Delusional DM Thinks She Should DROP Her Friends For HIM - RPG Horror Stories

Ойын-сауық

It's good to back home with this show! I'm trying to get back on my feet after the absolute insanity of my trip. Things are sloooowly getting back to normal. Emphasis on slowly. But hey! I'm making progress. Hope you guys enjoy the video. Got an exciting podcast coming up. Look out for it.
RPG Horror Stories is a series where I read through stories from Reddit and my own email while giving advice on how to avoid the issues that lead to such stories in the first place.

The description for the "subtle" death-god guy reminded me of a player I had one time during a medieval setting... *she comes through the door* "Oh hey, it's the witch" "I'm not obviously a witch! My class is not visible ingame!" "Describe your character then." "Okay, red hair, black cat on my shoulder, carries a broom....." She was serious at first, but quickly noticed what we meant :D

Oh! The story about edgy kid reminded me! I actually have an oc who is a priestess of a death god (technically two gods, one of death and one of time.) She's not evil, nor are the gods she worships! They teach living life to the fullest and not fearing death (seeing it as natural and the end to suffering and struggle, a comfort.) part of her temple duties include acting as a hospice nurse/death doula (basically caring for the dying and giving them comfort and even joy in their last days and helping them move peacefully on) She might be an interesting idea for a Cleric 🤔

Worst Friends Story. Some times you just gotta warn the jerks when they are crossing that line. In the immortal words of Bugs Bunny, "Because IF you go there I WILL go there and IF I go there I WILL be so there YOU will wish we were BACK HERE!" Never hesitate to stand up for yourself when it won't get you killed. And sometimes it is best to just walk away and never look back. Remember you are not the one who set that bridge on fire. Now trust me, I was in the military, I understand ribbing others. It is a common past time for current and vets. Even with complete strangers. But if they are really your friends they don't actually want to hurt your feelings. But you got to say something or they may not realize it. Even I have been socially ignorant to the point of making bricks look like geniuses. Some times they need a wake up call. And if they really are your friends that will be enough.

Definitely understandable. Though I usually find myself in a reverse situation where my character gets called a womanizer or predator for being one of or the only male in the group (something something dudes playing girls). And it gets really grating when they keep implying my character is thirsting for theirs when the rare times I'm not playing an ace character or a character who is straight up not interested, my characters usually have a love interest NPC in their backstory because I don't do player romance So yeah, people should just let their fellow players play what they want and have fun = =

I think having a nuke present in a form is an interesting aspect in a fantasy world. I have written a place where a magic nuke exploded by accident and now the residents have to live in tunnels to avoid mutants and prevent from getting displaced in space and time by accident.

The event known as The Mourning in the Eberron setting could be read as a magical nuke. Like many things in Eberron, it's deliberately left vague so the DM can decide for themselves. Mutated creatures and temporal and spacial anomolies are of least concern to a party brave or foolish enough to tackle the Mournland.

18:11 I think a good idea for this unusual (yet not surprising) situation, Is eventually have this kid meet his God of death. Only to discover that the cult that he’s a part of is kind of a radical version of the original. Because the God of death is actually a pretty chill guy. He’s not the dark brooding, “bring death to all things” God of death. He’s the, “ death is the ultimate fairness” Kind of god of death. Why hunt for and spread death when it’s just a natural part of life. And character that could be an interesting crisis of faith, kind of thing.

Have a session zero to discuss everyone's comfort level with the content. 3.) Speak up when someone crosses a line- whether it's directed at you or not. 4.) It's a game not a job, it's supposed to be fun for everyone- including the DM. and, of course, 5.) No DND is better than bad DND One day, maybe, the halls of DND horror stories will be empty but then what would we watch?

I once had a friend who similarly tried to keep me to himself. He convinced me to run two 1 on 1 campaign for years, long after inspiration had run dry. 😭 In fairness, one of my most memorable RP moments happened during the d20 Modern 1 on 1 campaign. Was a toxic dynamic, though, and went on for far too long. Also, it's so frustrating how the table in the last story were *so slow* to realize OP's character's gender. O_O Just assuming a character matches the player's (presenting) gender is such a n00b faux pas. This story hurt! Table from the Nine Hells!

