    Watching this after our new mustard gas Betta fish passed away yesterday, saw a small patch of fuzz on his scales Monday 8:30pm, got some salt and anti fungal treatment Tuesday 9am which we treated him with but by 4pm he was gone. Less than 24 hours it was a small patch to his whole body. Just trying to find answers really but all help for the future as we will be getting another so I'm glad I've found this channel 💓

    Awesome video this is so informative and straight to the point! One thing i'd like to add for the aquarium salt though is to be careful because if you add too much it can cause kidney and bloating issues in your betta fish.

    You need indian almond leaf extract and rock salt, always water change 2 days after if the fish got the fungus, throw everything in your tank decorations, plants, rocks and substrate they are contaminated by fungus and you must sterilize your tank. don't forget to put methylene blue. and lower the water level if your fish have a swim bladder disease. avoid putting some wheelchairs or something. the same way i said earlier to cure it and don't over feed the fish.

    Hi. I need help. What do I do for a betta fish that has no visible signs of illness other than sleeping and not eating. All he does all day is sleep at the top and look dead or sleep at the bottom and occasionally go to the top for air and back down. I had him in a filtered, heated and fully live planted 29 gallon tank for 7 months. Now that he’s so lethargic, I moved him to a 5 gallon tank with a filter, heater and live plants. Still no change. It’s been about three weeks since he’s been like this.

    I’m not sure what to do with my betta 😫 it don’t really look fungal and it’s definitely not ich. It’s kinda like white flaky bits on the top of his head. I’m thinking it could be stress where I had to switch him to a new tank a couple days ago since his last tank started leaking. I had a flooded living room 🙃 I also have a good set up with heater, filter, 10 gallon aquarium, etc. Could it be fungal? Or stress?

    I've used both of these products (Unaware they were bad for them... I used melafix on my betta fish for fin rot, (after doing research it wasn't just panic medication :"D) and he ended up having white spot ick (which is what I used the bettafix for) and he died from shock due to the medication (he had been on medication for a long time trying to cure it) it's so disheartening to hear that they make these products but do not label them correctly for what they are safe for.

    Medication for fungus in betta fish

  • @SketchCarellz
    @SketchCarellz8 ай бұрын

    TLDR; fungal infections look like cotton and fluffy. They can be caused by a variety of reasons (fish cut itself in the tank, planets brought in fungus, underlying bacterial infection). To treat, remove the fish from the tank and put it in a smaller enclosure. Treat with methylene blue and first, and/or sea salt. You can do both, but start with one, then the other. Treatment talking points start at 9:46.

  • @sexicanag8299

    Okay, my betta fish had these white spots on his front fins. They are not like fuzzy like cotton balls... But his fin has broken off where the spot was! It happened on both sides of his fins... And one side hasn't grown back. But it keeps coming back! Last time I bought some stuff from petco for fungal bacteria it did not help. So I tried Ick-X, no luck It is still there. And I did Ick-X treatment for like 5 days straight. I have the tank at 81 degrees right now. I do not have it cycled since I'm doing multiple water changes when i was doing the Ick treatment. What can it be!? How can I treat it?

    @@Beautyexpress07 Aquarium salt and sea salt are both same thing, that is natural unprocessed sodium chloride salt from the sea / store (no additives just pure salt). Epsom salt is magnesium sulphate and is totally different and is used to bathe swollen & bloated fish. 1 teaspoon/liter 5-7minutes bath. Regular aquarium salt / sea salt is used in small amount to prevent fresh water fish sickness. Medium dosage of 1table spoon for 10litres of water makes hospital tank water, where most of the fish can stay for many days. It can cure fin rot and about 60% of fresh water fish problems. Always Change the level of salt in the water slowly (up or down) not to stress the fish that is recovering. This is easy by doing 10-20% water changes every two days after 1week treatment in the salt water is finished.

    tea tree oil is in all three, bettafix, pimafix, and melafix, bettafix is basically just a watered down version of melafix so its technically " safer " but still not actually safe to use. even if the fish doesn't die they suffer and struggle to breath during the entire treatment. under-dosing is going to result in suffering and not fixing the problem, so don't do that either lol. the way that oil effects labyrinth fish isn't the only problem either, any oil type product can negatively effect how oxygen mixes with the water as well as negatively impact the osmosis. i didn't know that until recently, the guy who manages the fish part of my LFS has been doing this for over 20 years and done major research on hundreds of illnesses/species. Columnaris also 100% not fungal, that fluffy growth on it isn't fungal either, its just bacterial, its also known as " cotton mouth disease " and its very common in livebearers like guppies. you can definitely treat it, but its a bitch to treat, mostly because it kills very quickly, the fish typically dies a few days after contracting it. like its not easy to treat at all, you need both kanaplex and furan2 together to treat it in most cases and that can be super hard on the fish so if you're not super careful with the dosage you could end up really hurting your fish's organs and potentially kill them. Its also super important to quarantine anything you put in your tanks, including plants. you can get all kinds of nasty parasites from not QTing plants like camalanous worms. i've had those twice and they're a BITCH. no regular parasite medication kills them, you have to use a special dewormer to paralyze them so they fall out of the fish and starve to death. all it takes to contaminate a tank is a single drop of contaminated water. I've only had fungal infections on my fish a couple times, and honestly concentrated aquarium salt baths have always been enough for me. i don't like having it in their tanks 24/7 as it can mess with their slime coats which in turn can cause infections, but its amazing for baths. and i agree with MB, that combined with salt baths should work for anyone no matter your experience level. and lol, MB and malachite green are both bad for staining like that, i'll be in my fish room and have touched something with some on it and not knowing until i randomly see my fingers are blue, like where does this shit even come from xD

    Sea salt contains iodine and it's very toxic for freshwater fish. It is good for your finger but not for bettas. What you wanna use is salt that came from rocks. Not from the sea. You can find this salt in the aquarium industry. Just ask specifically for salt for freshwater fish. Not for salt water fish, it's different.

  • @GraciisBettas

    There is a small amount of salt in freshwater naturally in the wild. I think you're thinking of Aquarium salt which is how it's labelled and marketed in aquatic shops which is for freshwater fish. It's exactly the same as kosher salt. 'aquarium salt' is made from sea salt as is Kosher salt :) both are made in exactly the same way, from evaporated salt just one is marketed for fish and is very over priced. The other is for cooking, Both the exact same item

    @@GraciisBettas Nope, you're wrong about that I'm sorry. You can google it and see the difference. I don't know what Kosher salt is, but aquarium salt is not the same as sea salt. One comes from rocks the other from the sea. It's like Himalayan salt, doesn't contain iodine.
