We must acknowledge the great refereeing job here by Ref, MARK CALO-OY. He reminded the fighters plenty and cut at the right times. The moment Gamboa's back touched the ropes from the final power punch, Mark stepped in and waved it off to save Yuri from further hurt.

Just because he doesn’t go to sleep doesn’t mean brain damage isn’t happening. Gamboas body was on survival mode because his brain went on time out.

I remember when Gamboa made his pro debut and how they talked about how good he was and how fast his hands were. That was in 2007. Now 17 years later, he’s a stepping stone for up and coming fighters. Sad to watch. Roy Jones Jr. too.

The thing is though he never changed his style . He was able to get away with keeping his hands down and not returning them to guard when his chin was fresh and his reflexes were quick . That’s why he always gets knocked out .

Yes he does, Gamboa looks like he always has, even for 40. Dynamic and explosive offense, 0 defense and never keeps his hands up. For an inside fighter dude has a death wish the way he pulls back with his hands down everytime. But his movement and conditioning looked good idk what ur talking about, his technique is what keeps getting him KO'd.

Gamboa was one of my favorite boxers. Four things appear to have happened he Father Time is kicking his ass, his spirit is broken, made bad decisions, and got comfortable in the the US . This man we see today, is remanence of what once was a great Olympic boxer.

@@BigDogRoy Why doesn't he keep his hands up? He's a veteran I don't understand how he doesn't know how to defend a punch, Isaac couldn't miss if he tried. Gamboa looked in great shape and was throwing heat back, but he just kept pulling back with his hands down and getting cracked. If he trained with a good defense coach, or even CRUNK gym and learned how to use offense as defense, but he's too old now. But even if he just used a day 1 high guard, stuff you learn on day one keep your hands up and chin down, he does the opposite but he's like 4 feet tall, too short to try pulling back and staying out of range cuz he can't hit you from there either..

Props to Gamboa. He did his best. Cruz is just a force of nature.

Cruz definitivamente es alguien con quien no te quieres topar, toda la pelea estuvo hacía enfrente, nunca lo dejó de presionar hasta que pudo cazarlo, es un auténtico perro de pelea que desde los primeros 10 segundos demostró de lo que es capaz. Da mucho gusto saber que México aún tiene esos boxeadores que presionan y todo el tiempo avanzan hacía adelante, esos boxeadores que tienen gran potencia y son noqueadores, este tipo de guerreros que nos gustan tanto.

@@LJ023 He definitely has a world-class chin (his fight with Tank is also a testament to that), but yeah, he isn’t the smartest (ironically enough, probably a result of his great chin, which has caused him to take far more direct shots to the head than the average boxer over the years). There’s a high probability that he develops CTE, unfortunately.

Age caught up with Gamboa who is a true warrior by heart. He just kept coming back against big shots. His corner were mercilessly heartless.

Pitbull Cruz really is a killer, I love his style. His style is like a reminiscent of Mike Tyson. It sucks the fight with Shakur Stevenson didn’t follow through, would’ve been a great fight for this generation.
