Davis vs Gamboa FULL FIGHT: December 28, 2019 - PBC on Showtime

Gervonta Davis thrilled a boisterous crowd of 14,129 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, winning the vacant WBA World Lightweight title with a twelfth-round TKO over the courageous Yuriorkis Gamboa in the main event of an entertaining card on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing.
Making his lightweight debut, Davis, a two-time champion at super featherweight, went into the 12th round for the first time in career, showing that he carries power late.
On Friday, Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) initially weighed in at 136¼ before coming back to weigh 134.8 pounds 90 minutes later. There was some speculation that the weight cut would zap Davis’s energy reservoir. He had a lull in the middle rounds, though still managed to land 120 of 321 total punches (37%) to Gamboa’s 78/617 (13%).
“Coming into this fight, I knew Gamboa was a tough opponent, even though everybody was writing him off,” Davis said. “I was catching him and I was hurting him, even though he was alert. I believe my performance was a C-plus.
“The (weight cut) wasn’t really a problem. I blame myself. I’m improving. I feel comfortable at both weights (130 and 135). I’m the top dog.”
Davis was sharp early on. With 1:45 left in the second, he dropped Gamboa with a short left cross. Gamboa rose but limped for the rest of the frame. Afterward, it was revealed that he had tore an achilles and would require surgery.
In lasting until the twelfth, Gamboa (30-3, 18 KOs) not only showed bravery, but also had his moments during the fight.
“I’m a warrior, I kept going,” the former unified world featherweight champion said afterward. “But as soon as I felt it, I knew it was ruptured. I can’t put pressure on it.”
Gamboa’s corner taped up his right ankle between the fourth and fifth rounds.
It didn’t matter.
In the fifth, Davis exerted more punishment on Gamboa, landing a left hook off of Gamboa’s chin, then a left uppercut. The fight nearly ended in the eighth, when, late in the stanza, Davis floored Gamboa again with another left. The Cuban stumbled to his feet and was saved by a bell that rang moments later.
Gamboa showed great character in hanging in against Davis. But the tone of the fight had grown monotonous. Davis was winning almost every second of every round.
Finally, in the twelfth, Davis connected with a beautiful left uppercut square on Gamboa’s chin. He crashed to the canvas a third time. Referee Jack Reiss had seen enough, immediately waving the fight off. Official time was 1:17.

pfft why? Gamboa is on the good way to 40 and only lost his legacy cuz dude didnt duck and went up too heavy with Crawford while he was already old. Gamboa was seen as the next big thing and surely got the skill to do it just wrong management (50 cent). Only Tanks uppercuts are quiet impressive the rest is okey. He s a bit slow for the weight and a Crawford will crush him too!

Gamboa is a warrior, but this man was moving like he was drunk. I have tremendous respect for gamboa, most people won't understand how hard it is to compete at the highest levels, much less fight with a torn muscle, ligament or hurt body parts. Even in defeat, he's a champion in my eyes.

Honestly after seeing this fight for the 3rd time it allowed me to see the difference in approach from Gamboa which in my observations revealed he was pressing to hold more which in fact may have taken away some opportunities for Tank to time his deadly uppercuts .... I Love Gamboa as a Competitor and A fighter he is a true warrior... but I really do feel this TKO would of happened sooner had Gamboa not gotten injured...Tank was really finding his range and was showing he could connect when he wanted to... the holding is what prolonged the inevitable outcome in my opinion... Great Fight showed so much heart and Determination from both fighters....

In all phases, Davis is such an aggressive, elite and gifted fighter. The only way to fight him is to stay close and stay busy. If you give Davis any time to think and plan by trying to fight him patient, you're finished. Gamboa executed the right game plan against Davis and fought like a lion, it just didn't quite work out.

I don't think Gamboa knew to a degree until the dust settled
In the break of the second round you can hear Gamboa saying to his corner that he can't walk, they ask him if the shoe is broken but he then says "No, is my foot..." implaying that he has a problem whit his foot, after that you can see counteless times in which he drags his feet... trying not to stand on it, I'm not saying he lost because of this, but shit makes it way harder to fight.

All credit to gambia. He lasted another 10 rounds because as long as the blood is warm and flowing,the muscles are warm,and he's full of adrenaline he can't really feel it.but I promise after the fight when his heart slowed down, he was in pure pain.
Gamboa, although defeated, put a galant stand against Davis , a good fight of course.

Davis got hit with an elbow from Gamboa in the 11 round, then Davis' trainer teaching him how to avoid it.
Gamboa messed up his ankle and was in obvious distress. I replayed the fight focusing on his ankle and his foot work was definitely off. Especially knowing how aggressive gamboa is in all his other fight.
