While Tony is no longer quite so aggressively grouchy about life, he continues to struggle to fill the void left behind by his late wife.

I lost my sweet wife, Pam, 3 years ago. We were best friends since high school, married at 21, raised 2 kids, and lived from coast to coast. Like Tony, aka Ricky Gervais, I'm still working and not close to retirement. Certainly not what I had planned at this stage in life. This show was spot on in depicting the life of a widower. I've watched the series twice now and also watched the show clips. Yes, they make me cry, but in a strange way, I find healing powers in the tears. Just as he said in the series... I can't wait until it's my time to go. However, I do believe in heaven, and even if we don't know each other there, I welcome the days of joy and no more sadness.

This show is amazing. I loved how Tony loved his wife so much even after losing her. To love someone so much that living without them cause they've passed hurts so much that you question is life worth living has to be true love. I love how the people around Tony feel sympathetic towards him and try their best to help or just simply talk to him and treat him like a human being.

I love the way the videos from Lisa talk about what a good decent kind funny person Tony is (was when she was with him) and you compare that to the cynical angry person he became after she died. Tony himself sees the contrast. The way he watches those videos is like a starving man looking at a feast but not being able to reach it. It's the most brilliant piece of writing I think I've ever witnessed. 💔

My husband died 10 months ago and, as others have said, this show is so honest, so true. My mom died this week and Im beyond being able to look at life with any sort of warmth or hope. Right now Im finding it hard to care about anything. I’ve never been a nihilist, but my losses have led me to understand it intimately. I think the only thing tethering me here is my grief. I dislike everyone and everything; I just want to stay home alone with my grief and memories and let the world burn down.

The final episode as he is walking through the fair with Brandy is an absolute emotional masterpiece. The way he looks for the picture and salutes was a memorable piece of acting. Sometimes there are no words, life is unfair and you have seen that, you have every right to feel anger, feel it, cry, punch a wall, dont hurt yourself, but hang in there and life can bring you hope, maybe when you feel your lowest. Your wife would want you happy, and finding that will make her happy. Her soul is alive and when its time you'll join her, but not till you've lived your life. Wish you peace and hope you get to where you need to be. 🙌👍

I lost my Dad in 2020. I’m sure the date can explain exactly why but it was a complicated case. I haven’t grieved, I locked everyone out, I’m the youngest child and don’t have a partner or anyone to have helped me through it like my Sisters did. I had to arrange his funeral, sort his bills and more importantly help my Mum. This show broke me; it opened up so many feelings and emotions and I got help. Right on time…because I was about to give up on life. So everyone is right, I hope Ricky does know how much this show has helped people.

For months I never have found anything on Netflix to watch. I’m so glad that l kept the subscription, as last night on Halloween, I found season 3 of AfterLife. Best thing I have seen in years! 🍁🕯🍁🧡🧡

This life in other countries, speaking different languages, living different lives and making us feel that we are far from each other, reminds us how similar our feelings and sentences are with a disease. I have a 7-year-old daughter who is fighting leukemia and this program means a lot to me. People grow with their experiences, our children mature with this disease. This disease, which takes away our loved ones, will surely end one day with the work of valuable scientists.

One of the reasons I often come back to After Life clips on here is that I know I'll see others in the comments, others like me who've lost their wife, their husband, their soulmate...and it helps me to feel not quite so alone. It's been 18 years now, I've never really recovered, not properly, I'm a pale shadow of who I used to be. I'm OK for the most part, not good or bad, but OK, I can co-exist with her absence but how I miss her! She'd never have believed that I'd still miss her like I do. I dream of her constantly, so vividly, and sometimes the dreams really sting. I don't want them to stop though, that's the her that I still get to spend time with. I'm still "only" 54, there may be long way to go yet, I don't know. As to the show After Life, it's not easy to watch but there is a catharsis in it, how Ricky Gervais manages to capture the reality of this life so accurately is truly astounding! To all of you out there, all you others like me, my love and best wishes to you all.

I’m going through my own personal vendetta against my life. My body won’t heal itself anymore because of bad decisions that I made long ago. I wake up every day wondering why I’m still alive. This helps me more than anything
