This is really a major turn-off. ET is like some prejudiced higher authority trying to get the “school kid” to crumble and admit something he did not do. This whole thing is just so painful to watch. Is this grilling even necessary. Did PS get into politics for this? A man of great talents and principle like Pritam Singh should be in a ministerial role right now strategizing and planning for Singapore’s future and not be grilled like that by a low-level grunt sent by the government to poke the Leader of opposition in such an ungentlemanly way

@@joonywastaken I had an similar question on biasedness, but my post wasnt publish when what I said are all hitting on the nails. i am re-posting here as every SG public deserve to make fair and justified view of this "blown-out-of-proportion" incident, the CoP composition needs to be re-vamped and they shouldnt be the direct inquirer nor influence how the neutral inquirer wants to inquire and form a summary of finding, and neutral inquirer need to be fair and cover all possible outcomes and take the recording at original text and not speculation with own biased opinioned. My original post, re-posted here: "the whole inquiry proceeding is wrong in the 1st place n need to be voided as there is Conflict of Interest (COI) in PAP mp or even govt civil servants inquirying on Opposition members..m surprised a witch hunt style like in anicent China Dynasty jail interrogation drama can exist in modern SG. What if PAP mp was caught telling lies, wud it b right or perceived as without conflicts for CoP to b the inquiry committee of own pple? of cos not!! I wud expect them to step forward at the start to declare that there is possible and perceived Conflict of Interest (COI) and thereby abstain from standing in the inquiry committee and instead effort be made by CoP to find parties totally neutral and without affiliation from/with any camps to sit as inquiry committee:. since the whole inquiry is full of faults..the whole process's credibility is in serious compromised due to COI and need to be voided and all evidence collected r also similarly corrupted (as preceived biased) and need to b voided from being used as evidence.. esp. when gathered through constant speculations from the inquirers..and constant para- and re-phrasing to support a loopsided approach (instead of using the original text n maintaining neutral and just plain inquiry and plain recording without speculations).. which clearly seen as coming from a biased loopsided conclusion at the back of the inquirers' mind.. as constrast to an approach that covers both sides or in fact all/any angles of possible outcomes... the %tage of time spent on the inquiries on the one loopsided approach is proof of the biasedness.. further proof of biasedness is that the same question by one enquirer keeps repeating repeatedly like a broken tape recorder.. even when another earlier enquirier had already cover the witness's reply on the same subject question.. all shame to the "repeating broken tape recorder" inquirer.. also the Chair did not at any time step in to stop the loopsided apporach nor the waste of time on broken recording enquiries. After hearing the reversed side of the version.. to proof that they r not biased.. can we expect the inquirers to push the opposite side for the 2nd version against the 1st version? i.e., the SAME thoroughness tat the 2nd version can also b the truth to challenge the 1st version with SAME rigours.. is and can CoP b seen as really unbiased? unless they give the same amt of time to proof 2nd version is possible.. all SG eyes going take CoP to task on the reverse roti parta if they r indeed unbiased.. their role as PAP mp making it vy vy murky, otherwise!!!

​@@justanut Maybe he "dissociated" himself also as he feels "not his problem". I thought Tan Chuan Jin's line of questioning was more reasonable. The lack of follow-up (assuming the WP3 indeed had not told her to take the lie to the grave) by the senior leadership is incompetent leadership, which is for the electorate to pass judgement on and not the Committee. Of course, all these is pending the evidence which remains to be heard.

i have followed this whole court proceeding with every person thats up for questioning... i am taking so much notes , next time i argue with my wife i think i will win!

ET's persistent attack on P S revealed another fact which is detrimental to the interests of RK. She is suffering from dissociation.

What evidence does the WP has to prosecute her when she confessed to them. The only evidence that Raseah khan is lying is her own words. If WP try to turn her to the police she can say: no I did not say I lied, then what? Remember this one is a liar. She can confessed that she lied, but she can also lied about not confessing that she lied. It is only rationale to tell her, if u really lied, go and confess to the police. Now she is trying to use her lies to take the party down.

