Thank you for putting together these amazing videos. I appreciate the time that you put into making these. I noticed that you also reviewed the Fiddlerman Soloist Violin. As you have played all three, how do these two Holstein (Traditional and Workshop) violins compare in overall quality to the Soloist violin as far as playability, sound, and feel? How would you rank the three violins?

You cant compare the Holsteins with the Soloist. The Soloist is the top of the Fiddlerman range - their sort of 'standard' violin range (for lack of a better word or description). The Holsteins are in a whole world of their own as they are more like replicas of much older violins from the great, well-known violin makers of their time. The set up, the wood, the craftsmanship.... The soloist is the top of their standard range and the Holsteins are more professional level with much more to them in terms of tone, sound, quality etc. They have a far greater range and depth and colour to them.

👏 Is it just I, or has anyone else noticed that the high-end violins come only with one fine tuner: the E string. 😖 BTW: Alison, you play the violin like I play the diatonic harmonica and concertina - with “feeling, phrasing, vibrato (note-bending) and all that good stuff.” Incidentally, that's why I decided to learn to play the violin with such passion many moons ago. All three instruments complement each other so nicely. Happy holidays! 😊 🎻 ♫

Christopher Tsiliacos the beginner violins have all 4 tuners because it is easier for someone still learning how to tune it properly. As you progress you can become better and tune without them. However the e-string is really fine and hard to tune without a fine tuner. In addition I have seen some pros prefer to keep the fine tuner on the A-string as well.

I just went to hear 3 violins today to choose one to buy - 1 cheap and 2 more expensive and one just wawed me so I got empty wallet but I am wawed by the tone of that violin I got omg I got it half off bc is, second hand. Have a very nice French character. Is 150 yo violin that shocked me. Now I'm inspired to learn. I'll follow some, of your lessons too

I love the " de Geso " violins the best. Strad copies are great too. I bought a Musafia Enigma case for my Holstein Traditional de Geso Cannone.

You consider the cost of an eclectic piano from a top manufacture with peddles, you expect to still be functioning 20 years from now, the price is comparable to these violins. I really cant tell the difference in sound or the difference in sound even from the cheaper Fiddleman branded violins. I suspect technique, player skill,, setup, strings make a bigger difference in the sound.

Just wanna ask if does these holstein "cannone" violins have sound similarities between Guarneri del Gesu's "Cannone" violin?

Thats a good question and I personally dont know - I would ask that question to the Fiddlerman himself as I have only reviewed these ones.

They're both replicas of that violin (according to the descriptions on the Fiddlershop website)

I hear most of the difference on the A and E strings. The tone of the Traditional Cannon on those two strings is more strident -- especially in higher positions.

They have both god D and G projection ,but u need to see them in lorg terms they need to work on them so u can open the sound even better and every individual has his own sound ,,u sound great for this is hard on people to different ur sound on the 2 violins , but as much they worth the violins seems pretty i teresting..

Interesting.. you played just as well on the less expensive violin.. I think anyone below you’re level of expertise would probably pick the less expensive traditional. It sounds like a chunk of what the $700 goes to is more coats of varnish..

I don’t agree - as I think I provided perspective. However, i also played unaccompanied anyway, so you can still hear and identify the tone differences.
