Dancing on the precipice Axis 1401 Artpro 35 skinny

Okay! jumped back on the 8th foot Axis board! I kept the same set up as the previous video the Axis 1401 artpro 35 skinny silly short fuse advanced plus and the 75 cm high modulus mast.
I feel like this dancing on the precipice of stall is going to be an incredibly powerful tool for Downwinding. That combined with such a low friction setup seems to be allowing me to save more energy. What you can do with that energy who knows! it’s up to you! but having it in the tank is incredibly valuable.
I was having such a breakthrough experience with this Foil setup that I thought instead of making changes to the Foil, why don’t I just change out the boards. Here I jump back on the eight-foot Axis Down Winder board to reacquaint myself with the planning hull. It was such a familiar feel it was instantly comfortable… My red rocket.
For a V1 Board Axis has done a great job. These are excellent boards and could easily have a place in anybody’s quiver, they are great all-rounders. I’ve had so much progress over the last year thanks to these boards.
So back to the riding using the stall method. I had heard people saying when I was hunting for downwinding information that, it’s important to be able to ride slowly. I’ve even promoted it myself talking about how it’s important to understand the full range of your system from top end to bottom end. But I never spent time actually trying to ride near that bottom end! I spent time discovering where that bottom was, so that I wouldn’t reach it! and I could avoid it! I didn’t want to be stalling….That is still the case, but that familiarity at that slow speed is opening up another mode of Downwinding.
I’m now able to ride in sync with the bumps in a way that I hadn’t previously. Previously I had a pretty constant speed and had to find the bumps to suit, I would rush from bump to bump. Now I can go find a bump and sit on it, giving myself more time and saving more energy before moving on. It’s as if I have finally realised that my vehicle has a brake pedal!!!
I will continue exploring This in the videos to come.
Be good, be safe, be kind! 🤙🤙

Good one. Thanks for explaining your stalling technique in detail. Totally makes sense to me now. 🤙

It’s a pretty handy technique for the bigger foils, I didn’t feel like I could manage it yesterday though on the 1201… although I was mostly survival riding. I’ll try with the 1201 again for sure in the future and the 1180. 🤙🤙

I can also confirm from dock starting that I feel that shorter fuses and smaller rear wings are easier to climb the mast. Seems like it will be especially good for downwinding as I expect it would allow for two things, more easily getting high and into the better energy of the swell as well as more easily being able to get high to avoid chop and especially to push forward and over swell. Well see as I have some smaller stabs and possibly a shorter fuse coming.

Thanks for the report 🤙 So far it’s excellent for dw. Gaining mast height easily is key. Thanks for your tips 🤙🤙

👍🍺 I'm a Big Fan of the 1401 me "Beginner KOOK" - if your going to Maui for The Maliko Run this July be great to catch up - is that a GoPro 10 your using is it easy to download the speed clock in the right hand corner, as I'd like to time my Maliko Runs.

I use a GoPro 11 and it’s easy to get the speed showing. First you have to turn on gps on the camera! This records the signals required Then when you are in the editor after you download footage from camera to your phone, go to the pencil icon and then scroll across until you see stickers. Open stickers and you will have a bunch of options to add to the screen from the gps! Speed, tracking, g force, altitude… so many. Speed is what you’re after. It’s not looking likely that I’ll make it over but if I do I’ll get in touch for a cold one! 🤙🤙