Her lying does not take away the fact that PS failed as a leader of opposition and did not provide guidance to an MP in his party that has failed to do the right thing again and again, over more than two months. The party has to be “taken down” with her because nobody has intervened despite knowing the truth, which alludes to collusion.

Based on Mr Faisal and PS evidence in COP, it is clear at least in early August in PS House, nobody said to take the lie to the grave. Due to sensitivity of issue and Raeesha state of mind, this lie would be discussed and settle later. Raeesha take it that it is for her to continue lying. Then started the mother of another big lie which in her own words " Hey guys.... take this to the grave " Who would be so stupid to articulate this other than Raeesha herself... haha... check mate.

the KEY word i take away from this session: RELEVANT or NOT-RELEVANT? it is a question...

ET has been trying to force words (stealthily or blatantly) into the mouths of previous interviewees like Manap and im glad PS is finally NOT allowing him to do that. Simple answer. Vivian is a PAP member and the COP consists of PAP members. But Pritam and the rest are oppositions and PAP lost Aljunied and sengkang GRC and PAP are trying to find reasons to discredit WP now so that people vote for PAP in the future. It’s call cheap politics.

It sounds like that because both are equal severity of crimes. Colluding, helping a person along a lie in parliament is extremely serious especially because the lie involved sowing discord in a government body of the SPF. It sounds like not taking action against a lie is a bigger sin because Mr Singh is the leader of the opposition, and should be held to a different caliber than a mere greenhorn MP like Miss Khan.

@Ops Blac Yes, she’s an adult. Yes, she’s an MP who has taken an oath. But is she under WP? Yes. Is she under Mr Singh’s jurisdiction? Yes? Does she represent WP as an MP, therefore her actions directly correlate with WP? Yes. It is the same as when a PAP MP screws up, people blame PM Lee because rightfully they are under his jurisdiction. Now it isn’t about whether RK has lied, or whether PS has lied. It’s about the lack of accountability from PS as the LO, even when his member has repeatedly proven that she is incapable of telling the truth after months of time given to her. These months of time has caused SPF officers to spend wasted time and resources, of course it has to be taken seriously, irregardless if she has resigned or not. Do you really think that Mr Singh could NOT do anything as the LO? And could only let her decide since she’s an adult? Btw, RK only admitted to lying. However her account has opened up new things which require to be explained, which is that none of the leaders stepped in to intervene despite knowing her lie and also apparently asking her to continue lying unless she is probed. Therefore the case is definitely not closed and not just a political thing.

Claimed to have no agenda when ET was confrontational throughout. This might be more than about RS. Could be a set up to make the whole of WP to collapse. ET is no fight for PS though.

In order to commit a crime there must be a motive to benefit oneself. How does encouraging Ms khan to lie benefit the WP? So, to all the "smart" people out there... what's the motive?

I agree with Cayote Lives. This is not a court trial, this is about fact finding and ET's line of questioning is a joke.

For 3 months the PAP did not ask Pritam in parliament if Ms Khan lied. That would have forced Pritam to tell the truth and Ms Khan would have resigned much earlier. They didn't do that only because they wanted to drag this out as long as possible to smear the WP. This could have ended much sooner had the PAP wanted to. They did not.

When you go on a fishing expedition and you cannot catch any fish, you must know when it's time to go home.

What should happen next is obvious. Subject Ms Khan to a psychological examination. Recall her back to substantiate her "take the matter to the grave" statement as that's disputed by all 3 of the WP leadership. Anything less will cast the PAP in a bad light.

Mr Edwin Tong, and chairman. PS has mentioned repeatedly that the purpose of the DP was to assess the conduct of RK repeatedly lying - that conduct - despite having full knowledge that what she said was a lie. If, however, they were to disclose to the other WP members in the CEC that they had knowledge of the lie, wouldn't it bring about biaseness of their judgement on the matter of RK's conduct and her actions and dilute the focus of the DP proceedings? We should put this question to you and the members of the COP too. It seems strange that you spend so many more man-hours on Pritam Singh and the rest of the 2 other leaders but you seem to have put in disproportionately less hours to question the main subject of Indranee Rajah's complaint - who is Raeesah Khan herself.

