    Id honestly be happy with no auto attacks, after playing WoW for 14 years id be happy to see a game where all the damage that you do is actually done by the player(not just auto), it connects you to the character more

    Also id be very keen to join the alpha/beta tests but $578 Aud(Australian) is just WAY above my budget, i have experience in many beta's from different WoW patches, to world of tanks beta, Baldur's Gate 3 beta, SWTOR beta. Beta's are something i very much enjoy because hunting bugs and glitches and getting them fixed is a true joy for me. So if there is ever a more affordable way to get in id love that

    Hearing Stephen talk in the studio update about the state of the industry really goes to show how genuine of a dude he is. The love and care he puts into the company and his employees is really going to reflect in the game itself. These updates are always inspiring as a solo game dev. Y'all are doing great!

    Want an mmo with a big player base and lot of staying power? It’s gonna take 10 years. Maybe when AI makes all our games it’ll be faster but this is the going rate.

    So impressed with the work you have all done. I have gone back to 1999 EQ because I want the challenge instead of having all the comforts of modern MMOs. I found the same thing in Embers Adrift. The challenge encourages grouping because the world is Dangerous. I hope Ashes of Creation has that challenge the father out from nodes people go.

    I said this 10000000 times, but I can't wait. Those skills!! it all looks so much better. It is amazing to see this. Even from that alpha one to now is like woooooooooooooow!! You guys have to let us know with enough time to ask for PTO in 2024. The last thing I want is to work during alpha 2 :p. By the way, about the studio update. Remember that this nurse is still studying computer science because you did not need a nurse. Save me a SPOT!! I am 2 semesters in :p

    Well I think it’s fine time I give myself the Christmas gift of an alpha two key. I have been following Ashes from a distance since the KS and holy moly has this game come a very long way. The intrepid team have a real gem in the making and I am very excited to see what awaits us when the game goes live. It will also give me a reason to get a new pic built.

    If you have someone blocking all the time there are ways around it. For magic characters you can have a spell that curves around the block. There are different ways for a melee player depending on what type of weapons they use. If they use some sort of weapons with a hook like a hatchet you can move their shield or weapon while attacking with another weapon. If you have a sword and shield you could do a scorpion strike. It basically a block with the shield while you bring your sword up and over your shield like a scorpion tail. You could use a Trident to go up and over the opponent's shield to get them. You can let Archers do a trick shot and let their arrows bounce off objects to hit your opponent.

    I've been supporting you for almost 3 years by being registered on the site and buying mounts. But I have to admit that it's good, it's beautiful but it's long. I just hope our wait will be rewarded. And above all, there is a lot to do to make the game more balanced and, above all, accessible. If only we could talk directly with a developer...

    Im optimistic but still cautious with so many mmos that have come and gone but this game has promise and a lot of it theres gonna be some mistakes etc. but Im hoping this team notices them and bugs as quickly as possible and Im looking forward to adventuring in this world

    As a tank player, will there be multiple tanking styles? We always end up getting stuck with a Sword & Shield. I'd love to see options for Dual Wield & Two-Handed Tanking, even if some builds might cater to a higher skill cap.

    32:00 I think it's odd that no one cares about the fire still burning, maybe the npc puts it out now that they aren't under attack or if you we're carrying a bucket of water, water or ice spell. Maybe a river nearby to go get some water. I like the idea that you can help the npc back on their feet and the road! Offer materials to get the cart back up and running, etc.

    I thought the stream was a really good showcase of what we can expect as an adventurer being tasked with an open world event. I know that the presentation doesn't indicate what the final reward quantities will be for completing the event or even the final state of the event system, but id love to know if the reward table only includes raw material or if it could be weapons or armor, or if the mobs that you may encounter from the event can drop items. Also, have you guys thought of making that intermission before the final boss of the event skippable if enough people vote to skip it like (3/4 majority vote)?

