Muslim Feminist Accidentally Discredits Islam (feat. Rationality Rules)

Amani Al-Khatahtbeh says that Islam founded the principles of gender equality now called feminism in a video called "Can you be a Muslim feminist?" Women in Islam are often thought to be oppressed, but is that true? In answering that, Amani accidentally discredits the Quran, the Hadith, and Islam as a whole. Thanks to Rationality Rules for lending a hand!

Some current christian theologians in attempt to denigrade modern feminism and gender equality used "red flagging" and associating modern feminisim (1960s) with communism and Friedrich Engels. (look for Jutta Burggraf and book called Gender) I might have one topic for you guys and i give some credit to Feno 3000 for bringing it here... So called "judeo-christian values". a) People who are jewish by religion refuse New Testament on base that Messiah havent come yet. b) European christians were persecuting jewish people (based on both ethnicity and religion) for not accepting Jesus, and blamed them for his death. (Regardless it was a roman soldier giving him a mercy kill), while the official doctrine was revoked in 1965. c) Term judeo-christian is quite new term, which gives the jewish people credit for creating the deuteronomy. My personal opinion is that skeptics in USA work a LOT with the holy texts of one or another religion, but there are more every-day concepts which are partially independent. Try to follow them out of the box... or book. My reason for that is that in every case holy text is interpreted by a priest or person of authority. In that case, book itself becomes much less important as the interpretation itself.

_> Muslim Feminist Accidentally Discredits Islam_ No she doesn't. She is a propagandist engaging in *taqiya,* she is deliberately lying to make Islam appear less threatening. _> "Muslims are just people who should be judged on an individual basis"_ "Nazis are just people who should be judged on an individual basis". Do you see the problem here? There were many members of SS that never committed any crimes against humanity. But there are good reasons why the entire organization is considered criminal and membership alone makes anyone complicit.

But you can identify as a muslim or christian and follow a more liberal approach: take the parts of the religion that give you comfort, and deny the parts that are against feminist and equality values or against the freedom of other people. You can still ID as part of the religion if it benefits you in some way without harming anyone else!

@@Viking_Luchador The Old Testament isn’t Christian. The Old Testament (Judaic Bible), also known as the Torah was written by Moses (a jew) and it applied only to Jews. Moses mentioned that the messiah (Jesus) will arrive and complete the Bible with the New Testament (Christian Bible). But when Jesus came, Jews didn’t believe that he was the messiah Moses was talking about. So the Jews that believed that Jesus was the Jew messiah, got “independence” from Judaism, which denied Jesus and became “Christians”. The New Testament was written by Jews that believed that Jesus was the Jew messiah (Christians). So the New Testament was written by Christians, for Christians. That’s why in Christianity the Old Testament isn’t as important as the new one, and we don’t follow the rules of the Old Testament (not eating pork, polygamy etc...) because all of these rules applied to the jews. The Old Testament is both Christian and Jewish, since it exists in both religions. But only Jews view it as their book of law. In Christianity, the new one is the most important. Bottom line is, most religions can be violent and peaceful as expected for a collection of writings thousands of years old that share the same origin (Bible, Quran, Tora) . It does not help to cherry pick quotes in either direction, we have to judge everyone, as always, as an individual.

You can't judge everyone's perspective on a religion individually, because the doctrine itself is immutable and many quotes from those texts are not open to interpretation. If they say they believe in some of the principles in a religious text then that's fine because then they're admitting they are taking the parts that are meaningful are useful to them and leaving behind the bad stuff. But as soon as they say they are Muslim, Christan, etc they should be held accountable for every unsavory aspect of that religion because that is the belief system they support and proliferate. The unfortunate thing about religious people is that none of them can support the claims of their doctrine because pure fantasy can't be proven or supported. So they perform mental gymnastics by applying every fallacy in existence to keep them from realizing their God doesn't exist and their religion was founded to control people.

That's not a matter of opinion, that's a fact. They are not given the same rights, privileges, freedoms or opportunities Islam gives men. Hell, they're not even equal when it comes to worship. Islam does not allow women to enter and pray in Mosques alongside men for fear of "distracting men from prayer with their bodies". Women are forced to either pray at home or go to "female only" prayer zones, which barely any Mosques even have in the first place. it's disgusting. It's literal segregation. I have seen it myself when i met true Christians not just people born in a "christian country" but repented Christians, and wow there behaviour and views are beyond protective and really show that the worth of a woman is not in covering herself up from head to toe or showing herself naked on tiktok at 16 but in the middle way.