Was Mr Edwin Tong expecting an MP to be like a kid to be guided by Party Senior Leadership even for a common sense .An MP should ensure when prepare his/her own speech which should contain only truth?What RK did was really unbecoming of an MP.

He is the speaker. The person being interrogated should be the one who complies and not interrupt. The speaker has every right to intervene and interrupt when the interrogated takes things out of context or is mincing his words.

How can it be PT message to RK not clear enough? RK is not a child. She is a MP and also a lawyer, she should know if there is a lie, it needs to be corrected without being told! Afterall what is the oath is about?

ET and PS are excellent lawyers. Watching this puts my perspective of "Suits" to shame. On a side note, I think PS has shot his own foot for applying for the DP and not coming clean with the CEC. PS: "I don't think it is relevant." ET & Chairman: "You don't think that it is relevant to inform the CEC that the party leadership knew about the lie?" @@fr0sty1983 he’s not the judge. The committee is the judge. Edwin’s job is to ask the questions as planned, and Pritam’s job is to answer the questions as it is without paraphrasing or drawing inconclusive conclusions that will not aid the committee.

@@fr0sty1983 Edwin drew those conclusions based on RK allegations. There are evidences and reliable witnesses from the very same WP substantiating that. Of course Edwin will have to ask the questions to PS based on the conclusions from the previous hearing. What do you perceive him to do instead? If in court you’re pressed for charges about murder, would the judge or committee ask you questions lightly?

Bravo to PS, ET is so good at what he does and you have survived it.

The whole COP enquiry has come to two crucial dates: 4 oct and 1 sept (two occasions where RK spoke in Parliament). Either 4 oct or 1 sep, once RK speak the truth, it will be a crisis situation to WP yet curiously, only on 1 sept RK confession speech did WP made herculean preparation while on 4 oct supposedly RK confession speech, nothing done prior. Pritam justified that since 4 oct may or may not be asked about the LIE (by Parliament), so nothing need to prepare (is Pritam playing dice with his party’s reputation?). When Malaysia threaten Singapore that the Water Tap may be closed, Did Singapore bet that since it is just a threat so no need to do anything? NO. Founder Lee Kuan Yew did all he could to ensure alternative Water Taps are available. This is the kind of Leader political party must have. Period.

Bad things happen under every leadership. Teh Cheang Wan embezzled $1 million and committed suicide under LKY. Nobody pinned the blame on LKY. How does it benefit Pritam and the WP for her to continue the lie? They wanted as much as the PAP for to truth to come out. That's why they are providing evidence in this COP.

Here we are arguing in the tiniest minutest details over a “lie” to show and display to the world what lofty high discipline is all about and extraordinarily meticulous we are and what micro honesty is all about using a range of the “highly qualified” taken away from their work, from whatever they should be meaningfully doing, spending huge public monies, spending long hours and days to pin down a “lie” and impress upon the world how extraordinary we are. Bravo! For Heaven’s sake, rebuke her, censure her, by all means! Put up a full page of reprimands! At this rate, that will be enough punishment to last her 3 lifetimes. i think it serves as a reminder that it would be very very highly super duper mafan to even consider lying in parliament.

After many months and watching this piece of shitty session, I still feel disgusted at how a political party can shamelessly used a fake front to meddle with another politcal party's affairs, just because they are the ruling party. This is as though telling the singapore ppl that they are unable to differentiate what is right or wrong and the ruling party are the only ones who can do so. If WP has not been honest, the singapore ppl should be allowed to decide themselves if they still want vote for them or not. We dun need a self righteous party to come in and tell us what is right or wrong when as a ruling party, they are full of flaws and shortcomings as any political parties in the world.

36:07 Watching COP Chairman TCJ now in sept 2023, I am glad that he is no longer House Speaker, we all know he resigned due to the hot mike and affair with another PAP MP. As a Speaker, he was notoriously unfair and biased towards opposition MPs, how can proper debate go on?

