Спорт
The art of batting long periods of time in Test match cricket, with Michael Vaughan hosting Australian legend Ricky Ponting and one of the best defensive batsmen of all time - Geoffrey Boycott.

Both were outstanding in this. Ponting showed some elite level insight whilst also displaying an appropriate level of respect to an elder statesman. Respect to both

@@joebloggs3551 Couldn't agree more. What an amazing guy Ricky is. Of course we ribbed him, but I don't know anyone who doesn't respect him.
Ponting pointing out the necessity of taking joy in defensive shots - right next to Boycott. This is a masterclass and as a Test cricket tragic a complete treasure of a video. As an American learning cricket from a declaration match standpoint 20 years ago, Geoffrey Boycott's cricket instruction books were my little Bibles. Man, this video something really special.

LOL its true though, he is a t20 slogger and hasnt figure out test match yet, given time and more training he might make a phenomenal test bastmen though as his skill IS there. (1500 runs in one season of T20 shows he can bat) He just needs more patience and better front foot defence.

Pure cricketing gold, Geoffrey Boycott tells it as it is, what a legend, England's finest.
Boycs has suberb communication skills, even at his grand old age.
Boycott's memory is so sharp and so are his skills. It's like he was both playing and commentating regularly just yesterday.
"That's caught at short mid wicket". "Nah!! They never had that one for me!" LOL Classic Geoffrey. Love him.

He was, once, briefly, but the players wouldn't listen to him. They didn't like him telling them they were doing stuff wrong. Player power got him out again. Those players were so arrogant, they thought they already knew everything.

He worked with people he played with. They hated him for his slow scoring, overly defensive play and his arrogance. Why listen to somebody who, at the time, was regarded as a dinosaur?
Boycott is a national treasure, love him. Ponting, exquisite, what a batsman!!!
I could listen to Boycott talk about cricket all day. Love him.
If Geoffery were to 20-20 today,I am sure he would play all 20 overs-by taking a single evey last ball of every over! No doubt,Test Cricket still survives bcz of people like Sir Geoffery, the God of perfect defence! Love to all in this video.
12 minutes of batting tips for lifetime. Thank Sir Geoffrey Ponting.
I love how competitive Boycott is!
Ricky was full of pride when Boycott was praising him
Great content. This is what we want from Geoffrey - sharing the huge amount of knowledge he has about batting
Wow. There absolute test giants giving valuable lessons.
Some years ago, as a young opening-bat club player who had never been taught anything, I was given an MCC Coaching book as a work leaving present. There were sections on batting by Boycott, Richards and others but it was the section by Boycott that had a big influence on me. His tips on preparation, concentration, foot movement - brilliant. It would be fair to say that had a huge, positive influence on my playing career. Yes, Boycott could be a boring batsman to watch but he was fantastically effective and any young player who dismisses what he has to say is missing a big trick.

Boycott wasn’t that talented a lot of his success came from hard work which the normal person can relate to. Viv Richards could do things that no one else could do so people with more ability take for granted certain aspects which make them less effective coaches

2 years later and this comment is even more true. I’ve lost count of how many ducks england openers have got this year.
I am Australian, and from Queensland, and the little Tozzie (Tasmanian Aussie) legend of Ricky Ponting is one of my favourite ever players in my 45 years (he is only 2 years my junior), but I am disappointed Michael Vaughn himself did not contribute to this discussion on batting as he was a class batsman also. Ponting's 156 in the 4th innings of the match to save that test at Old Trafford in 2005 was great, but not greater than Vaughn's own 166 in the 1st innings of the same match.
@Bernie8330

@Saif Ullah Khan Not when he was playing he wasn't but he does seem to be somewhat forgotten in retirement for some reason. Maybe he has just been overshadowed by Kevin Pietersen a little as Pietersen came along around the end of Vaughn's peak period, and Pietersen had a larger than life aura in a similar way to someone like Viv Richards.
A MASTERCLASS from our geoff we all love him wisdom at its finest wow as for ricky another superb plaayer and a legend
Love the way the others couldn't get a word in over Boycott
Boycott a brilliant analyst of the game. Remember he was a genuine admirer of cricket irrespective of nationality.
What boycott said towards the end of the video is priceless. Plenty of plays with good stats , but it doesn't matter if u don't perform when the team need u to perform.

That is one of the best cricket segments I have ever seen I am a massive fan of all 3 players growing up geoff boycott was still playing and playing well. Ricky a fantastic bat lovely captain same with Vaughan captain fantastic 2005. Geoff Boycott his words great to listen to so informative a legend and one of my favourites in cricket his commentary and books very special to me I have his Books. Every youngster should watch and listen to these 3 greats 😊
This is incredible and very funny. Get these 3 in the nets more often
Ricky at 15, 16 was facing test bowlers in the academy. they would bowl bouncers at full pace, and he would cart them. they may have started off a bit slower than normal, but they soon increased their pace to full pace. There is a couple of articles from his time in the academy stating, that whenever he came out to bat, all the admin staff, ancillary people would come to watch his net sessions..... Some thing really special to watch, according to those that were there....
All the advice i need as an opener. Simply explained and on the money!

Faultless description of the batsmans' mindset.I used to watch Boycott bat, for what seemed like forever, when i was growing up..absolutely loved it..proper test cricket is a thing of beauty, unmatched in any other sport. Ricky Ponting, i could listen to, for many hours, talking about the game..Two great cricketers....Vaughany had his moments...🤔
Amazing to hear tips from legends!
Sheer joy to watch and listen to.
Great to see these three legends walking the walk.
Not to forget, Michael Vaughan was a very good batsman himself.
Awesome explanations from two master class batsmen
Boycott himself was one of the best batsman of his time
So good to see. Both for Boycs stil going very strong. Ponting was always a fierce competitor. And Vaughn who was an Ashes winning captain , and theres not many of those! And of course being a Yorkshireman, two out of three on this masterclass isnt bad.

How could anyone not give this video a thumbs up. A great lesson by three batting greats.
8:05 I am an Indian but that reference that too by Geoffrey Boycott. Love for cricket ❤️
Boycott is often misunderstood and people think he's arrogant. He's not, he was dedicated to cricket like a religion. Way ahead of his time and this masterclass only shows that when it comes to batting, not much has changed over the years. Get the basics right, cut out the mistakes and concentration. Brilliant.
These bt sport master classes are pure gold!
Thanks Geoffrey Sir regards from Kashmir
Wow that great Geoffrey standing with the bat is so familiar that it brings back memories. The defencive stroke is still intact! India should use his experience . The way he talks is so clear.
There will always be the argument with Geoff whether he played for the benefit of his team or for his own place in the record books. Even his great friend Jonathan Agnew has acknowledged that the charges of selfishness have come from too many people not to have a inkling of truth. However no one can argue about his knowledge of the techniques of batting. This is a marvellous instructive video from a pure technician in the art of batting.
It is not just about records but it is about winning matches for your team or saving matches for your team
Sir Geoffrey Boycott feels like Rocky Balboa for Batting. 👏🤩
