I also returned my WF XM4s to the service center, the problem though was not battery, but was the cracking noise in the right earbud that does not stop, they said it will be replaced for free because it is still covered by the 1 year warranty, I hope it will be new hardware with the 1.5 update. Great vid Aaron!
Thanks for your video, I just got my free new unit WF 1000xm4 early today. It has the same battery performance. Left 19% while right 0% down with firmware 1.5.0.
Hey you got the new unit with new firmware update? That's great. My one is with old one but the old firmware call quality is really better than my previous unit. Sony Singapore is little better now. Because my Xperia 5 II had green line issue. I sent to Sony Singapore from Sri Lanka and they fixed it. They charged for that one but customer service is really good now. 😊
Mine just had this problem, and surprisingly Sony is exchanging it for a new pair. It's been out of warranty for over a year, so I was honestly shocked lol. Thankfully the place I have to send it to is just in the next state from mine, so shouldn't take too long. 😊

I got a replacement too of the xm4 earbud wasint as much a battery issue as was starting to have connection issues and going into mono signal sometimes but New replacement do havE vEry good battery life
Because you received a new unit you don't know if it was a hardware or a software issue. I am on 1.4.2 and do not have battery issues, at least not yet :) My serial number starts with 6 so they do not appear to be from a newer production.
Thanks for your excellent posts on the xm4 problem. I just sent my xm4s to Sony yesterday due to the right ear battery drain issue - it was failing and shutting down after 10 minutes having dropped apparently to 45% battery (according to the app). Your video gives me some confidence the outcome will be OK as I don't really want to spend another ~$A260 on headphones. One minor suggestion. I also have the same Dyson fan and always tell my kids not to pick it up from the circular part, in accordance with Dyson instructions this circle isn't designed to carry the weight of the electric motor.

Are your xm4 still under warranty? I was reading the Sony website and saids that is 1 year for those earbuds. I’m having drain issues on the left but mine are pass warranty so Idk if Sony will still get this right

@@alexandermontoya6891 The buds were formally out of warranty, so were basically only covered by Australian consumer law and a product being fit for purpose. Because only one bud in the pair was faulty, it was clearly an equipment rather than user fault - e.g. running the batteries flat too often. Sony could've been difficult but came through on this one.
My 1year warranty ended on August this year but upon registering my product on the sony asia website, I was given an additional 3 months warranty. Will try to send mine to the service centre on Monday. Hopefully they will fix it. Update #1: The service centre person said Sony also acknowledges the this bug and will accept replacement for out of warranty xm4s. I was also told to wait 1-2 weeks before the replacements are ready. Update #2: Got the replacement buds the same week. Sent it for RMA on Monday and got the call from the service center on Thursday. They only replaced the two buds and gave me back the same charging case. They are on the 1.5.0 firmware. Tested it for about 5hours and still have about 70-80% battery of both earbuds. The battery drain is somewhat inconsistent with the right earbud drained a bit faster (100% on left and 96% on the right bud) but at least it fixes the problem and the right earbud could now last more than an hour.

Hi I know I am late but I read that the battery draining faster on 1 earbud is because you have voice assistance on which mean your microphone is always on to pick when you say hello google , if you don't use it turn it off and update if the battery is better now

I didn’t get mine replace. Rm280 for the left side , rm260 for the right side. Thank you Sony Malaysia for giving me the privilege to feel one of the first few users and also first few user to stop using them.

Sony connect app will not display any new update past 1.4.2 I'm stuck on it and my right earbud drains 70% faster than the left. I don't know how to get the newest update to display in the sony app... very frustrating

Got them today in Black Week Sale with FW 1.5 already installed 😍 love them! Changed from the incredible wired Sony XBA-H3 and couldn't be happier (sure the H3 Sound has a tiny bit of more depth) but the fact that the m4's are true wireless, have amazing ANC and a totally stable LDAC connection (even set to maximum quality 900+) with my old Note 10+ just let's me forget the H3 😍

Great video Aaron. It’s interesting because I had the same firmware issue, (1.4.0) but my left earbud battery was depleted at a rate about 45 minutes as opposed to the right earbud. I recently sent them back and hopefully they will have the firmware 1.5 update and no more issues. Thank you for such a thorough review sir!

Hi Aaron! I just upgraded my wf-1000xm3 to a WF-1000xm4 and I've noticed that the right earbud has a sound like a "tinnitus" when the NC is on, nevertheless, this only happens when I'm not playing any kind of media. Do you think it's a problem of software?

Would you recommend buying these in 2023? I hope they fixed the drain issue, I like the design but I am running on Samsung Pods pro because of their mic quality, the callers can actually hear me clearly
My battery drains down consistently on both earbuds using 1.5.0, however I had to turn off voice assistant and speak-to-chat as that would drain down the rh earbud quicker.
Out of curiosity, did you test the old one with NEW stock tips? foam tips tend to break down after a while, and that can def affect overall noise isolation, especially in the higher frequencies.

That’s really good news about the replacement of the product. Me, I haven’t yet encountered any issues with my xm4’s , i guess it’s from the latest batch(4 months old). Still the firmware is 1.4.2 there’s no 1.5.0 update yet. Thank you for your video…😊

May I ask where you are from sir? I'm currently in Vietnam and my XM4 is still stuck on 1.4.2. No sign of 1.5 version yet. I had to replace the batteries of both earbuds and the case not even 2 months ago and the battery drain issue is resurfacing now, it's frustrating.

