Kev's ode to derek is the best written scene of the whole series

The best scene of the most beautifully written, most underrated programme to ever exist.

Words can't describe how beautiful this scene is. "I've got a dad."

Astounding that David Earle had never acted outside of his own short videos before he got the call for Derek. I struggle to think of a monologue that is so laser-focused & exact in capturing the heartbreak and emotion of a moment!

Best monologue ever. Kills me.

I feel you mate the combination of the script the delivery by David and the music is just something else it really is

The brilliance of Ricky Gervais is that he can have you howling with laughter one minute, them in floods of tears the next. Extras, Derek, and Afterlife are all testament to this. The man really is a genius.

" I'm not a failure 'cause I didn't succeed, I'm a failure because I didn't try ". I've never related to a statement more. I've squandered my life.

I can't help to cry my eyes out as soon as the car stops and Derek runs to hug his dad. 😭

Damn that gets me every time, especially that pat on the head.

Damn. I've had three friends die in car accidents (yes, plural). I've had friends never return home from international wars (Afghanistan and similar). I've had friends pass away from terminal cancer.... but God almighty ....2:05.... it makes me cry more than all of these other times. I swear it's the music! Gervais just knows what to do.

I’m so sorry for your loses my friend. I’m not religious but I wish you healing and sunshine and good bright moments. You are a very strong person and I hope you realise that. Thank you for sharing what you did. I wish you the best from 🇮🇪 and I hope that the families of the people who don’t return from fighting those wars know that it isn’t just Americans or British people who respect and appreciate their service. Really is a beautiful scene, remember we only get 1 mother and father. If you can find it in you to forgive just do it and give them a big cuddle and kiss. Try anyway.
