DALLAS: J.R. RETURNS - 1996 Clip (J.R. Gets His Revenge)

Комедия

This is a clip from the CBS special movie "Dallas: J.R. Returns", a reunion movie for the 1978-91 CBS soap "Dallas". The movie originally aired Friday, November 15, 1996.
Using a stock portfolio taken from a trust set up by his father via an intricate scheme, disgraced former oilman John Ross "J.R." Ewing, Jr. (Larry Hagman) interrupts a WestStar Oil board meeting being led by the company's chairman Carter McKay (George Kennedy), who just happens to be J.R.'s arch nemesis.
J.R. notices that his other nemesis Cliff Barnes is nowhere to be found, but announces the reason of his interruption. With the stock portfolio he used, J.R. has become the largest minority shareholder in WestStar. McKay accepts it, but still reminds him that he still can't get Ewing Oil. When J.R. questions why, McKay replies that WestStar no longer owns the company and that Cliff sold it to a new buyer.
The new buyer is revealed to be none other than J.R.'s brother Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy), who states that Cliff sold him the company that morning before leaving Dallas to reunite with his love Afton Cooper and their daughter Pamela. When Bobby asked why J.R. isn't surprised, he replies that things work out just the way you plan them to.
A look of disgust appears on Bobby's face as he quickly realizes that J.R. tricked him back into the oil business. J.R. then gleefully announces to the board that McKay has failed them three ways: "not only is Ewing Oil still alive, but now, there is a Ewing running it (Bobby). And there is a Ewing (J.R.) with enough WestStar stock and proxies to make your lives an absolute hell." He then suggests to the board that they elect him as WestStar's new chairman.
McKay scoffs at that suggestion, but J.R. points out that the board is quietly trying to figure out how much it will cost to retire McKay. Realizing that J.R. has got his revenge on McKay for screwing him out of both WestStar and Ewing Oil five years earlier, he chuckles and begins to call J.R. a SOB.
J.R. just reminds McKay that "some days you're the windshield. And some days you're the bug."

    There will never be another J.R Ewing, I miss Dallas. We need another reboot, the last reboot ended shitty.

  • @michaelzoran

    @michaelzoran

    5 ай бұрын

    The fundamental problem with the "reboot" is it ignored all the events of the two Dallas movies. Also, as we saw in the reboot, the focus was less on "Oil" and more on politically correct things such as Solar Energy. I personally believe the only way to have any form of "reboot" for Dallas would be to have the reboot take place in the past - sort of like a "Prequel." Obviously we could never hope to have anyone other than Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, and Ken Kerchevel play the roles of J.R. Bobby, and Cliff. However, Dale Midkiff did an excellent job of playing Jock in the movie called Dallas: The Early Years. This demonstrates we could have a continuation of where Dallas: The Early Years left off set several decades before the first Dallas show started.

    @@michaelzoran They should have included the Movies because on J.R. gravestone says the only deal he lost meaning he had to somehow got back at Carter McKay eventually and I agree with you the show could take place between Dallas early years-The Original series.That is something they can do, they can do a TV series that takes place (between Dallas The Early Years - 1978 Series ,with extras being discussed) a lot of stuff can be discussed 1)JR Ewing joining his dads company (Ewing oil) and eventually meeting Sue Ellen 2)How Gary met Valene 3)JR sending Goons to take Valene child Lucy to live on Southfork 4)Jock Ewing leaving dallas to go to WW2,having a affair with Margaret Hunter which she ended up pregnant and having Ray Krebbs. 5)How Digger Barnes meeting Rebecca Wentworth and having Cliff Barnes while being still angry and upset with jock 6)Rebecca running away after having a affair with Hutch Mckinney with ending with Digger taking his life and setting jock up for it. 7)Gary being tired or JR Ewing and running away from Dallas 8)Bobby and Jeanna Wades relationship and her leaving him at the alter the first time. Then end of the series will show Bobby and Pam marrying the first time (1978) and driving to Southfork. 9)JR cheating Elema Ramos family out of a deed So so much can be discussed that this series can last many seasons. Now While having that they can do 1 or a few 2 hr movies to wrap up the current timeline. But in just my opinion they need to re-include Dallas Jr returns and War of the Ewings timeline because JR had on his gravestone the only deal he lost meaning he had to get Carter mckay and win wesstar oil. They could include that maybe JR was still running West Star until he got older around the mid 2000s and maybe got sick or something happened to him around the 2009 recession Bobby (down as his next of kin) took over JRS business and while Bobby and Sue ellen sold their shares of west star and Ewing Oil to other share holders which Barnes Global immediately bought the majority shares of WestStar and Ewing Oil. Upon learning That Ewing no longer own Ewing Oil and West Star and that Barnes now owns both they upsets JR to the point of him not speak to anyone until the meeting with John Ross in 2012.

    J.R. was super obsessed with owning Ewing Oil, no matter what. Maybe it was because it was His Daddy's company. Maybe it was like Captain Kirk obsession with the Enterprise, multiplied by 1,000. Weststar was worth millions to a billion more than Ewing Oil. His stock ownership alone, was many millions worth more. Yet, no matter how much wealth he had, J.R. had to have Ewing Oil. Call it obsessive compulsive disorder.

    I think it was cause Jock always wanted to have Ewing Oil last forever as a family business, and he always instilled that dream in JR and Bobby. But since JR was the most comparable to Jock than all the Ewing sons I think it was his goal to make sure he kept his daddy’s dream alive as long as he could. And in the series JR would say that he loved his company and he loved his son above all else. So even here as he took over WestStar which like you said was enormous compared to Ewing Oil even during its height, he wanted to have his son inherit the company that his daddy started. Jr always wanted to prove to his father that he could carry on his legacy no matter what.

    There was a three part mini series about halfway between the time of the last Dallas TV series and this TV movie. JR was still running Westar and Bobby was running Ewing Oil along with Sue Ellen. The important part was that it kept continuity with this TV movie. About the worst thing they did with the new series IMO was completely ignoring both this movie and that mini series and starting the show off with JR stuck in a nursing home. The actor they got to play John Ross was good as was the idea of Barnes having a daughter named Pam that was involved with John Ross (good actress played her too) and of course JR stole every single scene he was in (so much so that the series couldn't survive after his death).
