I just can't get enough of Dame Edna. I particularly love the way Joan cracks up. Let's face it, if you don't laugh at his incredible wit you have no funny bone. Thank you Barry Humphries for your generous gift of making us laugh. R.I.P.

It's amazing how effortlessly Barry Humphries captures an audience. Even surrounded with legends he commands attention. Truly one of the great performers of all time.

We see Dame Edna live a few years back in SF. Having front row seats, by wife was called on stage...she embarrassed the Hell out of my poor wife! But, what a laugh we all had.

I believe Joan Rivers was the person to bring Dame Edna to the USA. Barry and Joan are comedy royalty. You can see Joan appreciates just how good Barry is and allows Edna to just do her thing!

Joan Rivers totally gets the humour and can't stop laughing whilst Joan and George are like carboard cutouts! fab!!!

He is hilarious as Dame Edna, keeps pushing and pulling at the boundaries of innuendo and decency. Brilliant.

OMG - my husband & I laughed at this skit to the point of weeping in our pants. Classic Dame Edna humour!

Dame Edna non-stop owns the segment and Joan Rivers adores her :-)

This needs a warning that the final joke may cause you to die from laughing. Dame Edna always was, and still is an extraordinary talent. As she does here, she can sit down with 3 great talents and within seconds she fills them with a mixture of laughter and bewilderment. In any group of stars, it is Dame Edna who is the superstar.

Dame Edna is one of our greatest exports; she's certainly the funniest.

@@westaussie965 Barry Humphries is a man (or a *he, as you put it). The fictional character of Dame Edna is a woman/female, just like Minnie Mouse and Miss Piggy. Bart Simpson is a fictional character but voiced by a woman, yet the character of Bart is male, just as ‘Dame’ Edna is a female.

“I love your bone structure , a nose in the middle with an eye either side”.

Joan Rivers trying to hold it together is priceless. I love her. The other two have no idea. Dame Edna is one of the funniest characters we've ever seen.

I saw this the night it aired and laughed my ass off thanks for the trip down memory lane

I remember this, and I remember thinking that Joan Collins and George Hamilton are sooo totally into themselves, or at least appear to be, that the humor of Dame Edna was really only appreciated by Joan Rivers -

I don't think so, they were laughing enough but just going along with it as they probably felt they had to show some decorum but J R being a comedy genius would appreciate every nu once of the humour so would naturally react more to the ribs/jokes. But they were all watching a master at work.

Dame Edna Everage is just brilliant absolutely anywhere on earth...!

“George, and Joan, and Joan” always loved how Edna used the host and guests names nonstop, and would throw in a “little” once every so often.

Joan Collins always had such a high opinion of herself and her modest ability. I remember seeing her seethe during an interview once when she was referred to as having been in B Grade movies prior to appearing on Dynasty.

LOLOLOL... I saw this the very first time it aired back in 1986, and then taped it when it repeated about a month later. Classic. Seeing it again makes me realize how many lines I've stolen from that appearance and how I'm still using some of them to this day.

I remember watching this way back when Joan first had her own chat show. She pretty much introduced Dame Edna to American audiences. My first reaction upon seeing Dame Edna was WTF?? Then I quickly caught on to the wickedly sophisticated humor. I, too, have suffered from organ rejection.

I love, love, love Dame Edna!!!

If I was sitting next to Dame Edna, I would be as terrified as Joan Collins was. You would never know what was coming next. 😂

Reverend Eslam Somehow, I had never heard of Dame Edna until recently. She/he is my new comedic hero. And I've been a fanatic of Mink Stole, Edith Massey, Mary Vivian Pearce and Divine forever. I now must dig up every video I can possibly find of the Grand Dame.

Jim Adams Do seek out Lily Savage, Dr Evadne Hinge and another great Dame, the late Hilda Bracket, and Cissie and Ada, two working class northern English housewives. The British comics known as The Two Ronnies, and even Danny la Rue, and way back in the 30s and 40s there's always been acts in the mould of Edna, who whilst known in Oz truly became a star in Britain as her act too is inspired by the great British tradition of panto (where best boys are women and the women called "pantomime dames") is so much a part of our culture however I feel it won't be long before the UK provides the world with another great act. It's not drag, it's wholly unique. It's talented comedians, actors, musicians and singers in frocks. O - you must see the late great Kenny Everett's Cunning Stunt from the 70s and early 80s (that is her name !) Sadly, it's only tranny shite now like the awful Ru Paul and female impersonation has been overtaken by the transgender agenda.

I remember watching this with my mom, we laughed our asses off! Joan Collins and tan man never seemed to get the joke.

Joan clearly adores Edna. Her humour is so far off base from the norm. Joan was a consummate comedian and when encountering people who can wing it like that she is in sheer admiration. A great trait of hers. At 3:30 when Edna busts the cosmetic surgery line Joan laughter is beyond. The loss of a great great star and funny lady.

They say that Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Andy Kaufman, Louis CK, Joan Rivers, Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason, Charlie Chaplin, Cantinflas, Sarah Silverman, Will Ferrell, Robin Williams and Russell Peters are the funniest comedians ever. But, I've always told everyone the funniest comedian ever is Dame Edna....... hands down !

Hilarious ! Dame Edna - I dips me lid ! I've never seen the (sometimes) vicious Joan Rivers' laugh so hard and be stumped for a response.

Dane Edna, what a class act she was. Barry Humphries created an irrepressible alter ego and when he knew who his fellow guests were going to be he just couldn’t stop himself from mercilessly taking the mickey out of them. Three major cosmetic surgery victims together, he couldn’t pass that up!

Wow! One of The Dam's best! And Interesting to see such a young Joan Rivers. Her irreverent humour was similar to Edna's. No one so far has mentioned the fact that Edna spoke mainly to the guests, vs Joan the host! She kept leaning over to Collins and George. ???

This is great. Thanks for posting. For the record, though, this was not Dame Edna's first U.S. appearence. She actually appeared on SNL with Madeline Kahn in the mid-70s.