I love these stories despite never really having played DnD. I mean... I wanted to join a group of family friends who played with my parents but... He was a terrible DM. First he didn't let me play the race I wanted (I wanted to be a half elf he made me a halfling) then when I asked to sit in on a game for a session or two to get the vibe and become familiar with HOW TO PLAY (and maybe we could play it off as my character following at a distance to see if she could trust them)...he said no and threw me in the story without teaching me the basics and proceeded to get annoyed that I didn't know what was going on (I am talking about not even knowing which dice to use for what). I hated it and never went back.... Until a homebrew game was starting up and I thought maybe it would be better to start from the beginning everyone else... Yeah no, I think we were just incompatible with each other's style.... Haven't played DnD ever since....

The family game story is kinda why I avoid BG3 multiplayer unless I'm playing with my girlfriend since we're usually on the same page on what kind of run we wanna do while we're in character creation. My other experiences with more than one other player have been a complete shitshow, like one I got invited to join while still ongoing in act 1 where everyone was going in different directions, the Durge kept killing NPCs some of the others wanted to talk to and the Circle of Moon Druid who was allergic to wild shape (I kid you not, they wild shaped once within the span of 4 hours) threw a fit over getting turned down by Astarion in the camp party At least my cleric had his gay moment with my homeboy Wyll, but suffice it to say, that save never picked up again and I sure as hell wasn't in any hurry 🤣

Ranger is my main class and I quite enjoy it. But it’s not for everyone so there is that. Weirdly, my current favorite of my characters I am still actively playing is one of my samurai fighters (I have more than one but for different tables). It’s my linguistics scholar samurai fighter. They are really fun to play. But I think that is more to do with having a super compatible table and dm to play with as well as a campaign story I’m very invested with, adding the fact that I made a insanely compatible character for said campaign and party. It just all…clicked. Lol it’s a great feeling. Top favorite character of mine I ever made is still my first character which is a gloomstalker ranger drow with a dip into scout rogue. First ever dnd character and first ever campaign I ever played start to finish. Definitely checked that off my dnd bucket list.

I don’t know if “constructive criticism” is invited - if so, I personally find it jarring when memes and comments are interjected into the middle of sentences/paragraphs of someone else’s story. I find it disrupts the flow and eventually makes me click away because I’m trying to follow the story, and the tangents (“Destiny withdrawals” or whatever, for example) totally take me out of it when they happen in the middle of the sentence. Most story-reading channels seem to wait until the end of the sentence if not of the paragraph or even the broader section of the story before interjecting (unless it’s something super egregious in the story, e.g. grapey behavior by a problem player, in which case I think a narratorial “oh, god, I don’t wanna read that” is warranted). So that’s how I prefer it because it gives me as a listener a “structure” for when an interjection to the story may occur, if at all. However, perhaps that’s something your viewers like about your channel - that you do this differently from other channels. If that’s the case, more power to them and to you and I’m not trying to take away something that makes you stand out from other channels if your viewers like it. I also understand that the other extreme is just robotically, monotonously reading the story while adding nothing original or idiosyncratic, which I would say isn’t necessarily better - but I definitely think there’s a lot of middle ground between the two in which you can carve out your own space. I just figured I’d write this to say that I, personally, find it makes the videos a lot more difficult to consume, and 1) I’m pretty confident I’m not the only one and 2) I’d definitely be a regular viewer otherwise - that’s really the one big obstacle for me in terms of getting into the content.

@@CrispysTavern Fair enough; I did feel like I tried to be pretty clear that it wasn’t the skits or commentary that were an issue for me (those I think are both positives) rather it is the timing of them. It was a long way of saying “I’d personally prefer if the commentary and memes and skits didn’t jumpscare me in the middle of reading a sentence”. Also there’s not really any leaving to be done as that was more me deciding “whether I stayed to begin with”. Anyway, fair enough, and all the best.

  • @blazaybla22

    @blazaybla22

    4 ай бұрын

Actually, I reread my comment and I could see how if one didn’t read it closely past the beginning then it might have seemed like I was criticizing the interjections in general. So just to reiterate, I think the commentary on stories is welcome and even if the skits aren’t my personal cup of tea I think they add something unique to your videos and set your channel apart from others in a positive way. It’s the timing of them - in the middle of paragraphs and sentences, as opposed to after one is finished - that I personally find disruptive. But I do stand by that.
