This is he BEST video on drawing skin with Copic Markers. I had no idea using markers required layering. I paint with acrylic and they have many, many layers. Another thing markers and acrylics have in common is the "ugly stage" . I have some Copic Markers and did not have a good experience doing skin tones. After watching this video I am excited to try again. THANK YOU for sharing.

I'm glad he recognised that black lips are 2 different colors. good eye.. I found that out when i started.. just got myself a drawing tablet, doing digital now, only got 6 copic markers. can't do much with that.

@@cloudrf i would assume a blk person would recognize the color change in the lips since most blk lips are like that.

@@Neolithic_Rick I tried to do the color change in other respects, but it just ends up looking like lipstick in every other circumstance.

I use that “ugly stage” term too, like it’s that moment where you either believe in it or scrap it 😊
when you’re a minute into it and realize that it’s an hour long **watches the whole thing anyways**

HOw the hell does this only have 15k views?! You're absolutely amazing! I likeusing oils so I couldn't begin to imagine doing this myself!
I love this so much! Your style is really solid and lovely, and it’s so nice to see a KZread artist drawing something other than a pretty pale girl with colorful hair.....I mean drawing girls with pretty fancy hair is therapeutic & I’m guilty of doing it too much too lmao but seeing so much of it kinda dulls it out. Can’t wait to see you post again!
Oh my god. You definitely need more subscribers. Just watching you do this inspires me to use my copic makers even more, before I was afraid to use them because I didn’t exactly know how to color with it. I did not know it required layering. You just earned yourself a subscriber.😁
Amazing talent! Not gonna lie, brov. The Jazz really brings this video together.
This is very helpful! I struggle with where to put grey tones when layering markers, and I think I understand a bit better now. The ongoing explanation on why you are doing different things while you do them, along with mentioning stuff like when you're leaving the ink to dry, or why you used the warm grey in some areas, is immensely helpful.
You are an amazing teacher and artist! Thank you for patiently explaining every decision you're making. I'm really benefiting from your tips on artistry, technique, even showing us how to deal with mistakes and accidents as they happen! You're extremely gifted and I hope you continue to bless us with your talents.
The guy who just got drawn probably is honoured that this amazing talented guy just drew, coloured him.
I’m not sure why KZread recommended me a 2-year-old video, but I’m not complaining. ✨ I hope your channel continues to grow.
this is one of those impressive pieces that make you feel like for a moment you didn't know art could even be so great
This guy gives me the same vibes as Bob Ross, I don’t even use markers and I already feel more confident in art 💕
Came for the comment, stayed for the video. Well done!

Thanks for this, even if it is four years old. I do struggle sometimes with darker skins so I appreciate the tutorial
this is so amazing to see how close to realism you can achieve with markers. As a photorealistic pencil artist I've been really hung up on the idea that I'll have to stylise my work a lot more to be able to work with markers. But this is the perfect blend of realism and stylisation, it's still proportionate and doesn't look cartoony but you can tell it's artwork that someone drew, which is my goal! I feel so amped up and inspired, thank you so much!!!
This is so beautiful to watch you work with all of these colors. The results are stunning.
Thank you for making this video! It helped me a lot. I love how you draw it neatly and slow.
Your style is gorgeous omg! This was a very good explanation and watching the face take shape is incredible
You definitely deserve more subscriptions! You're an excellent teacher. Thank you for doing this for us! Btw, I know what you mean with the saturation problem. I thought I was the only one. I'm glad I'm not. It's hard planning shadows because the dark colors are so easy to get that waxy residue built up. Sometimes it happens in only two layers!

