    You nailed ranged combat for me. I always play as a ranged character but usually end up switching to caster because ranged fighting doesn't feel dynamic. I've always felt like a turret just standing there. The ability to move while fighting the dynamic leap into the air. There's so much more mobility. I'm so impressed every month and so excited for alpha 2

    Indeed i played hunter in vanilla wow and tbc i loved the ability to kite just how the class played. Happy too see this stream

    @@AshesofCreation I personally dislike when casters and rangers can cast and shoot while moving. Why? Because it goes along with a huge damage nerf. In Guild Wars 2 it feels like you are inflicting the damage of a melee fighter just on higher range.. i personally like to play as a powerful ranger/caster. Additionally its pretty unrealistic to shoot a bow while running. Yea, its about fantasy and all. But i prefered the more static rangers from Dark Age of Camelot for example. I hope that some abillities need momentum. For example a highly precise crit shot.

    Hi guys, the game is amazing. I'm passing by to ask for something, turn on the subtitles, please. My English is still bad and I still need subtitles (in English) to be able to follow along perfectly. I'm a fan from Brazil and I'm learning English so I don't miss any of the immersion.     Just a little help for your english, "fan of" indicates you are a fan of something, "fan from" indicates a location. So if I'm understanding you correctly, you meant to say, "I'm a fan from Brazil". Other than that your english was great.

    I haven't really been following development and this is the first vid I've seen in awhile, all I can say is damnnnn. The world/environment looks beautiful, combat was extremely smooth, skills appear satisfying and armor/weapon design was awesome. After seeing this I'm really looking forward to being able to play, glad I backed the game way back. This is the only MMO I'm actually looking forward to getting into, can't wait for more updates - keep up the great work!

    I like what I've seen so far. The short bow demo was nice. The only thing I would like to see is that when you do a fully charged "Snipe", that there is some knock back on the enemy when using the longbow. That will help maintain distance and control. It'll give a another difference between the two weapon types.

    Yeah, that's fine with me though, because those are the games I grew up playing and it's just my opinion. It's not for everyone, I get you. No matter what they do, they can't please everyone, and trying to will just waste time.

    Looks epic! I am usually not a bow guy but this looked damn satisfying. Loved the sound and I can't wait to learn more about how different weapons are expected to behave.

    At 1:05:57, I was inspired. I think it would be *really* cool to be able to right-click on another character and see (with their permission maybe?) what they look like in the character creator. Not in the world, but with a black background so you could *really* get all the delicious details. So you could rotate them, check out their gear, zoom into their face and hair, and see how they customized their character. I would love to be able to show my friends (in detail) what my character looks like, and see all the hard work that went into theirs. Hopefully something like this can be implemented. Keep on rocking Intrepid, I can't wait for this game to come out, let's go!!

    WoW had the inspect feature, I don't s see why this would be impossible, and I agree it's a good idea, I used to spend a lot of time just eyeing other people's gear in the first expansions.

    I love that the actions of the bow, even the special abilities, aren't overly-flashy as they've become in many games. I like when things are immersive in this way instead of a ton of energy spheres and giant waves of glowing colors that obscure everything beneath a bunch of gawdy crap.

    The environment looks stunning. The charactrer models look great and movement is so fluid and i have to admit watching his character dodging enemies showing agility really makes me want to play this class when the game is released. I love the constant dedication from the team at intrepid i honestly feel they wont let us down.

    This might be the first game I truly deviate from my typical melee class. I’ve always experimented with rangers and mages but a lot of the time they feel detached and turret-like. I LOVE the added mobility of the ranger class and it makes them feel so much more agile, swift and aggressive. Please keep going in this direction!

    Things I liked from what I saw: LOVED the slits in the hood for the ears… it’s such a small detail but it shows a lot about what you’re doing. Simply amazing. I liked the bow sounds and speed and difference between the two bows used. I liked the abilities look ans flavor. LOVED THE COWS Things I didn’t like: It was hard to tell if it was from being “hard locked” or what but it seemed like either Steven is a crack shot and never missed orrrr he couldn’t miss… I’d like more explanation of this because what’s the point of action mode if toy can’t miss? Is it just the movement style mostly? Or can you miss? I didn’t like that it was unclear what the downsides or upsides to action could be? Is it purely (or majorly) flavor? Or is their other differences? Either is fine I just didn’t think it was clear. I think slight arrow trails would be good, it’s slightly unrealistic but it’s helpful visually imo. Final take away: these are small comment and you really seemed to have nailed this! I can’t praise you all enough. Such an impressive showing! Well done to the whole team!