Because at the first meeting at PS home in early Aug, when PS, SL & FM tried to confront RK abt lying in parliament, they were taken aback when RK told them she lied bcos she was raped at 18yo. seeing that she was crying non stop, distraught and v emotional, the 3 of them did not press her, they gave her a lot of time and space, advised her to tell her family. They did what any decent person would do, be very careful not to provoke her, and they protected her privacy by not go around telling others. RK took advantage of their compassion and gentle handling, even to tell a new lies that they told her ‘to take it to the grave’. Cannot believe that PS (lawyer), & SL (lawyer & ex police woman), would be so stupid to WANT her to cover up the lie knowing that there are CCTVs and so many witnesses at the police station, and the serious consequences of lying in parliament.

Very disappointed with Pritam flip flopping and abdicating responsibility as a WP Chief. It shows that if WP ever come into power, there are no consequences or penalties for irresponsible, dishonest behaviour. Cronyism will be rife under them. Pritam really got no backbone and no leadership qualities.

1) Mr Faisal, Vice Chairman of The WP, when asked what he did after finding out Raeesah lied in parliament said he left it entirely to Pritam because he trusted him. 2) Ms Sylvia Lim, WP's Chairman also said she left the matter to Pritam Singh to handle. 3) Mr Pritam Singh said it was Raeesah's responsibility to clarify the lie in parliament. 4) The impression I got as a member of the public watching the enquiry was that the WP's leaders were trying to Tai-Chi the hot potato to each other, instead of admitting they had mishandled the matter & taking responsibility for it, which would have earned the respect of the public, instead of trying to be evasive & denying any responsibility whatsoever...

It would suggest Miss Loh, Mr Nathan and Ms RK, to come out to reconfirm their statements. Should the statement is true and WP leadership rebutted that. Then the 3 of them should report this to police or Sue WP leadership for saying the statements is untrue.

There is a moment in this video where Tong goes, "Exactly". It's at 17m 15s. Listen to Tong's voice. It carries the tone of a finally satisfied man. Pritam Singh has just said "Because I am aware of what the truth is, and I acted in good faith." Friends, you can watch witness examination for hours and hours, but to get this moment. To explain, Singh sees no problem that his knowledge that Khan's anecdote is a lie, three months from Khan's final truthful revelation, is not disclosed to his Party, because to Singh, he never told Khan to lie thereafter. That, my friends, is to beg the question, for the issue the Party must determine is Khan's conduct as a whole, and that includes her response to what Singh told her to do. You cannot beg the question, as Singh has done, for if you do, your reasoning is circular. That it is plainly relevant for the Party to know this can also be seen in this way: if, as Singh says, Singh had told Khan to come clean, and Khan disobeyed Singh by lying once more, that is an aggravating factor for the Party to consider.

I don't get why ET alleges that PS not pointing out RK was forced to tell her leaders on 8 Aug is a mitigating factor... She continued to lie whether she told her leaders or not!? How is that mitigating? This man ET just wants to say that PS covered up the truth so he can slam him that he is dishonest and drive a rift between him and the WP members. Wether u like WP or not - let's just be clear that this is a politically charged "trial" - nothing to do with figuring truths or whatever

Mr Tan Chuan-Jin should step up in his role as Chairman. Mr Singh was obviously beating around the bush, not answering the questions directly and paraphrasing Mr Tong's questions repeatedly, causing unnecessary delay to the proceedings.