Thank you so much for going STEP by STEP! Exactly what I needed! And it looked amazing!
So far this is the best tutorial I have seen for skin! Thank you!
This video taught me so much about coloring skin tones. Your explanation of tone and color placement is amazing.
Thank you for talking us through your work. I appreciate your concise manner. As a previous watcher said, this video is super informative and therapeutic.
I watch this video multiple times a year. Just so cozy so soothing and there’s so much to learn from your process!
Both the drawing and the instruction are excellent. This is really the style of artwork I was hoping could be done with markers. Thanks for taking the time to create this.
Your an incredible artist! I love how this turned out 💜 keep up the good work !!!!
Really beautiful work!!! That highlight of the earring at the jaw was such a striking detail
watching this from start to finish really helps me feel confident in following through with the coloring in my own work. Seeing this turn out so damn well is gratifying . Great job , thanks for the walkthrough and not just a speed painting, makes a world of difference
Damn man, you're wonderfully talented. I really hope you continue making art & posting videos for us. Thanks so much for your time and advice. Seriously, much appreciated.
Really great video, very helpful. Beautiful work! I loved watching your creative process in real time. Thanks!
Omgsh, that is so beautiful! I'm so glad you did this in real time because I realize now that one of my issues is that I don't take my time with it. I learned so much from watching this. Thanks! 😊💛
Using this as a reference for what colors to get and how to layer. Awesome art! I appreciate you.
Great tutorial! Your tips as you go are so insightful, awesome process. 💛
this and your prior video are soooo helpful. Thank you so much! 💙
Thank you for giving me the courage to work with my copic markers and create my first marker portrait today. They have been sitting on my desk for over a year without any use. I watched your Coloring a Realistic Portrait video while at the gym and your voice is so soothing, it helped me breathe and control my asthma. I learned so much from you in just one and now two videos thank you so much. I am an instant fan
absolutely amazing. gotta keep uploading man
im completely blown away by your talent, like the blending man everything Youre really going in, I love it
simply amazing. So many tips on color of darker skin types...amazing
I love how you can watch a beautiful picture come together step by step. His voice also helps bring you into the zone of drawing