    I’ve always played a mage or a healer but watching this I’m so excited to try a new type of gameplay and I am very tempted to have my elf become a ranger and try this out in alpha 2. This game is living upto my hopes and dreams for a good MMO at last. loving it guys! Thank you so much for the work and awesome progress so far. bTW Steven please can I request that you get a chest scan as you’ve had that cough for such a long time. It’s worrying me a lot.     A super fun idea!!💡 when you're character Is in town and say you have to go afk for idk 15mins or something, maybe have a button that autowalks around town? Like there's a preset path that npcs and 'afk players' that auto walk walk on :) it'll give a huge immersean aspect to towns and it'll get away from basic mmo style players being idle and just staying there. In addition, add fun auto interactions where players will walk around and greet npcs, sit on benches, pet animals, "window shop" at the blacksmith or bakery :))

    I love the combat direction. Now that we have seen both examples of range and melee I am confident you will get the other weapon options right. What I would like to see next personally would be profession system examples. So far just this year you have shown: character creation; in game finished races; combat; dynamic weather; multiple biomes; caravan system update; and more. You all are doing great and honestly I am excited to play when it is ready for alpha 2. I would like to see professions or node system updates next/soon since that is the other half of the game to combat. I personally would prefer only teases to dungeons or landmarks like you have been doing since I want to explore and grow with my server on launch day. Over all keep it up!!

    Loving the fluidity of the movement to attack balance! I've disliked in a lot of MMO's that you have to be stationary to attack even with things like bows & swords etc, so it's awesome to see that this is gonna be different in Ashes. Obviously still adding in some stationary attacks like the snipe shot is cool though to allow a bit of variety in the gameplay. The more I see of this game the more excited I get for it, great work to everyone involved!

    If I am smelling what Steven is stepping in, it sounds like I could be a run and gun dual wand wielding mage or a standard staff caster with long spells requiring me to stand still. I really like the idea of being able to build more mobile and more powerful variants of ranged dps to suit playstyle and content. Very cool!

    Love the differences between long and short bow. Range combat looks great and tactical. I would ask that you reconsider the occasional high pitch whistle whine that happens on some of the shots. A few hundred to a few thousand hours of that will likely have that be a bit grating over time. The biomes continue to be amazing and it is great to see so much progress being made. Thank you for this development series.

    As much as I love the combat system you've come up with to try and solve this seemingly impossible dilemma, I'm not sold on the explanation as to why anyone would use action combat over the tab target. One of the number 1 rules of game design: *When given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of everything.* This is what will happen here unless there is some other benefit/need to use the action combat. The simple truth is tab targeting is SO much more efficient that players will eventually feel "forced" to use it or else play "sub-optimally". Simply shrugging ones shoulders and saying "eh, we'll just let players play how they want to" is setting the combat up for failure and it would be a HUGE bummer what with all the love and amazing work you've put into this game.

    I mained archer in TERA and beaten down BAMs for a very, very long time and did A LOT of PVP. The greats of TERA as an archer was moving while charging a shot, animation cancelling while charging and or moving and arrow piercing/ignoring collisions through lines of ennemies for placement/positioning. There was also mechanics where you had to hover targets for the lock-on to activate and then launch the attack to multi-selected targets. Just a thought; do look into it as it was a very nice action oriented combat for archer without being overly reliant on tab targeting and "turret" kind of gameplay. The fun was that you could play actively and targets, CC and stun/control the field with your crosshair view while moving and dodging at the same time.

    Great improvement love the video! My one critique would be the high pitch arrow would want to make me turn off in game sound. In a short video I could handle it but listening to that for hours would be very annoying.

    I absolutely love the direction this is going! However, some quick feedback, is that I personally don't like how the whole screen blurs when charging the snipe ability. It's a bit jarring... But the sounds and the immediate feedback on the attacks is amazing. Keep it up! I am so excited to jump into this world, but will continue to be patient so that when it does release, it lives up to the hype :)

    Side note, I just rewatched the old 2013 presentation for Everquest Next, and I gotta say the node system sounds a lot like the realization of the "Rallying call" mechanic david was talking about. Was just an interesting comparison.

    As a suggestion you can ad % to apply bleeding on holding basic attack (like arrow can actually stuck in body of victim)

    My favorite ranger rendition was from neverwinter nights online. They had that rooting charge(short duration), disengage, ranged root (longer duration) just felt super smooth to play, very versatile kit. I would love to play something like that again (they nerfed it into the ground)

    Every time I see one of these videos I become instantly excited. Than I frantically search for a release date update for the game. Than I learn that the game is coming out someday, but there is no set date of the game coming out this year, next year, or the year after that. Than I try to forget about the game and move on.