@Vicar Amelia Edit: Sorry I misread part of what you wrote but the general points still stand. Not sure I would go that far. You can't prepare and educate yourself fully on every single subject just on the off chance that in a private conversation the person you are talking to will bring it up. In a private setting such as that, I think it's okay to "shit talk" a little just as long as you don't start to extrapolate to the point where you are just straight up lying. And once the conversation reaches a point where you can no longer extrapolate then you should just admit that this is as far as your knowledge goes. If you are an interviewer, then yes absolutely do your reserach, but I would not hold her to the same standard if she was a podcaster holding a conversation. If the woman she is interviewing had come on Bobby Lee's podcast for example if he knew when she said something that was true or not then great, but I would hold him to the standard of knowing and researching, because it's a format that is supposed to be a private conversation that is recorded. But then there are other podcasts where I would expect that kinda research because the podcast host has set that precedence. Knowing what they are talking about and openly admitting when a topic comes up that they know nothing about and wasn't expecting to say so.

  • @dcworld4349

    @dcworld4349

    2 жыл бұрын

@Vicar Amelia the part I misread was " if you’re going to discuss with someone about a certain subject that you know in advance, you should educate yourself " But we mostly agree, the only reason why I accept that certain people to have an excuse to not do research is that I know even if they did. They wouldn't even know what information that they looked at was written by a credible source or someone trying to score political points. They are not people I tend to listen to often, but take the Bobby Lee or Rick Glassman podcast because that is just the best example I am able to come up with at the moment. The reason I've listened to maybe a dozen or so episodes if I was in the right mood is because they are just being their honest selves, sometimes talking about serious topics. But for the most part even the real life stuff that they talk about will eventually find it's way to a joke. To me their the reality tv of podcasts, I'm not going to take most of what they say seriously. Except for the times they have gone into talking about their personal history trauma. So while they would never have this women on their podcast because it's just not that kind of show. If they happened to have a muslim entertainer guest who would suddenly start to say some of these things. If they didn't challenge that guest on it because they didn't know. That to me would be like when your knowledge taps out, and they generally don't tend to be confrontational with their guests either. And I would understand not challenging if they don't know about it, out of fear of getting it wrong. I'm probably not explaining it the best way possible. But I get your argument. And in this video with how things are setup we are in 100% agreement that you don't have any excuse. Even if she does not have a team and does everything by herself, if she is trying to put forward what is and isn't right about how people look at that culture. It's important to get it right and not let someone give cult like answers.

We could convince more people to join the feminist movement without attacking their deeply held religious beliefs. I think her approach is much better than what a purely secular feminism could accomplish. I say this as an atheist feminist, I feel like islamic and christian feminist sisters can do much more good than I could, because they can connect much better with those who oppose feminism. Atheists feminists can only really hope to convert people out of their religions, which is easier in the west as religion is already weakening, but the goal of feminism is equality around the world, not just the west. Ive taken a christian approach with feminism, cause I see that it is more effective to convince christian women that god loves them equally to their husbands, than to flat out push them out of their faith.

There may actually be an advance in women's rights when Islam emerged (at least compared to what was there before), we can't forget the cultural context of it's emergence. There is no way any society will give up it's power over a group (here a patriarchy won't give up its power over women). Hence, the hadith and sharia evolved to maintain men's power.

It says that in heaven, men will be in the company of demure, chaste women--they won't look you in the eye (Surah 37.48). Yes, that seems like equality, doesn't it? And if you "fear disloyalty and ill conduct" from your wife, you can beat her "lightly" (Surah 4:32). Pre-emptive punishment, to keep her in line, is perfectly fine. You can't really claim that "almost all of X" have the same opinion without any evidence, so far you're saying that women shouldn't have the right to vote based on a woman saying something stupid. I can find a video of a man saying something stupid, would that be proof that men also don't deserve the right to vote? What do we do then, if no one can vote, go back to monarchy? For that she'd have to overcome that "my religion is infallible and true, because my holy book is the literal word of God" -mentality. I find religious people of all faiths who denounce that mentality consequently quite sociable.

To non-muslims, if you really want to know about islam, go and read the Quran. You don't have to believe in it, I just want people to know what really said in there which is very different from what you have been hearing I can promise you that. Don't go around asking people about islam, you will only hear from their point of view. What written in the quran is literally absolute, so don't even ask Muslims about what they think because their opinions doesn't count.