Insightful comment.
This is amazing. You really inspired me to start my art channel. Thank you so much for a well detailed beginner friendly video. Markers can definitely be a little scary to use but now I’m more confident to try. You really did a great job!!
Wow, amazing art. It's incredible how you color right over your sketch and then basically redraw it as you color. Very talented, I'm glad I found your channel.
Beautiful work! Thanks for the walk-through, and sharing!
ive been following your art for some time and had no idea you had a youtube channel, thanks so much for sharing your process with us!!
There was some really great pointers for working with copics in this video. Thank you for all the hard work.
i was kinda searching "best" alcohol markers portrait on youtube but i have not encountered one better than yours yet. so so far your works are the best alcohol markera portrait out there
you are so talented and this was so helpful! layering, blending, what to expect, color choice, plane changes, light source, shadows, etc. please make more tutorials!!
This is fantastic, thank you so much for making it. It's so hard to find a good tutorial for coloring DARK skin. Like, not just light brown or tanned. Plus you are an amazing artist so that helps.
I'm so relaxed while watching your video. Thank you for the great demonstration. You drew a truly beautiful man. I'm so impressed by your style. I love your use of hard edges and planes. I feel like I learned so much today. Really thank you!
WOWWW! your work is truly incredible. I've been using copics and promarkers to render skin tones for a while and I learned so much from watching this video. Thank you so much for sharing. Loved every second. Even the music was relaxing. :)
The amount of dedication to this piece is incredible! I appreciate these longer videos as they are a good way to learn how other artist's drawing process. Thank you!
this is really really really good stuff, exactly what i was looking for as far as this process goes
this drawing is amazing - you`re very talented! Thanks for showing your process as I too have difficulty with getting darker skin tones right. I think I`ve been too timid with layering - I appreciate that you showed the planar layers that you put down to get the shape to pop. Thanks for showing the *ugly stage* - I usually struggle there and my perfectionism flares... I appreciate your calm approach through the whole vid.
haven't been able to figure out the marker medium yet but loved watching you use it! brought out the depth of dark skin so nicely and i loved the contrast. beautiful work
This is so beautiful💕 Thank You for sharing💖
Beautifully drawn and coloured. It is such a difficult angle but you made the eyes look back at us. Great work. Thank you for sharing this with us.
This is exactly what I needed. It’s therapeutic to watch AND incredibly useful. 😌
How can you thumbs down this video?! I'm personally am glad you don't speed through your work process. Listening to you explain each choice really helps us with learning.
His calm, steading teaching method, I'm so grateful.
absolutely amazing to watch! Thank you!
This is surprisingly relaxing/therapeutic to watch. The music is really nice and the drawing is beautiful!
You're really good at explaining your thought process. Making it easy to understand and follow. I truly appreciate this tutorial bro. I'd like seeing how to make ice textures or maybe scales like texture for reptiles and amphibians.
incredible. definitely one to be watched multiple times. thank you!
I really love how it REAL TIME! So niccceee and absolutely beautiful 😍😍
The use of shading and highlighting to show light angles and skin tone is amazing. This is the best darker skin maker tute i have ever seen
Legendary work! This is inspiring me to practice w markers more
Thanks so much for this! I've been trying to get results in 2 or 3 layers! This makes so much sense.
I really enjoyed this. My gosh what talent!!
Excellent work! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your process. Between your skill, the soothing timbre of your voice and the awesome background music, it totally took away my marker art stresses and revealed so many "tricks" to try. Also, you're the first person to mention that "waxy" thing with the dark colors, so thanks for that too. I asked every "artist" I know who uses markers and none of them had experienced that before so I thought it was just something I did wrong (since I'm a beginner with alcohol markers).
As an artist myself and someone that's followed your work for quite awhile, this whole process is nothing short of unbelievably amazing.
Simply amazing work. I have been illustrating women of color for years now and appreciate learning these tips from you!
I know I’m late but it was so satisfying to watch him color the only 1 hour video I don’t skip is this and his voice is so soothing
Wow, nice work. I love the finished result. Thanks for sharing this awesome vid. 👍
I really love your art style. Keep at it.
Excellent work! Thanks for the tips!
INSTANT SUBSCRIBER! Your art is SO GOOD!!!! Better than I've ever seen using copics!! This is seriously super realistic which is hard to achieve. And it's even more inspiring to know that you are a fellow bro. Keep up the amazing work! God bless you!
Fantastic tutorial man, I found this super helpful. Thank you.
Excellent video for so many reason. The drawing is fantastic, but I especially loved how you were patient and emphasized to trust the process. That transcends any subject and any medium. 🤓✌🏼
Best copic marker drawing I've ever seen!!
You are truly a genius with Copic markers. I’ve only just started using them and there is a definite learning curve - you are so talented. I just happened on this video, and seeing the initial sketch and first layers, I was like - this will be some standard, pretty ordinary piece of work - so I sped the clip up to see the end result and WOW, I can’t believe the depth and realism you have achieved. You are a true talent. I will be watching the whole video now and trying to learn from you. SO AMAZING!!!
Wow I'm blown away by your skills! This was the best skin tone drawing I have seen with copics and I'm so glad you didn't speed it up and named the colors you used! Thank you so much!
You're incredibly talented. I have been interested in drawing realistically and this is really inspiring.
ur voice is mad soothing + the jazz + marker sounds is making me sleepy ngl LOL
Just got into markers, and this was an awesome breakdown. Thank you so much.
Love how this is a full real time video, very helpful. Drawing Odell Beckham and Cam Newton for my art this year gonna try out markers for the first time
This is amazing. First video of yours I’ve seen. 👏👏👏 I’ve been in an artist slump lately, and I think this video finally gave me that inspiration I needed. Thank you!🙂
I love your videos and found inspiration. You are my muse! I never used markers as a medium and I just bought a 320 set of Ohuhu alcohol markers! I notice you do not post very often and I wish you good health and happiness. Thank you for taking your time and carefully demonstrating your thought process with each brush stroke. Hope to see more videos in the future.
This is not only incredibly beautiful but very useful. Maybe because I learned drawing by observing myself and my family too I have had a lot of trouble with coloring black skin even with reference pictures, the colors always looked so off and I was so frustrated. This was really helpful and the transition from the sketch to the finished drawing is really mesmerizing
beautiful work. I love this so much. thank you for sharing. I'll definitely being adding some of these tips to my art skills.
You did an amazing job here young man, amazing! I love your voice, your technique, your patience, your explanations, your choice of music, etc.... You are very much the artist! Thank you for sharing with us! I became a Subscriber in the first 30 mins! God bless you Sir!
This is raw talent when it is best...omg you are amazing
love, love, love this tutorial. Excellent.
Fine, fine rendering. Beautiful young man. I love that you are so sure of yourself. I am so impressed and awed that I just don’t have enough words . . .
damn.... This is absolutely amazing!! I'll definitely try this method out! Thank you so much for sharing ^^
You are a master with copic markers. Fantastic work.
This was a therapeutic experience, love the vibes
