I was just watching the TV series Peyton Place and William Smithers was in it. In this role he played a very nice family man and was running Peyton Mills. William Smithers has a distinctive voice and I knew I've heard that voice before. I looked up the actor and found out he had played Jeremy Wendell, I'm thinking of course that's who he is, he pretty much looked the as he did in Dallas, just younger, he was on Peyton Place in the mid 1960's. Actually, I've been finding several actors that went on to have great movie and TV careers besides the obvious two of Mia Farrow and Ryan O'Neal.

I love Dallas. My Mom, Dad and I watched this when I was growing up. This is one of the best scenes of the whole series. I knew something wasn't right about this whole scene because of how J.R. was acting. He was so low key considering how he would've been normally. Especially how low key he was when he said, "Wendell, you are the scum of the earth." You just knew something was off. Great scene by everyone.

Wendell's one weakness was that he didn't know how to extact revenge. He'd never needed to until JR humiliated him. Before that he was simply a cold blooded ruthless businessman who only cared about acquiring Weststar assets by any means necessary. His obsessive desire to get revenge over JR made him careless, and it cost him everything and more.

From approximately 2:50 until approximately 5:00 Jeremy Wendell answers all of the questions that were taped by the Dallas Police Department so that anything he says could be used against him. I am happy when Bobby and JR Ewing worked together that there were positive results and having to see Jeremy Wendell arrested just made their day. Just look at their nice smiles at the very end. Mack was a perfect character. Kennedy really put everything into this character. You could really see Carter McKay as this tough, blue collar badass. Most likely worked on the rigs, became a foreman, saved every dime he had, incurred no debts, and bought everything with cash, including his company and Krebbs property. The only two things I didn’t like was the inclusion of Rose, and how the writers handled Tommy. The Mack character was too measured to make these kind of errors with those two. I kind of wish they had McKay around when Jock was around. Could have written him as an old protege of Jock’s who thinks JR is ruining his mentor’s legacy. Could have run years of stories with the two families, and allow the Barnes feud to take a breather every couple of years.

It's funny you say that because I wonder why Larry Hagman didn't think that up? I read somewhere that he and George Kennedy they knew each other for years off the set and it was George Kennedy who tried to get him to stop drinking. I think George County was so busy doing movies that it just never dawned on them that probably is the answer to your question. I agree George Kennedy would have worked well with Jim Davis I don't know exactly if you would have been Carter McKay. See Wendell was an off-and-on character till 86. So a lot of his hate for Jr was back in the 80s when they were close. Jr promised him Ewing oil and backed out when jock and Ellie worked out their marital differences. Wendell was the only person on this show to a beat and Jr twice. Keep in mind a lot of people never be Jr once. So was a big greedy like someone said but still I don't think that he was this stupid. I don't know I do think George Kennedy would have worked out much better early on. How he would have worked with the show early on given that Pamela Barnes was there would be kind of tough to explain. Even if you took the Digger Barnes rivalry away for a Time he still would have had to do something with Victoria Principal and I don't know how you could work that in. Him being chairman of Westar and being part of the Wendell past just made more sense especially after of Kimberly Crider and so on

George Kennedy is why the series kept going for as along as it did. He's like an elephant grabbing every bit of space. That huge red face and the voice, he was scary. As a kid watching this in the 80's, I wasn't sure if I should emulate JR or Carter McKay.

I think that was the thought of why Larry Hagman brought him in. I do think that William Smithers was better. His contract was disputed. I don't know how you could have had both Wendell & Mckay in the long run. But yea if you don't have William Smithers even though Wendell was a better person to be Chairman of Weststar he fit the personality more then yea George Kennedy was the next best bet. I think would have been better to have made Kennedy something other than Weststar Chairman but I don't know how. His personality is more an Independent Type not a corporate type.

As great as it is to see him get what was coming to him, it's hard to believe he would admit to all of that in front of 4 members of the family whose home and ranch he attacked and their highly esteemed lawyer. Still, it was a neat way for JR to even things up with him. As he once said to him, "If it takes the rest of my life I'll get back at you!!!!"