An ExMuslim here and I can confirm that Islam is most definitely not a feminist religion! Thanks for making this video, it honestly gives an insight to people who assume that Islam is an acceptable ideology. Its homophobic, violent and misogynistic. Only Muhammed’s wives are punished double by Allah for misbehaving, and must always stay in their houses. [As well as various other restrictions that apply ONLY to Muhammed’s wives in other Quran/Hadith] (Quran 33:30-33) A woman is worth one-half a man. 2:282 ; and males are to inherit twice that of females. 4:11 You can't have sex with married women, unless they are slaves obtained in war (with whom you may rape or do whatever you like). 4:24 A husband can accuse his wife of adultery with only one witness. 24:6 Men are in charge of women, because Allah made men to be better than women. Refuse to have sex with women from whom you fear rebellion, and scourge them. 4:34 There's so many more but I cant be bothered. Anyways. Islam taught me to hate my body, to view my boobs and ass as shameful. My hair was sexualised which I had to cover. But it failed to understand that men's hair can equally be attractive. It taught me to not laugh loud on the streets. I literally don't understand educated women who follow Islam blindly and when they try and debate you, they tell you to 'read the quran'

This girl is issuing her own fatwas that go against islamic teachings and jurisprudence. Islam is more about equity of genders rather than equality of genders and islam is not misogynistic or violent in its teachings but muslims can be but islam is against homosexuality so you got one thing right. 1. This is true but even the verse after that one says if they do good or commit a good deed they get double of rewards to. 2.The verse 282 from chapter 2 talk about a witness testimony regarding the contract of debt but this verse does not say women are half of men at all but only their testimony in certain cases are even in islamic law a man's testimony in a lot of cases is half of a women's to so does that mean men are also oppressed to? 3. Read from verse 1 chapter 24 to verse 10 chapter 24 do not cherry pick and ignore context all your're doing is spreading misnformation and why are you doing this? Read about the oath of lian the women has the same power as the man and she can defend her own chastity its even in the quran just couple of verses down of that verse that she states four times he is lying and in the fifth time she says may allah curse me if I am lying the man has to do the same thing to he's wife to if has accused her of adultery. 4. This verse does not even talk about sex so why are you lying again? corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp?chapter=4&verse=34#(4:34:1) This link takes you to the site that translates each word properly this verse does not say men are better then women but it says men are the protectors of women. The rest is your experience and the purpose of the hijab is to tell people you are muslim its what god had instructed you to do its not meant to sexualize you at all.

not available. Lol. Muslim feminists is an oxymoron. A feminist is someone who advocates equality of the sexes. Islam claims that men are a degree above women and are their guardians who can discipline them for being disobedient as prescribed by allah to protect them. An ideology that only allows multiple wives but not multiple husbands is sexist. An ideology which claims that men are the guardians of women (who can discipline them when they are disobedient) as prescribed by allah to protect them is sexist. It is no less offensive to me than an ideology which promotes white supremacy (but there is so much more about islam which is toxic other than the sexism). Google worst countries for women (almost all muslim) and best countries for women (none are muslim), google Gender Gap Index (it is about much more than wage equality), no muslim countries in the top 50, most of the worst 50 countries are muslim. It seems that secular teachings and man's laws are much more effective at protecting women than god's laws and teachings.. This couldn't possibly be so if allah was truly the all-knowing omnipotent creator of the world which he is purported to be. Women have been executed for being raped in muslim countries. Western women have been imprisoned for being raped in muslim countries. Every day girls and women are "honour killed" by their own families. The essence of islam is submission to it. Translated from Arabic, the word islam means submission and its ultimate goal is for the whole world to submit to it. Most muslims actually think that this will happen and do their part for the cause. The creator of the repulsive ignorance they worship and their role model was a sadistic, inbreeding, pedophile warlord. Islam inspires the most zealous devotion for the ignorance they worship spawning the most religious (deluded) followers who are by far the least peaceful and most ignorant people in comparison to people of all other beliefs. "What is the meaning of the word Islam? Praise be to Allaah. If you refer to Arabic language dictionaries you will find out that the meaning of the word Islam is: submission, humbling oneself, and obeying commands and heeding prohibitions without objection" islamqa.info/en/10446 Islam is much more of a virulent influence on people than any other religion and so many people who refuse to acknowledge this blatantly obvious fact are enabling its proliferation. Due to intolerance of people who don't submit to their ignorance in their countries and much higher birthrates (the world is overpopulated with human parasites and they are breeding to conquer the world) it is the the fastest growing belief in the world and due to mass migration it is growing much faster in the West and so many who aren't brainwashed by it are enabling its proliferation.

I find that people who want to hold on to their faith, even though they know deep down it’s false, become these sort of apologists and start making things up and cherry picking scriptures and historical events to support their claim. I did this for a long time as a Christian defending the bible which when taken literally is also oppressive to women, LGBT’s and other marginalised individuals. Finally I just had to contend with the truth about the bible and the violence it promotes and that is when I decided that it could not be the inerrant word of god. At least not a god I’d want to serve. So I did the right thing and rejected it as absolute truth. Just like she downplays the obvious oppressive and violent teachings of the Koran and other Islamic writings so do “progressive Christians” who continue to defend the bible.