    I was an alpha tester of Dauntless way before it was released. It was such a wild ride, looking it grow from this barren bones game with lots of bugs and unfinished monsters, to a game that is actually now quite decent. I still remember falling through the ground at certain spots, invisible gatherables, monsters where the model would get deformed at times, sometimes the head of the monsters would twist 360 degrees, UI that felt like it would fall apart at any misclick, enemy HP would sometimes be next to zero, while other times could be overinflated, items got randomly deleted, loopholes made the economy broken, visual bugs that would make any*thing* get epilepsy, beam attacks hitting through walls, enemies with unfinished animations (one was released on purpose as a little treat for the alpha players before it was finished), a guild who's main color was pink and got the final boss of the alpha colored pink for a while because they were so good at the time, queues you could get disconnected from... It was a wild ride. A ride I'll happily join again. Of course, the alpha times does change your view of the game, I still feel like Dauntless is a barely held together broken mess. But that's because I actually spent time with the alpha, and got to see how *weird* games really are. Games work because we believe they work, while in actuality they barely work at all when it comes down to it. We have just gotten good at making sure the cardboard facades that games are made of have some extra security mechanisms to fall back on, otherwise games could be broken way too easily. And as I'm learning to program in OpenGL now, it is becoming even more clear to me just how flimsy games really are. They really are just a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors.

    Yeah, and badly. We'll wipe out an event, 10 minutes later you walk by; exact same event. If anything it signalled to me that nothing I do made any difference. It achieved the opposite of what this team is trying to do.

    Long time lurker, first time commenter. I am signed on to alpha and beta test. I am an old-school MMO gamer (UO, EQ, WoW from the start, etc . . .). I am so excited that you look to be trying to bring back the great elements from those games- the challenge, the possibility of individual prestige, and the good kind of messiness. 1. Please look at Warhammer Online for how tanks can be useful in PvP. This will be a PvP heavy game and I like playing a tank. In that game, tanks could CC (punt!) players and they could take a lot of damage for allied DPS through linking with them. It made tanks actually valuable to group PvP. 2. Please consider saving the boat stuff for a DLC. You guys have so much to focus on- let's pace it out for a while. Let us get the land stuff established and then move on from there. I just fear it will take too long to implement and test all that. 3. Maybe an answer to this exists, but I really think all towns need re-elections every six months or so. Six months can be an eternity in a game like this. 4. End game item progression REALLY matters. I hope your plan for that involves a mix of raids, crafting, and PvP. Make us do ALL the content and soak it up to grow in power. And related to that, as many have said, don't push cosmetics so much that it takes the status out of acquiring the really hard-to-get gear.

    Alpha 2 absolutely 100% shouldn't be persistent. No reason to remove the opportunity of doing a variety of tests a persistent environment wouldn't allow.

    i remember seeing a video of shroud playing a really old version of ashes of creation it was like a battle royal. and you could jump really high. i loved it

    I think you may have missed the question about if people show up and then ditch. What is going to be in place for someone that shows up and does nothing just so that the raid will fail? What if you have a guild that shows up to jack the numbers then increase the enemy, then when the bad guys show up run away or just run around doing nothing. Is there anything in place to stop things like that. Or for people to show up then go afk but claim a reward. Or even 2 hits and get some gold then hide and do nothing.

    The Bard music instrument should be a weapon that allows them to play magic songs that cast spells at your enemies or be used in melee like a guitar could also be an axe for a guitar smash or shoot magic.

    In an earlier video you guys mentioned world bosses (I don't remember which video). I am curious to know what kind of world bosses you plan implementing. Will they all be contested or will they be ones where everyone will need to work together to bring it down, or perhaps a mix of the two? I look forward to playing the game. Thanks.

    There is a world boss cyclops vid that they posted. RN, it looks like world bosses could feasibly be zerg fests. It is very unclear atm whether loot table is shared between different groups attacking same boss.

    Just a thought: use map knowledge and data as a guild resource. The sum total of all map knowledge of the members of a guild is shared among other members of that guild. Leaving the guild strips that player’s access to that information back down to only their personal knowledge of the map. Incentivizes newer players to join guilds and get help/interact with the community while they are still learning, but doesn’t punish experienced players who likely will later obtain a lot of that map knowledge over time. Counter argument: Don’t allow map sharing for players under a certain level. Gradual accumulation of map data allows the player to slowly become acquainted with a complicated system that is notorious for causing new players to quit when it is inevitably too expansive. BDO tries to fix this problem in a similar way, but the game encourages new players to grow too quickly for them to benefit from that system to matter at all. Would be interesting to see how a similar system holds up in a game with a more controlled level of progression.

