Many of the great Yorkshire cricketers have been "difficult bastards". Fred Trueman, Brian Close, Ray Illingworth: to name a few. They didn't suffer fools and hated the "soft southern attitude" they perceived in of some of the ECB's higher echelons.

@@MrHistorian123 Mr. Clough played for the MCC. It's quite a prestigious club of which you will have heard. He may well have earned money as manager of a soccer team. But it would unfair to hold that against him.

@@robertcottam9000 He played for the MCC because he was a good friend of Geoff Boycott and he guested for them. But he wasn't a serious cricketer. I have played many MCC sides over the years and they tend to comprise a core of serious cricketers (one team I played included 6 former test players) and some guests, who are often not serious players.

Good answer, not particularly a B fan but that sounded honest, not least because there are a lot of idiots and fools around and sadly they're often in positions of power or authority, you've only got to look at politicians to see that, and the bbc of course.

Boycott is a typical Yorkshireman. We don't suffer fools gladly and hate waffle. We can't be doing with the 'politics' that has ruined many sports. If that offends others, then so be it. It's their loss. Finally, he knows he was a brilliant batsman and so why should he pretend otherwise?

Hey dude... It's Tendulkar who has taken the country's pride to next level. And it's him who tolerated everything around him...The pressure to perform was immense on Tendulkar. Ask any cricket lover he would say what was it being like Tendulkar...He has taken that responsibility on his shoulders for 20 years... Only an Indian can understand better than anybody else about being like Tendulkar...

Well, no matter how much of an awkward bastard Boycott is or was when he was playing there is no doubt that he was a great batsman. Not only his record shows that but the fact he played in England teams that were good enough to win in Australia and the West Indies the two hardest places to go and win when he played. He won the county championship with Yorkshire too and was instrumental in a one day win at Lords. Was he awkward or difficult? Yes but that goes with his character as a committed batter. However, after saying all that, I think he has lost his appeal recently with his decline into latent right wing Toryism. He was born into a mining community yet doesn't seem to understand how the Tories plundered such communities and destroyed them both between the two world wars and after the 1984-85 great mining lock out or strike as the Tory press like to call it. He has turned his back on his roots because he has grown so selfish nothing matters to him but his own ego. A great shame.
