Other than that, the questions were often meandering, twisting and turning and repetitive either to confound him or to catch him unwittingly saying something different - in the interest of clarity or unambiguity. Of course, he has to be reminded now and then that he is speaking under oath and it's an offence and punishable for not telling the truth. That will surely put fear into anyone facing the panel. Let's wait for the Singh to appear and see how he perform - surely the panel will leave it as the grand finale - the ultimate nail.

Difficulties in recalling the simplest of events and simple questions - Faisal Manap was working the night off trying to memorise scripted answers and sequence of events. Edwin tong masterfully tore through his scripts. It all concluded with Edwin getting Faisal to agree, that he was behaving illogically as a senior leadership by not stepping up to right a wrong despite being completely aware of it. And that Faisal Manap have had privy knowledge to Khan’s lie from the onset, but he alleged that he did not discuss/comment/advise/communicate on ANYTHING to ANYONE for a good 3+ months, and nothing commented/discussed when he further heard that Khan continued to lie on Oct parliamentary.

That is the purpose of this COP. To find out why as a MP, having known a fact that the integrity of SPF, for which he is supposed to uphold, is keeping quiet and allowed the allegation to go on for 3 months. Even a commoner who knows a fact to a crime could also blow the whistle, let alone as a MP. Sympathy could be granted to RK for her ordeal but time MUST be set for her to come clean and definitely NOT 3 months which is dragging the integrity of SPF. I do not think anyone from SPF would appreciate this. Try explaining to SPF. This is a gross mis-management of the whole episode.

A layman reader's observation and thoughts : Lawyers or inquisitors seem to be trained to repeat questions or same thing again and again, and yet again, in different words or nuances in quick succession --- in other words to beat about the bush or opportunistic trolling - so that something may turn up eventually or opportunistically! And of course to paraphase or reword what has been said to the inquisitor's satisfaction (you mean, it was not pure white but a little off-white, isn't it?). It can easily confound the witness or interviewee - and most exasperating to the most patient audience watching in the court gallery, or the CoP in this case. The witness can easily get tired or "caught" unwittingly swaying into something different. A shrewd lawyer easily latch on it, and keeping hammering on it. So other than asking "when did you stop beating your wife?" rather than "did you beat your wife?'. It may go something like this : Did you drink the water? (No!). Did you at any time sip the water? (No!) Did you see some liquid in the glass? (Can't remember). Was there any thoughts in your mind to drink the water, any at all ? (can't remember). Was the glass transparent? (Yes). Was the glass clean or dirty? .... An alert and unnervous witness is best to ask questions in return to make the inquisitors just as exasperated : Can you repeat your question? (sure...), Can you speaker louder (or softer, less aggressive?) Can you make your questions easier for understanding? Can you be more direct in your questioning? (sure...), Can you speak in simpler terms or in English (or in Malay, Tamil, Mandarin, etc)... If all things fail, just make a simple request: "I wish to go to the toilet! It's urgent!" : )

I dont think you understand how the legal system works.... heard of the LSAT (law school admissions test)? Lawyers are trained in logical reasoning, critical thinking, objective questioning etc... Despite the frustratingly painful to listen to performance of MP faisal, edwin is merely questioning faisal to establishing the plausibilities and possibilities of the surrounding situation behind WP's knowledge of the matter and their subsequent course of action or inaction around RK's lie to determine reasonable culpibility. Its just like how frustrating it is when reading WP supporters' commments online after you get past the blatant fake profiles and fake names, and deciding if the entity on the other end of the keyboard is a troll or is it the brain, reasoning ability, and general knowledge of how govt works, is weak. Im always biased to the latter.