    This would have so much potential on game consoles, I know I'm just a old man with a dream of an actual MMO being on consoles, but it has been an absolute privilege watching the developers of AOC bring this game to life. I'm sure I speak for other console players when saying this; PLEASE TRY TO GET THIS ON CONSOLE 🙏 (Just require everyone to use a mouse and keyboard) People who love MMO's will literally go buy a mouse and keyboard just to play this amazing game on console... Anyways you guys are doing an amazing job. Keep up the amazing work😉

    If the arrows are projectile based, an incentive to use action or free aim combat would be sniping at longer ranges which assumes that tab target will eventually de-lock at a certain distance, so this would be beneficial for castle sieges with archers on the walls or certain puzzles and mechanics require you to hit a button on the wall. perhaps longbows can have further projectile fall off than short bows which would help bring identity and domain to both

    I think having the free aiming of action combat is really good because it allows for ranged damage weaving (referencing the melee weaving that Classic WoW hunters do). The thought of being able to have a hard lock target to focus abilities on while also targeting a second mob at a range is really appealing. I would, however, like to know what range of degrees off centre target locked abilities can be used. My primary thoughts from this video are actually in regards to the tower dungeon and gliding mounts, but I'll have to write that out later.

    I am not a huge ranger fan in previous games/mmos, but the combat looks solid and the sounds of this weapon type are the best i can remember from games i've played. Excellent update.

    Hi! one thing i want to find out about is the questing in the game. I hope that the quests are more complex than kill or gather quests like most mmo's do. I don't know if you have ever played runescape but the way they do the quests in that game are something that i think you guys could take some great inspiration from.. Small fun/silly quests like helping goblins decided what color armor to wear.. to big giant grandmaster quests that involve some major puzzle solving and big boss battles. I hope you guys go down that path rather than the generic collect/kill quests.

    My question is,what can we expect to see as passives in a character's skill tree?Will it be something big - like a chance to apply DoT's/change the type of damage/change the core mechanic of a spell(for example we've had a directional blink but with some passive it'll turn into a shadowstep to the unit that we're targeting) or will the passives simply gives us more HP/CDR/Crit Chance etc.

    What impresses me the most is the minotaur character art. It just looks so believable. Many games look good, but still not really convincing. You seem to hit the mark more often with every update.

    Very impressive, I loved how it looked and how fluid the movments where the textures on the minotaur where amazing and how his shoulder pad reacted to the light, all that was missing was some atmoshereic forest ambiance. My only worry is the the power needed to run this with large groups of people together but I see you are toned down on ability effects which I think is a good decision. I would tone down the sound on the bow slightly as after many hours im sure the high pitched sound would wear on you.

    Are we going to have any room where we can try and test all the classes in end game. Testing the skills and combos at the beginning of the game so we can decided what classes to choose. Thanks!

    I would like to see some arrows with an tip made from various types of crystals which are charged with essence of elementals which can be shoot in air and fragment above the enemy and imbed it with that power to overcome it.

    Can’t wait!! Only critique I have is the sound effects for the actual bow attacks. They sounded a bit flat or stock. That could be because they’re not final? Amazing work here!!

    Also I can't imagine playing short bow for an extended period of time with the repeating "ping ping ping" sounds over and over in the same pattern for hours. It sounds pretty monotonous and I could see that getting super annoying over time

    I always play some variant of Mage/Wizard but looking how good this ranged combat looks I definitely will need a ranger alt. It also gives me a lot of hope for the ranged magic gameplay as well! I really hope they go into more depth about the differences in tab vs action combat. I would also love to know how skill distance will be shown, I don't want to cast a spell/fire an arrow and have it be .01 meter too short and fizzle/miss. Overall I am loving the direction the combat is going, I've tried so many MMOs that fell short and it sours the whole experience. Edit: I love the idea of charging a shot for extra damage, will this be the case for some spells too?

    I would like to know how the dodge system works in the game and what implication it has in combat. I mean... it's only good for dodging AoE abilities? or instead you gain invulnerability frame being able to dodge any attack. Thank you.

    I love that instead of allowing add-ons, you will listen to the community to know what to add as features to change our UI and such. Colors of our abilities and spell effects play a HUGE ROLE in our immersion and roleplay of what we want our character to be. Is there a chance of adding color customization to our abilities icons on our toolbars or even spell effects? (I think of the questline in WoW that allows warlocks to change the color of their flame to green) Thank you!

    🤗 We want to support our community just as they support us! We will allow color customization for UI, but we probably will not allow that for abilities as we'll have some color theory associated with them. You may upgrade abilities and that may change their look and feel though. ;)

    Will there be secret areas that require specific skills (high enough alchemy level, scribe level, being a mage or rogue, etc) to enter? Same for quests (no starting marker and takes more focus and thinking to finish) that lead to being rewarded with unique items? This would be a good reason to go exploring and adventuring and would add to the wonderlust of the game.

    If anyone remembers twelvesky mmorpg - during war we have this group of 5 players who are part of a skill formation(can not be cast unless those 5 have the skill) assigned in defending a certain spot and casting the skill. There are assigned to defend those casters, attackers, spies etc. What I am trying to say is, no matter your level is, your race, your character job, you have a job to do during wars and main wars take hours to finish. Not just throwing magic to opponents, slashing but there are also many strategies available to win wars.

