My left earbud last for only 10-15 minutes and right one last upto 4 hrs... This is my last sony product and I will never ever look at any product from sony...

I’m with you, though mine is the right one that lasts at most 20 minutes. A few days after the update arrived, my warranty expired, which they were awesome before this update. So goodbye Sony!

25 mins maximum on right, left was replaced before warranty expired so lasts a fee hours. Not thinking of buying another sony again!

Thanks, Aaron, your vids have been really helpful in dealing with xm4 issues. Got mine replaced last December right after watching your video on 1.4.2 firmware. My battery lasted longer with 1.5.0 maybe of the fresh batteries. Still ok on 1.6.1. Started noticing signifcant shorter battery life with new update 2.0 past few days even with multipoint turned off. Also having same problem when connected to 2 devices with youtube pausing every now and then, which was why I stopped using multipoint. Hope Sony fixes these issues soon, don't want a repeat of what happened with 1.4.2 since my warranty already expired this year.

Most of the xm4 units are facing battery issue by now, though most of them are replaced already but as sony is launching their new xm5 soon and most of the potential customers are those who already having issue with xm4,i doubt they gonna buy it again...sony should have come up with solution, they should do something for the huge number of customers who are( 1.fan of sound quality 2.high tier spenders 3.loyal sony fan).... currently people are completely freaking out.... I personally bought two of xm4s ,and I don't think I am gonna buy again...

Yeah I loved mine and my original pair got the drain issue. I waited for a good deal to buy a new pair without the issue. I mat not buy Sony in the future after the way they handled this.

@tristougang No, just found a good holiday special and picked up a second pair that came with the new software. FYI sony just put out a mp3 player, Nw 306 (?) and there are reports that the original batches have sound and software issues. They just pushed out a software fix because the player is android. I'm learning to wait before purchasing anything Sony.

@@MichaelCDavis1 I mean, there were lots of similar cases for the XM4, and most of the time Sony recovered the failed products and sent another one even when the warranty was expired so you could've tried your luck on this.

@@iamjanyel Yep I just received a new one last week, and mine was far outside of the warranty period as I bought it on release.

Sony should include another setting in the Sony Headphones Connect app that allows the earbuds to be charged to 80% max to greatly increase the total number of times the WF-1000XM4's batteries can be charged and to slow down battery degradation.

Mine always charge up to 100%, but what I have discovered is if you don't launch the app the Sony headphone app and you switch off all the excess bells and whistles the battery in both earbuds last much longer.

I never had the battery issue. The latest software has not made battery life worse or better. I don't use multipoint and was on 1.4.2 before this update.

After the update, I also re-tweaked my custom EQ settings - to emphasize bass even more than before (a massive "V" !). So presumably that affects drain? Further, I guess drain depends not only on the buds' level-setting but also on the spectral content and degree of dynamic range compression in the music (or whatever) itself.

My batteries got all whacked out after upgrading from 1.5>2.0; initially seeing a difference of about 15% by the time one of the buds died. I gave my headphones a few cycle-throughs and am pleased to report that both IEM's are draining within 1-2% of each other. Perhaps the firmware pushed out an improvement which forced the BMS into recalibration mode.

Mine are still screwed. I get 30 minutes top for either when "fully charged" and one bud is closer to 15 or 20 mins. Im gutted. I loved these buds until the battery screw up. Im still unsure what new ones to get. I half want to get the same sony ones because I loved them so much, but I cant take the chance of the same issue repeating.

Another new update firmware. My XM4 was down to about 1.5 hours of battery life. After installing the new firmware my XM4 went from showing 95% to 68-69%. I will charge it again and see if there are any changes to battery life. My XM4 was purchased summer 2021

I am not using multipoint, i updated from 1.4.2 with no issues to 2.0.0 and battery is lasting a lot less.

Hi Aaron, found out about the battery drain issue on the launch models from your channel. My buds are off warranty and developed the fast/uneven drain issue so sent them in for service/replacement. No word from Sony yet after a week. How long did it take for Sony to get back to you and send back your buds? Thanks!

