12kph! How slow can you go? Axis 1401 Artpro 35 Skinny

This was the first of five runs this day. I hadn’t planned it but I ended up keeping the same Foil set up for all five of the runs. The only thing I switched out was the boards so five laps of Fishermans with five different boards, all on the same Foil.
This is a 2.2 km run and when it’s blowing from the west it’s a Bay run.

This gave me a good sense of the boards and the differences between them if any. I used some of the boards I had stored away for a bit. Boards like the Axis 7’6. But No spoilers.
The biggest breakthrough here for me was learning that I could use this set up! the Foil setup. If you had asked me even just a few days ago would I would’ve been unsure. It turns out the silly short with the 35 rear and the short mast is an excellent setup.
What it seems to do is create efficiency through low drag but also the leverage of that short fuse allows you to input through smaller movements. This seems to be leaning towards less strenuous Foiling. This is a big deal when it comes to downloading or say flat water pumping… I can see why Dylan Bez loves the silly short for this sort of foiling, it makes a big difference.
So far I’ve only paired this setup with the 1401 and for that it is perfect. Next on the list for me as I think about it will be the 1180. After that perhaps the 1100 spitfire and 1201 artpro. I can see the setup working perfectly with these front foils. Will it work for smaller front foils? I don’t know, but I am keen to find out.
The 7’10 north horizon is the board I’ve been using most recently and currently I really like it. It’s new and exciting for me. I feel like it is a good alrounder, that works easily in bay run style conditions and the smaller ocean style condition that I’ve used it in. It hasn’t let me down so far and I feel safe recommending it as another option for Downwinding. It is yet to be tested in bigger ocean conditions but I’m looking forward to trying it.
The other thing here is learning how to ride slower! and over the next five videos, I explore this and experiment with it, so please come along with me and watch and learn as I am.
All the best, be good, stay awesome 🤙🤙

what was the wind speed? I had a similar setup last night but - couldn't stay up

13-14kts with 5-6km fetch. A lot of people will have trouble in this sort/size of bump, there is a lot of subtle technique and awareness happening that can’t be seen… I try to talk about it through the many videos. eg stance position plays a big role (where you are in relation to the front foil) I think one of the videos where I first size down the the 45 rear foil covers it a bit specifically. Ah! But also the end of the conversation with Dylan from memory around 1hr46min 🤙🤙

Is your stalling technique to basically slow down by riding the mast as low as possible?…and therefore reaching (almost 1300 like) minimum speeds of 13/14 kmh…? Or is there more to it than just using mast height?

@@mistersuperstoked more about feel Id say, understanding your foil at those slow speeds and then shifting your weight back like a brake to force the slow speeds to occur. And then the opposite for mast height, I’m still trying to ride efficient even when slow. Im not trying to drag the system back but to delicately fly it slow. I want mast height if I can manage it, it’s interesting playing with slowing the foil down, especially in the upper water column. You can ride slow but then shoot forward in a moment. Riding the foil deep has no advantage here I believe.
