    @@michaelp4122 so does the cadi and camaro. I’ve been saying that for years. These cars that have absurd handling limits are flat out boring on public roads. You can’t take them to their handling limits. That 45mph off ramp that you think you’re pushing it at 65-75mph, will feel like a sunday drive in these cars. You have to take that corner at 85-90 to build up any sort of adrenaline rush, and that’s just too fast and too dangerous on public roads with other people around. You need a track to explore their limits. Which means yeah, they are boring on the street. All you can have fun with is a power. Most boring cars ever on public roads c7 grand sport and camaro ss 1le. Both handle like actual race cars, but they dont have the power to get any sort of rush accelerating.

    also the base 500 hp corvette c8 is faster to 60 than the c7 zr1 by 2 tenths of a second (2.9 to 3.1). The new zo6 has a claimed 2.5 second 0-60. The mid engine platform handles better and can do more things with less power

  • @JETZcorp

    @JETZcorp

    They were reaching diminishing returns. Acceleration out of a corner is the most important thing for pace, and Corvettes really haven't been able to improve at that very much at all for 10 years. The whole C7 generation was extremely frustrating to the engineers. They'd add power and it would become hard to control in the turns. So they add downforce and the increased drag just kills the extra power on the straights. The Corvette team asked GM to go mid-engine for the C7 generation, and were going to get it until the recession happened and they had to scale back. Now they get to build the car they wanted to build.

  • @thundrune1554

    @@genericallyaccepted corvettes have been mid engine since 1963 - facts. It’s gone from front mid engine with a 50/50 weight distribution to mid rear with 60/40. Currently the C8 handles like garbage (check out throttle house review or SavageGeese), but yes it’s quicker in a straight line. However, the current ring kings are the GT3 with the engine hanging off the back and the AMG Black Series which is mid front - facts. Of course in the current mid engine hyperbole neither of the afore mentioned should even be in the conversation never mind top of the heap. Don’t believe everything manufacturers marketing departments put out there. Just sayin.

  • @genericallyaccepted

    @genericallyaccepted

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@thundrune1554the traditional definition of mid engine was that the motor was behind the driver but in front of the rear axel. Definitions change over time but most will argue that point. So a front-mid engine falls under the umbrella term for front engine as opposed to mid engine. You can disagree if you want. the C8 has a 40/60 weight distribution and it doesn't handle like garbage, but reviews tend to say it does understeer more than expected, which makes sense because its not a track car and its also not a car that isn't in the realm of possible ownership for many people. A lot of the reviews praise its GT demeanor which is what most of the C8s on the road will do. Also, reviews on the 2022 model have said that it has already been sharpened in the handling department. No idea if that is true or not. But the Z06 and other performance models will be competitive against the RS and the likes. Obviously with enough engineering you can make any layout competitive, but FWD has the least potential. I think porsche keeps the 911 rear engine because of its heritage. Whenever they have built supercars, they choose the mid engine layout.

    They is a vid of them racing, but it was less than a mile. The demon won the 1st race, 2nd race c7 zr1 took it. It was all down to the transmission and weight on the wheels for grip. The demon was made for drags. This was made to race. So the C7 in all aspects is the best car america can offer in terms of taking on the competition. IF Daimler was to make a hellcat viper, viper has alot of potential thats not seen by its creators.

    Why the heck did you turn the traction control off? That's way too much rear end power to put your foot into in anything but a straight line! I swear I used to be young (not in your case) and dumb also and got sideways with many a muscle car in my earlier days. In fact I had a brand new two month old 1995 6-speed C4 and left a traffic light showing off on Sunset Blvd one night and went 90 degrees straight into a tree. I've never turned the traction control off since. I'm currently driving a 2019 7-speed Z07 equipped C7 Grand Sport and would never turn the TC off!! Having it on makes no difference in the performance as this Vette has a 1.2 G skid pad number and the HUGE Brembos. You have to be pretty out of control (which is pretty hard to do) before the TC light even comes on! I've seen it blink maybe once or twice. You were so out of control on some of the curves in this video I have to wonder about your driving skills! Your lap times would have been much better with the TC on!
