Jesse Lee Peterson's Bonkers Interview with Jeet Heer

The crew watches and admires Jeet's patience as Jesse lobs insane talking points at him with breathtaking efficiency, at one point even arguing the slavery wasn't that bad.

Peterson is dead wrong about borders. Borders function as political interventions against the free market imprisoning capital, goods, labour, and production. Abolishing borders - making the movement of capital, goods, labour and production 'frictionless', would double world GDP increasing it by around $ 100,000,000,000,000.00, one hundred trillion dollars according to the work of theoretical economists. In the case of Haiti removing barriers to the movement of labour allows skilled Haitian workers to increase their income by 100X. Freeing the market from the depredations of political intervention whether that intervention is of a democratic, socialist, communist, or libertarian stripe, is the surest way to prosperity for all. Oh and BTW no borders = no states = no wars. What's not to like ?

Please explain how... any law works without borders. How does tax work? How does homosexual marriage work? Literally any law that the world doesn't universally agree upon. Thx in advance

  • @robertcarpenter8077

@@chunksloth Sure. Law, like language, belongs to a class of institutions termed 'emergent', meaning they form not by individual human intention but rather by way of unintentional, dispersed, complex, collective processes. Such processes occur much faster than biological evolution but much slower than individual intentional design. Such law is sometimes termed 'natural' law, law without an author. Political authority can be said to have colonized this natural law, transforming law into a strategy of domination, sometimes termed 'positivist' law. Now think of language. There is no centralized, monopoly political authority producing and enforcing language yet language, the most critical of all institutions, continuously and spontaneously evolves, adapts, forming new words, new phrases, new idioms so on and so on. It is the same with natural law the difference being that natural law functions to prevent and when necessary peacefully resolves disputes. Interestingly you mention homosexual marriage. Now it is precisely under political / positivist law that homosexual relations were criminalized, that the state incarcerated homosexuals for the positivist 'crime' of misgendering themselves. Now of course political law is always contested, always up for grabs, the subjugated always maneuvering to arrogate political power to themselves in order to rework the positivist law deployed against them. And thus today positivist law still criminalizes misgendering but reworked to now flip the scripts.
