Why do we make these comparison videos?
We know that purchasing a string instrument is a big decision, and every instrument is unique. Since you might not live nearby, or be able to play the instrument (yet) we're here to play them for you and let you hear the ACTUAL instrument you will receive.
We make these videos for instruments at the Master level and higher, and request that it be used for serious inquiries only since they are very labor intensive. To have one made with some of the instruments you are considering, contact us: Email: support@fiddlershop.com, or Phone: 800-595-0592.

I wonder if anyone made a copy of Lionel Tertis' Viola that was like 17 and 3/4 inches with extra wide lower bouts. Would it be difficult to play such an instrument?

Is there any way we can identify the pattern of an instrument, meaning their physical properties, on sight? Does a Strad look different to the eye from a Guinari ?

Different makers will go to different lengths to accurately replicate their Strad and Guarneri models but probably the most reliable way across brands is to compare the f-holes. Guarneri f-holes will almost always be longer and perhaps slightly more angular.

So Ming Jiang Zhu violins are usually very dark, so pretty hard to the left side, (probably even left of Lord Wilton) and then Vertically kind of depends on the model number (903 is sometimes very broad, and 909 is more focused) So 909 might be close to the Cannone on the graph.