I am getting my new buds tomorrow. I dropped them at FedEx for RMA 14 days ago. It took 2 days after they received them to acknowledge they got them and then 1 more day to send me the new ones.

Back in June this year it was working perfectly for me but after the 2.0.1 update the left one seemed to die after 1 hour with my usual settings while my right one can last about 5-6 hours. Like ive contacted sony and they are wanting me to send them back however its out of warranty which means it can cost about 100 quid just to fix them. Ive bought them when they first came out and ive never had a problem with them until now. So it may be because it is the older batch but like people spend 200 odd pounds to get these and then they get faulty

I bought a new 1000xm4 3 days ago and immediately installed the new firmware. I noticed that when I put the headphones in the charging case and clamp the contact lock installed on delivery between the headphones and the charging case so that the headphones are not charged and then switch them off by command in the app, so that they are virtually in the delivery state, they then strongly self-discharge with 35 percent in a few hours. If, on the other hand, you put them in the charging case normally, even though both headphones have just been fully charged, the case then discharges in order to permanently recharge the headphones, which discharge themselves even though they are actually switched off. Of course, this quickly drains the batteries if they are permanently discharged and simultaneously charged to 100 per cent again. Something is very wrong here

It did not change anything for me, the right earbud stops after 10 minutes. Spent hours with Sony on the phone, factory reset many times, charged completely many times, NO CHANGES ! Glad that Sony finally asked me to send it back for a full exchange with a new one. Its a slow process (About 2 weeks), but at least they will do it free of charges.

Just had my left touchpad go nuts. It constantly switched from NC off/on/ambient out of the blue. Sent it off for repair and I got a completely new left earbud. Only a matter of time before the right one breaks down 😢

Went from: 4 hours to 3 hours to 2 hours to 1 hour to 30 minutes to 20 minutes per charge. I don't think I'm ever buying anything Sony again.

I gave up on my XM4 earbuds already. Now using version 2.0 and the battery still drains very fast, it lasts around 20 min only. Looks like I will need to go to one of the Sony Center and get the battery replaced.

When the Linkbuds S and XM4 is OFF how much should battery drain per Hour???

Mi first pair had problems discharging faster on one side than the other. Disconnecting randomly from one side or both at the same time. Fortunately, i had insurance with BestBuy and exchanged it on spot, no questions asked. This new set, works better but i noticed the right side discharging faster than the left side, but wont disconnect. I don’t know if the battery life is longer or not, since i never check. If i start to have problems with it again, i gonna take them back and get something else; like Boss or JBL

mine doesnt have battery issue so far, but some white noise on right side when turning on nc even not connected.

It’s also possible that some people accidentally downloaded the squirmware instead of the firmware. My friend’s cousin may have done this and he hasn’t been the same since. 🤠

Currently in the 2.0.0 firmware, with LDAC and DSEE active all the time. I swap from Ambient Aware to NC. Battery is doing fine. I think this could be because it's a newer XM4; bought in late June 2023

It definitely does my right ear runs out now while the left still has 25 to 30% left and the overall battery life is about 1 1/2 2 hours less.

Hey Aaron, I had same issue with left bud. 16 months after purchase date. Went to Sony´s repair center in Mexico City and they replaced both earbuds for new ones (model b). No cost for me. Excellent service from SONY Mexico.

Cuando llegué les dije que ya había contactado al centro de atencióna clientes por whatsapp y que ahí me dijeron que los llevara al centro de servicio y que no tendría costo.. Yo argumenté que tuve el problema de drenado de batería después de actualizar el FW. Así es que era culpa de ellos. La srita que me atendió me dijo que iba a entrar a revisión sin costo poque efectivamente había muchos casos así.

@@roamablee yes, update... For me they changed both earbuds, the process took around a week because they had to check if the problem was the case, if it was you need to pay for the replacement, no need for explanations it doesn't matter where/when did you buy them.

