Destiny vs. Jordan Peterson: The Difference Between the Left and the Right

Ben and co. analyze what seems kind of like a therapy intake session, with Destiny outlining his drift into more "progressive" waters, while Jordan Peterson warning against what he calls "gigantism."

@2:26 I find the main difference between the Left and Right is that the Left thinks in terms of systems; the Right, in terms of people. The Left asks, "What system is causing the problem?" The Right asks, "Who's causing the problem?" The Left asks, "What system should we use?" The Right asks, "Who should be in charge?" From there, each branch out into their various solutions.

It really boils down to conservatives are realists and believe in adhering to their intuitions. They like social hierachies because it's what they know. They tend to project their outward model of what they think the world should be based on their experiences and intuitions and not soo much through critical thinking. The less educated, less traveled, and the smaller the town they live in the greater chance they are adversarial towards not just government but corporations if they are not employed by one. Educated conservatives may take the view that because there's soo many intricacies in how our society operates, the best concourse is to not tamper with it as it may be to complex to fully grasp and control. Therefore, government is not an efficient method. Liberals on the other hand have greater respect, understanding and dedication towards critical thinking, are more educated and more traveled than average modernday MAGA conservatives. Therefore, they see the world more broadly and understand that their own life anectdotes are not reliable as a prism to view the world through. Liberals from big cities like institutions because through their more broad interactions with society can conceive the need for protections of our civil liberties from entities that have a Monopoly of force who's ability to thrive depends on the satisfaction of the populations they serve.

the right are primitive minded who need to hold onto objective "truths" to feel secure in a knowable realm. they always boil things down to mastery, territory and masculinity, as animals generally do.. primitive ! the left are more sophisticated and open to not being sure of their "place", they are flexible and receptive to new evidence. the left understand that cooperation is better than competition.

Notice Peterson's summary of Destiny's position has very little overlap with what Destiny actually said. "Liberals fear corporations becoming too powerful and conservatives fear governments becoming too powerful." These two positions are far from identical.

Conservatives need to define “big government.” What does that measure? The size of the government as measured by spending? Or is it number if federal employees? Is it how intrusive the laws the government enforced are (for instance anti-abortion laws)? Is it all if the above? They need to define it because they don’t even know. And they continually support legislation that intrudes upon the personal lives of citizens, but think that they’re for small government just because they want to do away with entitlement programs. Edit: I guess Ben covered that.

I’m sorry but this comment section is emblematic of what is wrong with loud leftists. Ideas like socialism or any variant that is leftist (I don’t care for right wing) are meant to serve humanity. But leftists, particularly those who loudly identify as socialists, tend to want people to be subservient to the ideas. That’s why you have people complain how some people are not perfect socialists therefore should not be allowed to be regarded as leftists. If America adopted wholesale Scandinavian system of government, these socialists would still be calling proponents of a Scandinavian like government as not left enough

I don't think Peterson is really wrong here. This is a correct analysis of the left and right that make up the mainstream parties in the US and Canada. It does fall apart when you go far enough to the extremes, but I think that's very forgivable considering they are not really a major focal point of the discussion. But it all sort of depends on how you classify big government. Is having an EPA big government, or is that a basic requirement? If its the former, then the democratic party isn't for big government but just a baseline, functional state.
