When Des tells Dame "So she never goes parachuting". That completely caught Dame off guard and i absolutely peed my pants watching her response to that...!!! Dame is the best...!!!

Oh you must i can't stop watching that part...!!! Dame was in the middle of getting another line out for the joke. But Des completely caught her off guard. And she played right into it classic Dame...;)

She is never caught off guard. She graciously laughed with Des at the incredible thought that Madge might ever go parachuting, then continued dominating the proceedings. Unlike some, she can let a person get a word in edgeways, to her credit. Neat little comment of his though.

one of the rare brilliant minds in show biz. not afraid to say what he means and never vulgar inspite of everything ....Recently on australian tv, he spoke out about vulgarity on tv and people in general gave him a slew of angry reponses...CANT UNDERSTAND THAT. People prefer to listen to vulagarity rather than clean , real fun

Barry Humphries, a born performer, out of dreary, tedious Melbourne, Shakespearean actor off Shaftesbury Ave., and subsequente automatic alcoholic, a consumate performer as I was saying...also somebody who is ad libbing most of the time and applying his masterful command of the english language...I wish ther was something negative to say about him n ow.

@@chrispetritsch4959 no I didn't but it is probably one of those cities that went from victorian, to opening up to the modern world, and then some. I guess in the late eighties and early nineties or so . I lived in a city with a similar trajectory, Toronto Canada

I’ve never seen Dame Edna genuinely laugh at her interviewer’s quip. Des is a great straight man but here Dame Edna chortles away at his spontaneous ‘parachute’ line. I miss this kind of interview that no one does anymore, the guests today are just foils for the host, on Des’s show he played the straight guy to set them up or a generous host asking great but not intrusive questions.

Comedians loved going on his show. He basically played the straight man and let them do their act. Unlike today's talk show hosts who want to be the centre of attention rather than the guest.