    Will there be natural resources like a heavenly flame from battle through the heavens or some sort of potions that upgrade your stats and elements resistance or damage permanently?

    If there are no fast travels will there be things like mounts, spells, gagets, that make you go faster. Like flying pirates ship or teleport gates that lead to other cities or nations.

    I feel like the magic users could cast spells to detect items and any things that have magic. I feel like there also needs a spell to unlock chests and magic locks. Can you pick up chests and take them with you and pay rouges or other people to unlock it.

    Really wish they would incorporate Range-based VOIP. ESO has it on Console, it is quite honestly, pretty awesome. Especially if improved upon and made better. Imagine hearing conversations of people that grows louder as you get closer to their characters, and you can talk to people while walking by... etc. and as you get further away it gets quieter until it is inaudible.

    The event system in this game resembles Guild Wars 2's open-world dynamic events, and the overall aesthetics and gameplay are reminiscent of Dark Age of Camelot.

    A further point to player positions of influence, as you confirmed these are more then just Mayor. Along with benefits and powers they must come with responsibilities too surely, I like how the mayor system has this integrally.

    hope this gets pulled as a youtube comment highlight cause its a serious question for Steven.. "considering all the advancements in AI, couldn't you add more autonomy to NPCs making the ashes experience more immersive and dynamic?" with individual player reputation being a big part of the game dynamic. having NPCs with a level of autonomy speaking between one another can lead to bards singing tales of players deeds in taverns furthering player reputations. i know steven has invested a lot in the work the writers are doing but i think it would do more for the game to take a step back from writing scripts for each individual NPC and have them operate on their own individual wants and needs based on their roles and survivability in the game + the overall game lore hard coded into there thought processes. this could create a lot more dynamic quests to immerge that the devs couldn't foresee and would break the feel of immersion for players. just my food for thought. i dont want to see this game fail because steven is dead set on reliving an older game.

    I dont want to be the mood killer. But Steven, you really need to take care of that chronic cough. Be it throat or lungs it can develop into cancer if left untreated. Even something as minor as acid reflux could be the cause of this but can turn into something serious

    This game looks like it has soooo much potential to be the next game people play for the next 10 plus years! Great job ladies and gents! I appreciate the thought process and the game is coming along nicely ! Especially like how it seems you guys are not going the new super insane fast pace type route of gameplay and also that everything even a small upgrade in gear or a resource gained off a event can get you excited! In my opinion games like classic world of Warcraft were so good because nothing earned came instantly and you had to genuinely be involved and exploring and learning your class to get the smallest upgrades that in reality felt so good to get! There is always something new to learn around every corner and every role feels like they are essential to pass the content... and you guys are going way bigger than good ole classic wow. So cool to see, I hope it continues down the harder side of things but also rewarding and exciting and thrilling!

    Just a question. Will there be underground Nodes? Like with dwarves having underground strongholds and high mining nodes etc.

    i dont remember which stream but im like 90% sure steven said there would NOT be underground nodes but point of interest places like strongholds for people to attack/defend. I believe he mentioned it when they did the map/world expansion update. (When they decided to make the land mass bigger)

    The faster you tell us when it will be, the easier it will be for us to get time off. I wasn't able to really get far into Alpha One because my week off was towards the end of it, and that was pure dumb luck. It's the difference between two - five hours in the very early morning, or fifteen hours a day for at least a week in prime time.

    I think a stagger meter would be the best option, to allow a player a way to have the choose to disengage from a fight to "reset". Healers would also be key in preventing a player to become staggered. I.E tank rushing/ blitzing in for a boss or in PvP .this would give tanks another resource to watch besides heath and healers as well preventing mindless tank and spanks. Rogues and other agility base classes would have the ability to use a skill of some kind to evade incoming damage for a short time to reposition them self. Think tank runs in a groups starts getting pounded on. healer cases "true stance" non healing spell preventing tank from becoming staggered. rogue jump in does burst DPS and resets. Ranged doing sustained DPS. in a previous Dev stream about the Archer this kid of disengage was showcased with jumping over the enemy. and mages with blink. It been awhile sense i Have played BDO but I do remember picking my battles and dancing around players in pvp to not get "caught out" making it more engaging experience and would argue more skill based.