The comments are so far mild, his cognitive appreciation of this process is darn SHALLOW, I would not hesitate to say he also has weak command of English, using phrasal words but unable to apply it conjunctively, so failing his understanding of many of the words, contextually.. It's not our prerogative to say how the WP selects or appoints its leaders, however, it must never be empty of the understanding that it must do due diligence, in establishing some system of criteria for roles and to hold office positions, to assure the constituents it can function and professionally discharge all the responsibilities it purports to serve its constituents. In light of this, its leaders must therefore be more than able to articulate or proposition needs and concerns of its constituents in Parliament, if not only to further the legitimacy of an Opposition presence in Singapore's Parliament. This so-called "wayang" has been coined by many of the informed public, but from the testimonies of other WP members, which now has been proven that it wasn't vindictive, as many people has made it out to be. Edwin's adept questioning has brought out relevancy and some complicity of the WP leadership has in the impugned integrity as a Parliamentarian, which now includes several WP leadership members, and their direct roles in maintaining and ultimately lead to an extended tenure of Raeesah's lie to Parliament. Shamefully, it is now veering into a clownish expose, or should I say moronic "I will not answer that question" show of lack of qualified substance in the WP stable.. Not wayang anymore, the fish is out of water and flapping... Mr Faisal shouldn't be re-instated as a Parliamentarian , enough drama.

SINGAPORE - Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has sounded a warning that Cabinet ministers are not paid enough and that down the road, Singapore will be confronted with the problem of getting competent people to join the Government. Speaking at a dialogue with South East District residents last week, he disclosed that MP Edwin Tong, a lawyer, took a 75 per cent pay cut when he became a senior minister of state on July 1. Mr Tong had previously earned more than $2 million a year as a senior counsel and now makes about $500,000, Mr Goh said.

It is really worrying whenever I see members of the parliament having so much difficulty in speaking. Not just Faisal but Don Wee too. But that aside, Faisal agreed on all logical and reasonableness the series of things that should have occurred but didn’t because he trusted Pritam. He has more concern over the comments they received on a parliamentary speech that affected the Muslim community than a lie that affected the police and sexual assault victims. And as a leader, he has trouble seeing the conflict of interest and how not disclosing the leader’s involvement since Aug has a significant impact in the outcome. It’s even more worrying that that his logic is warped.

@@appl2597 the COP already mention so many times "to the best of your knowledge", "in your perspective". The COP is not asking the absolute truth but what he observed. And like the previous comment say, he could have just answered "i dont know" you can simply compare his actions to that of loh peying and nathan. Both of them are younger and less experience in public speaking than faisal, yet they show more maturity and logical thinking than him

"Is it the same for other issues that you don't need to clarify and don't need to ask? Just hand everything to Mr. Pritam Singh?" "Yes!" You have your own duties but seems like you are not doing them, Mr. Faisal. This dude just doesn't have much a say in the WP. He is not trained as a lawyer who could twist and turn with words, and use verbose synonyms and double negatives to confound the witness or stun them. Lawyers are able to wriggle or drill a square peg into a round hole. He will be an underdog in a court tussle - with the judge or chairman constantly reminding you or threatening you about the oath you took. Yes, he could have just said I have no answer to that question.

Edwin Tong is too damn arrogant. His way of questioning is bordering on harassment and threatening.. Faisal Manap is totally being extra cautious when answering people like him as the panel which is made up of majority of the ruling party will definitely be trying to direct their questioning to suit their way of thinking.. not everyone reacts and feels the sane way given the same situation.I totally understand why and how the 3 WP leaders react the way they did.. it’s RK who was sneaky and cunning to catch them by surprise with her sequence of admissions to the party leaders.. she’s a serial liar!!

What is the objective here? Are we using too much resource, time and $$ on this matter? Is there a timeline where the committee can share with the public since they have allowed the public to view and listen to the hearing? We do not want to pay our minister and our MP for any political driven agenda. Neither do we want any misinformed evidence to continue this saga. We have more important things to handle like COVID-19 restrictions, measures, plans to open economy, plans to return to workplace, helping the tourism sector, helping the intellectual disabled under this global pandemic, plans to recover supply chain disruption and many more.
