It is all up to the person to ignore DV through focusing on left and right of their region to reduce DV. Right ? After surgery there always will be little deviation so that both eye focus on different object at same time to reduce Double vision ??

No double vision is definitely not always present! If I am really tired or sick, I get some double or if I haven't been taking care of my vision, but I rarely experience double vision anymore. It was part of the process, but is now over. Working on peripheral vision made a HUGE difference. My course learn.strabismussolutions.com/mastering-peripheral-vision teaches all about it!

Hi I have strabismus, exotropia. I got it when I fell off a movong motorcycle in 2021 and got double vision. I had surgery 3 months later because the eye muscles were trapped behind the skull. Everything was returned to their correct place. But I still have strabismus with double vision and poor balance. I blocked one of my lens with black tape so I can go about my life as normally as possible I saw one of your videos on eye patching and started doing that. Unfortunately where I live vision therapy ia not available. My doctor recommended that I have another surgery but am not keen. Today I watched this video and wonder, where do I start from, please I will appreciate all help. Thanks

Definitely not. I don't know anyone in my extended family that has strabismus and I have 15 aunts and uncles and dozens of cousins. My two children had accommodation problems that we did Vision Therapy for. Their eyes are straight though.