    He has addressed that before, says that he is fine and he doesn't have a health condition or anything but that the live streams and such really stress his throat where he has to talk a lot more than he normally does so I guess it seems like we always see him talking and coughing a lot because we only really see him during the livestream

    Have you considered a Group Party Buff. maybe the more hostiles the group kills the more a meter grows and every so often you are given a small reward or something. or your loot table changes as the group gets more "exp" together. Also maybe the ability to form permanent groups that when played fully together get these increased buffs. It could also be that a party has a 1 hour window to get to a payout cap, then it gets paid out a prize or reward.

    Probably impossible to estimate properly and even if you could make a useful estimate, it would be dangerous to publish it. There is a reason why Tom Cargill said: “The first 90 percent of the code accounts for the first 90 percent of the development time. The remaining 10 percent of the code accounts for the other 90 percent of the development time.”

    I don't think this is really quantifiable outside of alpha 2 being "the absolute bare essentials of the game are finished" we'll still be missing a lot of content, a LOT. But we'll have the bones and some muscle.

    That can't be quantified because any number of things can make the development take longer. Ashes of Creation is a VERY player-influenced game, meaning a lot of it is based on how players interact and exploit what they have available, from economy to corruption to sieges to node management. It may require an extremely extensive (open) beta to feel out what works and what doesn't, what's exploitable and what's solid, what's overpowered and what's no fun to play, etc. And we barely even seen any biomes outside of the riverlands and desert, and extremely little from non-human races, so it's safe to say we got a very long time before we're "close" to done.

    Surely you can estimate. For example: Are all the 3D models ready? Yes. Okay that's a tick mark. Is the story/quests ready? Yes, another tick mark. Is the terrain done? Yes, another tick mark. Are the game play mechanics made. Yes, another tick mark. Has the game been balanced? No. Have the bugs been found/fixed? No. Have the behind the scenes business/legal things been complete? Yes. Another tick. So that's... 5/7 of the way done. That's around 70% done. Say 70% took 7 years. Then we might be looking at 3 more years. I'm not asking for precise and accurate percent. Just a ball park estimate of how far is the game in production.

    I feel like your magic user should be able to cast spells from any weapon they choose and also there body. I also feel like you could use any melee skills for any weapon. Almost all melee use the same method of attacking only the way you grip the weapon change and how close your opponent is. You can also add martial arts which can improve and strengthen your attacks. I know that tai chi can be used with dual weapons or some one using a sword and shield.

    looks nice,but combat should not be based around auto attacks.they should be a filler,a dps los and combat should be based around meaningfull spells that combine with each other.all i saw were some random spells occasionally and constant wanding

    Might be too early for this question but figured I'd ask anyways. What is y'alls overall philosophy towards leveling? As in, is it just a means to get to the end game or would you prefer the leveling experience to be an epic adventure unto itself? World of Warcraft for example has so much dev time put into leveling quests but you're average new player doesn't get to experience 90% of it because of how stream lined they've made the process to get players to end game faster for things such as raiding. Sure, you can level alts in weeks instead of months now but it made the game feel like less of an adventure and more like a chore. Other than that, love watching these videos, hope I can get into Alpha 2!

    Two months ago they had a show case of the cleric class and a lot of healing spells. I believe that the tank class is not ready yet for a class show case but will be before A2.

    Love what i'm seeing so far and i'll admit combat isn't looking as bad as i thought it would be, however I do think there needs to be more telegraphing with the attacks and having more attacks be avoidable this will not only make attacks look impactful but it makes combat less rng and more interactable which is important to stop the combat and grinding as a whole from being boring while making the combat feel better and much more skill based essentially i propose a system where the tab target aims for you but the opponent can still avid your skill shots this will make implementing active dodging and blocking a lot easier which allows the game to appeal to a wider audience

    I got RTX 40 series just to play AoC. Amazing game! My question is, how do you guys are going to compensate for the potential in-game auction house inflation due to constant change of seasons and different materials which come with them? Since the search and demand for some materials will change with the seasons. Thank you. Can't wait for the game to release. 💕

    it depends on what kind of package you got. They were doing different processes when the kickstarter happened and when they decided to sell Alpha 1. Meaning... you dont inherently get access to alpha 2 just because you had access to alpha 1. You had to purchase a package that was selling Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 together.

    I have wondered that myself. I don't know everything about graphics, but I suspect that MMOs in general will not do well with cloud graphics.
