Creationist Kent Hovind Challenges Me, I Respond

Young earth creationist Kent Hovind recently responded to me and claims I've been brainwashed. He says evolution is a religion and that I've fallen for it. The way he attempts to argue evolution vs creation is not productive, so I discuss what we can do better to elevate the discourse. I'm very careful with response videos and reaction videos, as they often escalate conflict, but I decided to go forward with this video to hopefully encourage us all to do better in these tough conversations.
Kent has done videos on Aron Ra, Matt Dillahunty, Paulogia, Viced Rhino, and more awesome atheist youtubers, so I'm... amused at being someone worthy of responding to. He responded to my deconversion story "This Is Exactly Why I'm an Atheist," where I discuss how I left Christianity, going from evangelical to atheist.
No spongebob dolls were harmed in the making of MY video, but I can't say the same for Kent.
My deconversion video: • This Is Exactly Why I'...

Is believing a human genome that contains code so complex it is read in multiple directions, has error correction, sophisticated encryption, and ascribing that unrivalled level of complexity to a designer as stupid as you just assume? The technology you used to post this reply was designed, engineered, and constructed by intelligence and required a high level of knowledge in many disciplines, you get that don't you? The human body processes more instructions per second than EVERY computer combined in the whole world and does this consuming a measly 20 watts of electricity. This is not a belief, it is a scientific mathematical fact, do you suspend your every day observations that complex ordered information necessities an intelligent mind so you can hold on to a theory that requires you to ignore your life long observations? You are brainwashed if you believe the nonsense that is evolution because you have to break all of the universal laws, all of known physics knowledge, all scientific observations concerning information requires intelligence, and worst of all the fact numbers (there is math everywhere from the micro to the macro) only reside in a mind, you need to eject all of these things to propose everything comes from nothing, laws create themselves, insanely complex information pops into existence, and random mutations can solve real world engineering problems like flight, so yeah, if you eject the world you experience and the observations you make every day of your life then you are brainwashed into believing a fairy tale for God denying adults.

praetorianAU, First of all Kent is not God. When Kent said someone is brained washed he was referring to the brainwasher, Satan. Who has deceived the whole world that he doesn't exist. Not only that has darkened the non believers, the non faithful's hearts. So as to make them automatically and instinctively, naturally more susceptible to Satan's lies and deception. And reject that God exist. So as you can clearly see there is no irony what so ever.

Maybe but there are other possibilities. Its not unreasonable to assume that Kent Hovind is acting greedily or maliciously rather than childishly. I agree that he is taking on some of the actions 5th graders do when they get in fights but hes also not acting anything like a 5th grader in other ways. 5th graders don't create and hit representations of other kids they are mad at very often. They don't put on a munch of props to illustrate why they don't need to do a chore. Kent is cultivating a very specific audience. If GMS was much larger than Kent I might think that even engaging with his is less than responsible because the publicity is harmful.

You don't know me from any other stranger on the internet, but after watching this video, I had to comment. I grew up a Southern Baptist Evangelical. I was in my teens when I was introduced to Kent Hovind's work, and I latched on tight to it. I respected this man, revered this man, thought he was THE authority on Creationism & Science. Because I, like you, loved science. I eventually got the chance to meet him in person, and I was in awe (even though he was dismissive of my existence and overall rude, but I'm not here to disparage the man) because I was meeting my "hero." Fast forward a decade or so, after leaving my faith and gradually deconstructing everything I grew up believing, completely changing my entire world view, I never gave Kent Hovind another thought. Until now. You made this video 3 years ago but I'm seeing it for the first time just now. Thank you for doing what you do, from the deepest depths of my heart. We genuinely need more people like you in this world. I am so very glad your channel came across my recommendations, and I look forward to watching more of your content.

Psychology names this "transmission". It helps the offender to implict violence into his opponent without actually acting out violence against his opponent physically. Same goes for the countless personal insults. Its basically like a bully smacking his own hand while looking at the bullied person, implicting "you're about to get beaten up, just wait till school ends". No words neccessary. Its a rhetorical figure not of speech but of gestics and mimics so to say, but a very violent one and therefore really proves that the theist has zero arguments against him and just tries to "bully him back into place". But maybe its directed to the theists in Hovind's own audience as well, like "don't you dare doubt the fairytale I told you all the years. Not after you blindly followed half of your life without thinking like dull sheeps."

I think a lot of atheists don't realise that if they lived in Jesus's day and were criticising the pharisees, that Jesus would be doing an even better job than them. i appreciate Kent's defence of creation. ( frankly even if i didn't believe in God, I still wouldn't believe in evolution. my objections to it stand on their own based on what I consider to be inconsistencies) but he also believes that God is a tyrant. which is sadly what modern christian theology teaches. i reject that notion in favour of what the early church believed and what Jesus actually taught. I do not defend the inconsistencies in modern christian theology any more than i would defend the inconsistencies in the tenants of scientism and Darwinism.

Darwinian evolution is Occam's worst nightmare and his razor tears it to shreds in comparison to ANY sort of theory that posits that life came from any other highly complex order. Not just intelligent design. the dualistic illusion that either Darwinian evolution or a VERY specific creation account interpreted by flawed human beings from the bible, are the only possible explanations for the entirety of organic matter on planet earth is flagrantly reductionistic in my opinion. fourthly. DNA change does not constitute creation of harmonious order. rather it is the product of such an order. fifthly. equating retroactively and archaeologically researched biological science to mathematics does not help anybody. thanks for reading to the bottom! :) i don't get to discuss like this often enough.

When my patients refuse to listen to me, they could very well die. This is even more likely because I am a psychiatrist, and gaining my patient's trust is the most important thing I can do. I am equally impressed by your gracious and compassionate outlook towards those who disagree with you. More Christians need to have that open and loving perspective, rather than arrogance like Kent. Wrong. Kent IS christian like. Just not "christian propaganda pretense" like. There is a notable difference in their self depiction or ideals and the way your average christian will react when confronted with something that threatens to shake his whole carefully kept together world view. Or how they talk / what their book says and how they act in reality when nobody watches. (e.g. adultery). Claiming Kent is not how a christian should be or Steven Anderson or P-Robes or "Coach Dave" is ultimately just another case of the "no true scotsman" fallacy, US deciding for THEM who is and isn't fitting into the alleged stereotype of "a real christian". Look at the enormous number of hate-spreading radical pastors with internet channels or Megachurches and where would you even begin or stop to define "christian"? They surely see themselves as such, so how can WE reject that claim just based on what we'd like to see a christian be like?

I remember a time that I was having a debate with someone that I used to be friends with. We hadn't spoken in a while, when we met up again, but I remembered having a lot of interesting logical debates with him, in high school. He had become a Trump supporter in the time since we last spoke; I, remembering how intelligent he was in the past, tried to engage him in a rational debate about Trump. (I was coming at it from the perspective that he probably wasn't someone who paid much attention to politics, and that he was a republican, so he was just supporting the party candidate.) I pretty much immediately burned that bridge down. Not because I was being angry, or vitriolic, but because I pushed too hard too fast... I think... It's possible that he was so far gone, that nothing would have convinced him, but I basically just tried to bring all of Trumps obviously insane actions to his attention, in a "You probably weren't paying attention to this, because this kind of disqualifies the credibility of your opinion." kind of way. He just got so angry that he refused to talk to me anymore. (Sorry to segue the conversation into something that's not related to religion, but I thought the scenario was pretty similar.)