I want them to add a feature when you tap both buds simultaneously it turns off all touch actions :)

Before multipoint 8 hrs after multipoint 4-5hrs but with balanced draining. And that pausing one device when multipoint is on also happens to me when its laptop and phone , but iPad and phone is all good.

my year old ones are currently getting replaced by Sony for left dieing quicky while the right still had 60% left. I hope the new one is better. I hardly even used the left on, I mostly use the right one.

not upgrading a new xm4 can be the solution?

My XM4's did not have the battery drain prob on 1.4.2. both earbuds lasted roughly 7-8 hrs fairly evenly. Now with 2.0 the right side drains considerably faster. The left side would still have 68-70% power when the right side dies. What a mess. So disappointed with Sony.

I am experiencing the exact same problem on 2 seperate sets of WF-1000XM4s. Both sets of my WF-1000XM4s were working perfectly on firmware 1.4.2. I updated both of them to the latest firmware version 2.0.0 and immediately afterwards the battery in the right earbud on both units will go from 100% to 0% in 1 hour and 30 minutes. I am out of warranty on both units, but Sony said they will replace them for free as long as my WF-1000XM4s do not show any signs of physical damage. I live in the UK and purchased both my WF-1000XM4s from Amazon.

Yess you are right old unit does have issues with battery. I got my xm4 on May 2022 (firmware - 1.4.2) after 8 months of use (357 hours) my left earbuds starts draining from 100% to 20% in just 2.5 hours of use. On Feb sony replaced batteries on both the earbuds now I have zero issues regarding batteries. Currently using firmware 2.0.0.

Here is my experience using the 2.0.0. First my headset is almost brand new, I got a replacement due to battery issue on the right earbud. I got them 2 months ago with 1.6.1 version and they did work well with around 6h using ldac+anc. I updated to 2.0.0 and it seems that battery last less since the update but now I have another issue : right earbud stucks at 100% while the left earbud seems to report the good battery level... At the end, the right earbud turns itself without warning and I still have about 25% left on the other side. For me, it's still a mess.

Yes. This has been the very same for me but only in one of my pairs for some strange reason.

Thank you but I DO have an issue with the battery since 2.0.0 My left earbud charged during the all night but the battery level is only 90% (100% for the right earbud)

There seems to be a bug switching ANC, AMBIENT and OFF when multipoint switching is ON. toggling ANC seems to not work sometimes.

Another factor: Most-used bud -> greater battery wearout? I tend to use my buds in single-bud/ear mode a lot. My favourite ear for this is the right-hand (😄) one. That is also the one that now seems to have least battery charge-life. Presumably in consequence of that greater usage.

yes, the batteries lose "health" with each charging cycle. its the battery technology (very convenient for the producer: planned obsolescence...)

36 days now have passed and my XM4's are STILL in the service center waiting for REPLACEMENT!! Gotta LOVE it! NEVER sony AGAIN!

The new update changed the buds to a right bud master left bud slave. No single left bud use anymore. Explains the extra battery drain. Please don't "upgrade" if you use single buds

After 2.0 update. My XM4 is good when connected to phone. but when connected to my PC it only last 1hr plus.

Alright, putting out my story out there in case someone can make sense of it. Since recently, I hadn't seen any battery problem - iirc, until a few weeks after a software update. I was surprised one day, I plopped in my right earphone and it felt hot - pulled it back, set it back in the case, and got it out 5 min later with a thermal camera. A hotspot below the charging pads was at 45-50°. This heating only happened once, but since then my right earbud only lasts about 20-30 minutes, and the left one maybe twice as long... Idk if Sony could have messed something up with the battery charging in their firmware update, I ordered replacement batteries and will attempt self repair, hoping that'll fix the problem. (Disclaimer : could also be natural battery degradation which caused this heating problem in the first place, since I often use a single earphone while cycling and it's always the right one given It's my left ear facing traffic - so my right earbud definitely saw the most use and rapid temperature changes...)

Same problem here and I had the same problem with the wf1000xm3. So the problem is Sony. Both in less 1 year. In my case, I will not buy or recommend Sony headphones again.