I'm disgusted, not only has he shown disrespect and I'm sure he will to anybody, is this person's boorish nature. Coupled with his legal training and exposure, he's intent to run conundrums around words and his pedantic approach to answer questions, is absolute proof. "I already answered that in different ways". The simple plain words and meaning that Edwin used has no intention to mislead nor has any accusatory intention. And Edwin has been very courteous, which Pritam is very much aware, which he continues to play to the gallery, because he knows he's being watched. Complicitly, he formed the DP (made up of the SAME persons, that Raeesah had confided 3 months earlier, sought their counsel, enquire their advice and guidance, to hear Raeesah's lie and Pritam KNOWS it). Carefully, he remains, disagreeing, dissuading, and tip-toeing around 'her' conduct, re-authoring the testimony of his members, feigning some degree of implicit knowledge, now that he's on the stand. He's also, in his determination, didn't feel it wasn't necessary to tell the CEC about the prior knowledge, and his insistence that 'some' members is hearing groundswell that Raeesah's story has something more than meets the eye, and so they revealed this prior knowledge at their press conference, is whitewash. His remaining adamant to the point that he contends that Raeesah's conduct is the only concern, and his knowledge of that lie, even with 3 months prior knowledge, is NOT relevant to the DP's formation and their functional intent, does not hold water. All said, this is a leaking story. Not surprised, he will definitely be in discord with the findings and recommendations of the COP.

Pritam may not be a liar. He is just very clueless. As a leader, he didn’t know what to do with a lie or clarify. He doesn’t know what his MPs real motives are. From this exchange between PS and ET, I understood better the poker concept of "telling a consistent story" in your betting. The following events that happened 1) Every thing that RK and her 2 assistants did and say, 2) the lack of responses by the 3 members of the DP towards the lie for so many months, 3)that PS did not tell anyone else, 4) the text "PS What should I do?", that RK sent in the middle of Shanmugam drilling. 5) that PS did not first tell her "“Why didn’t you tell the truth? We had an understanding right? Come on, own up.” 6) did not reveal the possible conflict of interest to the WP CEC were all consistent with the story "The 3 members of the DP instructed RK that she has no need to clarify the lie if the matter was not brought up again". That was Edwin Tong's main point. But PS disagreed and tried to offer another possible explanation, where PS wanted her to take "clear responsibility for her lie". But that explanation is simply not consistent with all the events that happened after that.

If that’s the case, then you are making the same mistake as Edwin Tong, where you both conveniently select specific anecdotes from the comprehensive list of evidence, then proceed to interpret them in a rudimentary fashion without considering the context. Context, which most lawyers and justice workers would know, is of critical importance in assessing the intent and nature of any action/message. Addressing your point 2; lack of response by the 3 senior WP members for 2 months (2 isn’t many by any definition), Pritam made it explicitly clear that after RK’s confession in August, she was to “address the issue” and at the very least, inform her parents. This information is important because RK’s lie is tied to her personal private experience as a sexual assault victim, and it is only her experience to share. Given that this is a personal matter, and the severity of her lie was still rather small during this period, is it unfair for a senior colleague and team leader to give her the space she needs to correct her mistake? You may potentially repeat some fools who keep saying “a lie is a lie”, and believe that everyone should have came clean IMMEDIATELY after knowing about the lie, but let’s be real here. Politicians lie all the time (even PAP in parliament), and often these small lies of personal recounts don’t amount to much in record. The severity of RK’s lie was essentially similar to those, with the exception now being that MHA had chosen to follow up on it thus making it much more severe. Pritam didn’t know this, no one knew this, until the 4th of October parliamentary sitting. So the urgency to actually correct her mistake only intensified after 4th Oct, subsequently which Pritam did press RK to take responsibility. He also made it clear on 3rd Oct that she should take responsibility if the matter were to rise in parliament the next day, which is not only a definitive direction, but also an indirect timeframe. So Pritam did “do something”, but the urgency of which he did is obviously not satisfactory to the PAP and COM. Why his lack of urgency is understandable and fair, given the context, will be explained by my next para. Addressing your point 5 about Pritam not being technically clear and straightforward (or blunt, in this case) with RK immediately after her confession in Aug, well what would you rather he have done? We can be speculative and identify all the better steps that could have been taken in hindsight, but in that moment and context Pritam still had the role of a leader and senior to play in caring for a colleague who has made herself vulnerable. Let’s put ourselves in Pritam’s position in Aug. Assuming that we don’t know how severe the lie would eventually get, and RK explained that her lie is related to a personal sexual assault experience; would it be better to giver her some space so that she can correct her actions in a more “comfortable” manner, or just straight up tell her that “we don’t care, you lied and you need to own up to it NOW”? Again be reminded of the context: not caring about a sexual assault victim’s personal rights VS Correcting a lie said in parliament which is relatively small, of which its severity and relevance to subsequent parliamentary sessions is not known yet. Now don’t misinterpret me and accuse me of saying integrity is not that important, or that it’s okay to lie as long as you own up to it. No. Everything RK did was wrong, and I’m sure no one would dispute that. But Pritam’s handling of her case was influenced by social factors that are far heavier than PAP playing them to be, and ultimately he did tell RK to own up to her mistake before she lied a 2nd time. If you still feel so strongly about how this lie was handled by WP, then I encourage you to exercise the same passion for all the times PAP has lied to the public or covered up their mistakes. Mind you, Vivian Balakrishnan’s false statement in June regarding TraceTogether has a far far far greater implication than a mere personal, vague recount of making a police report.