@@wilfreddias Thank you! Mine seems to be imported from Malaysia too. The battery draning is normal while in use. But when the buds are not in use, the battery drops really fast, like after one night, it's 0% next morning for my left bud and 60% for the right one. The right one was the one with that problem initially, and somehow that problem's transferred to the left one. And now the left bud overheats while charging too. It's insane how such an expensive product can survive this long with such a vital obvious flaw that is so overlooked.

@Aaron is Loud and Wireless HEYA. Sony actually did good by me and sent me a replacement WF-1000XM4 free of charge and shipping. BUT.. they're on 1.4.2 version and there's no avenue to get a 1.5.0 version of firmware. Not sure what's the requirement for that.. So far first day of testing went ok. Had 3 hours of use and went down to like 60% remaining in each bud.
Is it true that AirPods Max has worse ANC than before with software update just like they did with first gen AirPods Pro ?
I thought 1.5.0 call quality whilst not so brilliant was actually noticeable better than 1.4.2? Thanks for the video and info.

I have not yet received this upgrade to 1.5.0. I now have 1.4.2
I also got my mine back from the service center. In my case, they only replaced both earbuds. They are now in firmware 1.5.0, didn’t refunded the $10 that they charged for a diagnostic fee. No issues with me since my unit is already out of warranty. I haven’t tested it thoroughly though, but based on my usage they seem great. But the reason might be is because they are new. I’m planning on selling them now cause it might have the same issue after a year.

The call quality is clearly better in the new unit with the firmware 1.5.0! There's less crumbling echo noise, and the voice is a bit cleaner. And the ANC is also noticeably better. Good job Sony! I wonder if the firmware 1.5.0 will be released to all the units. Mine is from half a year ago, no discharge issues, but it's still on 1.4.2. It always had a fantastic ANC since the beginning though!

I really loved the WF-1000XM4 buds, but I have faced similar issues since version 1.4.2. However, for me it is the left ear bud that discharges much quicker, so I'm not completely sure if they were borked by the update, but the timing is right. In the UK and bought the week they were released so my warranty has now expired. I have the feeling that given yours were completely replaced and with 1.5.0, if that version is ever released for older batches, the damage is probably already done and 1.5.0 won't change things. I have since moved to Galaxy Buds2 Pro, which are fairly similar in many ways but less bulky... I tried cheaper models and brands, but the XM4s spoiled me, and I didn't want to risk purchasing them again.

I got a second Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro and feel like it's sound is smoother and not as fatiguing. The case battery also seems to last longer. On the flipside, they don't seem to slip into the charging contacts as securely.

Do you know if the "brighter" version or the "duller" version is more popular? Mine are the "brighter" one (the bottom of the case has Asian electrical components certification logos) but the battery got burned out due to the firmware issue, so I bought new ones from Amazon (while I wait for a refund) which has UK and CE electrical cert logos and these ones sound like the "duller" version (your old ones). I'm losing my mind over this, I bought this model due to that specific sound in the voices! Do you know if this variation is normal also in other brands or it's just Sony's QA being shit? Thanks!
it's good news Sony is doing this everywhere in the world, it's bad it's not like that in Latin America. I have the exact same issue, and nor the service center or sony official customer support will acknowledge the issue and exchange for free out of warranty. I'm now hoping that Argentina's Customer Defense will get them to finally acknowledge the issue and exchange for free just like everywhere in the world. i have the same issue but on my left earbuds discharging faster , Sony advise me to update the latest firmware of 1.61 but doesn't resolve my issue. just using the ear buds from both 100% after 20 mins , left ear buds showing 51`% and right ear buds are showing 93%... infomred Sony Singapore and they told me to bring it down for just for assessment its going to be $32.10
I purchased my xm4 Sep 21. I also experienced same issue with my right earbuds, first happen in Oct 22. First time i noticed something weird is my right earbud only charged up to 90%. And only last 2-3 hours. I will send it to sony centre in QB Penang, hopefully they can fix and replace it as my unit is out of warranty period. Thanks for your informative video. Keep it up!

I brought my xm4 to the service center last week, they replaced it and I got it back with firmware 1.5.0 within one week free of charge. Yes the right side still drains a little faster by 2 percent

Call the Sony customer service number and speak to a rep. They will ask you questions about the issue and troubleshooting. Explain and then Comply or act compliant as they walk you through the troubleshooting process. Say that “nothing has changed” and they will take your personal information and email you a prepaid postage barcode. Follow the instructions in the email and wait. I did all of this and when they receive the earbuds, they will send you an email confirmation. They send the replacement unit out within a week. You should have a new pair a week from receiving that second email.
i have the same problem after 1 hr right side remain 80% but the left one remain 10%. my firmware 1.42. it's very bad thing i hope sony will solve this problem quickly.

I predicted the issue will happen to everyone because it did happen to me after that botched 1.4.2 update, and I got the same service as Aaron. The good news was the newer hardware had sound improvements IMO.

Is it just my fortunate luck, or has anyone lese noticed the 'Connect to 2 devices simultaneously' is no longer available in the "system' dashboard? Have s/w version 9.2.7 on my iPhone and firmware 1.5.0. This is the main reason for purchasing these earbuds and it now appears to no longer be an option?!?

I want to love these. They're fantastic when they decide to function properly. Hell, I'm on my 3rd Sony earbud with a dumptruck of problems, but a 4th one is highly unlikely to happen, I'm done feeling like a product tester and I really want back all the hours of my life that troubleshooting took. I'll try to see what they'll do out of warranty, and if a repair isn't reasonably priced I'm going to move back to AliExpress brands, at least it'll be less of my money ending up in a landfill so often, they can't be worse than the Sony's, hell a friend of mine had washed and dried theirs and they're still kicking 3 years down the line. Sony should get its act together. 😒