    You can play games like this solo, you are just going to have to network and get help sometimes because some enemies just can't be taken down alone. I want to go back to that, you shouldn't be able to solo open world elite or named mob like you can in WoW. So far you guys are doing the perfect way to have a hybrid combat system. They are hard to get right but when you do it feels amazing. I haven't seen a game that made it feel just right but as long as you develop them to work separately and can use a button to switch between the modes you should be able to marry them together for more of a choice than a fusion. That is the best way for both to work. You guys have said the video what I have said here pretty much, so I am pretty excited to see how combat feels on release. I will of course be watching the progress. I really do like how open your development cycle is it make the wait feel bearable because we can actually see the progress and feel like we are part of the creation and development process. I think that ties players more deeply to the game and is a good practice for long term player retention, and from what I can tell you are thinking long term in almost every aspect of development.

    First, I really liked the sounds effects of shooting arrows,it is really satisfying. Some things I would point out is that, I'd love to see more difficulty on archery like non charged arrows falling more and more depending on distance and fully charged just as it is rn with that precision. Also, I think it would be interesting to explore infused arrows and interactions with them like fire or poison arrows more effective to kill a specific type of monsters to make it more challenging and to think in the future and be prepared for battles. Also, just my opinion, I don't like the big jump and I would replace it by having a grapple to reposicionate and you could even shoot while doing it, cuz gameplay doesn't seem that smooth on the weapon

    Really good combat, but it feels lacking in reactive skills. The abilities you got are clever and that's great! A reactive skill could be a short duration "pose". When holding that pose it mitigates %30 of the next hit you receive. And when you get hit during the pose you counter by shooting an arrow that weakens the enemy significantly for 5 seconds reducing their damage by %60. That move can be used in more than one way too. If you can tell the enemy is going to do a weak move and follow up with a much stronger move, you can use the pose on the weak move to lower it by 30% (which might feel like a waste), but the counter arrow will lower the damage of the strong move by 60%... but that takes knowledge and foresight!

    what makes travel speed or moving speed not feel so bad in mmorpg is that being able to physically do something about the speed that you are moving is a major component to making moving from point A to point B not feel tedious

    This looks incredible. Been keepin an eye on this game for past years and honestly its the first time i’m excited again for an MMO and it might get me back to the genre.. heck i’ll even buy a new gaming rig. Probably going to need to be patient for another year or 2 but that’s alright. Just please make an immersive, good looking, well rounded and decently balanced MMO with lore and cool, unique looking races. Will def. take 2 weeks off work when released just to play the hell out of it

    Hey so you said no to seasons effecting the oceans but what about world boss? like one that freezes an entire sea area or something like that? i like the idea that maybe the players want to keep this boss around for the use of these new land trade routes?

    Will there be the ability to hotkey swap between short bow and long bow in a combat situation? Or would it be hardlock into using one with it's positives and negatives?

    The combat really does look great. On the UI side, I really hope we get the ability to customise it and move it over to underneath the character. Especially the target bar that you've currently got, I'm not keen on having to look away from the action to see the health bars. As a tank another thing I'd love would be the enemy nameplates changing colour based on threat. Using stuff like ElvUI and threatplates really shouldn't be needed anymore tbh.

    Things that I like: - Audio is AMAZING - Visual effects are AMAZING - Combat direction is Perfect with the Action and Tab camera PLEASE don't try do balance them and make action OP - Do not rework the combat again please this is 100% the correct direction - you Won't make everyone happy so don't try to do so - Attack speed from both ranged and melee weapons is looking good - love the difference between weapons Things I'd like to change; - Maybe add more camera effects like shake/blur to make the combat more impactful (make it optional to lower in settings) - Blood effects would be awesome for some mobs... if we can get blood decals on the floor or coming out the mobs - look at how Tera did blood splatter and decals... it's amazing and makes it so much more impactful - Don't allow people to turn off sun/lens flare/weather effect same as foliage so that positioning according to the sun is important - Mobs are dying WAY to fast, decrease that for at least twice of what we saw.... TTK is absolutely Way to fast in the demonstration and now I worry that you won't deliver the 30s to 60s TTK when fighting a player - TTK is extremely important we want a Slower paced combat and not a burst BDO combat - I think every Mob should have some sort of CC in his kit, so you can't just run away from everything on foot or mounted

    It would be good to map weapon charge up time/power & range vs gap closer timing and distance covered (perhaps sacificing one for the other in mobility). If you are going for interruptable channeling on big power skills. I am liking slow hi power vs rapid low power hits, giving the weapons nuance and character. Perhaps a middle range bow as a general weapon and the other two as more specialist ...unless they have variable scope toward each other ?
