At first, I thought Russell Crowe was shafted, and they didn’t give it to him because he was difficult in Hollywood, and, he had already won. But, the more I look at the two roles together, Denzel was so evil. So good. He deserved it.

It’s unfair that Russell Crowe didn’t win. Would’ve been happy either way if Denzel or Crowe won. But he lost the Oscar all because he got arrested for being in a bar fight. What does that have to do with his performance?

Tom Wilkinson was the most underappreciated. He had the least showy role in the category and it was a gripping understated performance that didn't require portraying mental illness or a hotshot ego, just the rawness of dealing with grief and seeking retribution.

Easy to say this now. At that time, Denzel had NEVER played a role of villain and it blew everyone away because he kilt it. While the category that year was def loaded, there was no one beating Denzel. Sean’s iconic performance nor Russell‘s endowing performance nor Tom Wilkinson’s enduring performance or even Will Smith’s captivating performance as the legendary Ali was touching Denzel’s performance of a rogue cop. The academy is well known for giving best actor to those acting in in lower budget, less flashy with low ego movies. That year, just as with Gladiator, the academy chose the best actor that just happened to be in a big budget, flashy movie and was well deserved as Denzel was never known to play the bad guy. When you transform a role to where it’s totally opposite of you and shocks everyone, you normally win the Oscar big budget or not, flashy or not, big ego or not. Jus ask almost any actor who’s played the psychotic role of the Joker and have also won Oscars.

In the bedroom is so under appreciated man. I’m not entirely sure how big or loved it was in its day, but definitely feels under appreciated now, seldom hear anyone talk about it, though other movies from that year are still in the discussion today. Very moving American drama.

He sadly passed away yesterday. Never gave a bad performance, and this was probably his best. You're absolutely right, an extremely difficult role he made look so easy. He should have won that year! RIP Tom! 🙏