Raeesah Khan is complicated. Thus came her lie. Pritam Singh is equally complicated. Thus came two different versions about why WP did not help to unfold her lie - One by him while the other one from Raeesah Khan. Sylvia Lim is not lesser complicated then the above two. Thus came her coordination with Pritam Singh on his version. Faisal Manap is the least complicated as he has a heart for assault victims. Thus came his version that he did not question Raeesah Khan on 8 Aug 2021 in Pritam Singh house. Raeesah Khan left the house with Pritam Singh walking her to his main door. The other two WP complicated leaders remained behind. According to Sylvia Lim version, she said the three of them did not talk about Raesaah Khan lie but they focused more on the other two topics that had caused disturbances to the Muslim community. We have two guesses here. First one was they could not care more about the lie; they thought it was ok to lie. Well, it was just a small matter & confidentiality is a serious matter, so perhaps the Parliament would let it go. Second one was her other two topics were more serious because the Muslim community was getting very upset but the Parliament was ok, peaceful. So it was ok to cover up the lie & did not need to do anything as long as no one would bring up her allegation. Thus, it seems like they could have high confidence in their own judgement towards Raeesah Khan allegation. On the other hand, if they are very seasoned politicians with integrity, they would have discussed seriously on the correct steps to help Raeesah Khan to apologize to the party, gain back her respect & also to prevent their party reputation to be tarnished if any parliamentarian was to question her again. They did not predict the possible consequences & so they kan-rang-ka-bo when Law Minister Shanmugan declared that the Home Team would not rest her case (the allegation) until the truth came out. Oppsss...Thus they scurried to discuss & plan on what their (former) youngest MP should say at the next Parliament. Nevertheless, they did not anticipate that the Privileges committee would be waiting for Raeesah Khan. Their heads must have gone really big at that time. If only Pritam Singh had not instructed her simply to take up the ownership of her own problem & he would not be judging of her decision, it would be a different approach & consequence altogether. If he had told her to tell the truth that she lied & laid out all the bad consequences before her, we are sure she would be smart enough to realize that she had to admit to her lie in the party on 4 Oct 2021. Thus, the KEY TAKEAWAY of the whole saga is what & how did the three senior leaders instruct Raeesah Khan when they met together on 8 Aug 2021! If it was to tell the truth at the next earliest Parliament, Raeesah Khan would be ready to confess on 4 Oct 2021. If their instructions were to keep up with the lie, ah ha guess what? She did it very well all the way! Lied untill all the way! Lied until all of us felt dead worried for her sia. We think no minister & MP had dare to lie straight to Minister K Shanmugan & the Parliament so directly. LoL...no matter what will happen next, those who are complicated can continue to be complicated but do have the mind & heart to know the heavy consequences when one decides to accuse falsely with no real evidences.

@@gparamaeswary7276 well, I never said PS lied. I said when RK starts speaking the truth, this video is the what PS gets out of it. Can you now understand what does Pritam get for RK not divulging the truth? The avoidance of being part of this video. Got a feeling you won’t understand what I’m saying.