@@yonatanklein yes replacement makes it last several hours but be aware of heating up bud to remove battery it will melt so do not put alot of heat and after replacing make sure apply glue properly you dont wanted to ended up half air bud hanging out while jogging

Ok so what I have done is I have not launched the Sony headphones app and I've turned off all the excess bells and whistles and so far the left and right batteries are pretty much equal. They've been in my ears for about an hour now.

my left earbud is hardly managing 30 minutes. it was absolutely okay just around two months ago.

I have noticed a significant drop in battery life recently, especially with the right earbud. The only change I made besides installing the latest software update is that I turned on google assistant. I heard this effects the right earbud especially. ** I see someone mentioned something about the charging case getting quite hot as well, the same thing happened to me recently.** Any thoughts from anyone else out there

Change the batteries in em it’s really easy it took me 30 minutes to get the whole thing done from materials I ordered from the getting place. And now I’ve been using them like when they where new.

I’m so annoyed - I bought a brand new pair as soon as they came out, and then after the 1.4 firmware update the earbuds started overheating when charging, and the battery lasts no more than 15 minutes. I contacted Sony Singapore, but they said they wouldn’t cover it as it was out of warranty. It was Sony’s fault the ear buds broke with their failed software update (which appears to have affected thousands of units), but they simply washed their hands of it.

To fix drainage problem. I UPDATED 1.6.1 then I turned off everything including updates. Battery life good. I am happy.

I'm still having 1 hour bug problem and Sony telling me they can't help.

With multipoint battery drain is much higher + I get a lot more static. Disabled it and all returned to normal

Found you because just two days ago my right earbud started dying in less than an hour from full. I've had the multi-point firmware for about a month, and my one-year-old 1000XM4's were fine, lasting several hours until suddenly degrading without a firmware update. I'm going to contact Sony. Thanks for all your videos! They were helpful in my learning that there's something wrong and it wasn't just me.

I want to add.... their multi-point implementation is DREADFUL. I turned it off two weeks ago. I had my phone and ipad both paired, and would often leave my ipad in another room while listening to my phone. When you're at the wrong distance, it would connect and disconnect and reconnect and disconnect and play sounds each time as I moved my head around and it went back and forth. Their multipoint pairing is, in my opinion, a total miss from a software engineering perspective.

Hello guys, I hope y'all be fine. I brought on eBay a earbud replacement (Right) for Sony wf-1000xm4 and came with the 2.6 firmware version, mine have 4.5 firmware version. And now when I'm trying to update, failed in 51% always then I have to start it again 2% to 51% and again....... I need help

I had read before that if both buds are not on the same firmware, you cannot pair them or update them.

I've had these since early january 22, and never had an issue. Battery is fantastic compared to my previous Bose.

I had mine after Sept 2021 im sure you will have the same issue soon :D

This is still an issue, new update wont let me charge my earbuds anymore due to overheating. It sucks, i really like these earbuds.

I could use my XM4 for couple hours without any issues, but after the recent update (i've never used the app until last month) and the battery is now shite.. It drains at times within an hour, and at best just over an hour. It's ridiculous

My right side just went from 100% to off in just 16mins..

Left side does not last more than 1h now!!! After the upgrade

Before update ı have been using my earbuds overall 6 hours. After software update o can use are only 45 minutes.

I thought mine were defective. Connecting to 2 devices has halved there battery life..

2 hours at the gym, from 100% - right side was at 37%, left side 62%... Abysmal...

Same for me, asking $270 for this is a scam..

Since the firmware update, I get less than an hour on the left and 3-4 hours on the right earbuds. Before the update, I got 3+ hours on both earbuds.

This is the 2nd time I'm facing this issue, absolutely frustrating.... I don't think I'll buy another earphone from Sony ever again.

my 5 cents here. now. i am no expert. could it be linked to how the buds are set up? i.e linked to voice activation, Alexa etc. voice to chat. its just a thought. correct me if i am wrong.

Yes those do affect battery life too

i have battery drain on both buds. my right bud 97 percent. played music for about 15min to 83 percent.
