To those who dont know there is a behind the song story on this song. And in the music video when he is at his grave. That is the first time he had been to the grave since the funeral. So his family consoling him is very genuine.

This song breaks my heart and makes me think of all the things my grandma has missed in our lives… so many times I just wished she could be here. Such a great reaction. Being emotional is okay, it’s a human thing and no one should have to hold it in or feel as if they can’t express themselves. Awww I am so sorry about your dad. I think that’s just something that touches people and they never really get used to living without knowing their parent is on this earth somewhere.

My Dad passed away of a stroke. He was 70 years old. To children Dad is a name but in reality it is a job title. Some men live up to it and some don't. I miss my Dad more than I can ever say but I thank GOD for every day I had him and that I was blessed with a father who lived up to the job requirements. May GOD bless all the parents, grandparents, stepparents who have stepped up to the privilege and responsibility of raising children.

My Daddy passed away from stage 4 brain and lung cancer.. i am a Daddy's girl always was always will be even though he is gone he's always with me. A headstone that bears his name is cold comfort as he lies in cold silence under the sod i need him so much right now. I was diagnosed with breast cancer again after 13 yrs. of being in remission i got it again 7 months after my Daddy passed i took treatments for a few months i want to be with my family and the baby girl i lost in 1979 at the hands of other's, and my son i lost in 2017 to suicide i was scared but i am not anymore i will be with them soon and that gives me the strength to accept my fate. Awesome reaction Birdman.

I wish that he was here so he be able to give me away at my wedding, or when I have my first child but I know that my dad's always with me now and forever.

Love to you and care always I don’t know you in fact first Time watching you but sorrow sucks pain is a crazy emotion love is a strange thing to have taken away. But we all go through it. We should be here…for eachother. Sorry for the loss of your own father. Man I can’t imagine mines still here both parents are but I can relate to many other family losses. Old and young. It never gets better sometimes but have personally learned to only remind myself of the amazing honour we all have been to know those who really meant so much and how much they made you feel loved. Pass what they taught you on to your own son. Or who ever you know.. share their stories. And be Truely great full and overjoyed in your heart with the memories. All of them matter. Good or bad life has reasons. I’m sure you know his. He must have been an amazing person cause first impression already is your a good hard working man who’s suffered a loss. Is a great father no doubt and hope that you can always keep those memories strong and may they bring you some kinda of lift in your spirits. Cheers

He was talking to his dad on the phone, sharing the good news about his record deal. But then his dad was tragically killed. The emotion in the video is very real. The scene at the graveside was as real as it gets, he broke down right then and there ! The guys walking out to him, are his brothers. That was the first time he has been to the graveside since the funeral and he just lost it !! My dad passed away around the same time his dad did. This song gets me every single time, because I can feel his pain and my own!!! Thank you for doing “You Should Be Here”!!

Man I feel the same way; my dad passed away 3 months before my second daughter was born and this song hits me hard every time I hear it.... especially that second verse with the picture and smiling and freaking out, I can imagine his face. And I could feel him after she was born watching over both of us, and I still do to this day. He passed away June 3rd 2019, it's still hard like it seems surreal to me still. Anyway, excellent reaction I'll be watching more of you soon you soon.

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it hurts and a part of you I think dies right along and you will never be fully the same again. I lost my mom ..My mother's dad passed away as well a month before I was born..That's wild. He told my grandmother he wasn't going to make it and he knew he would never see me born and he didn't, he died a month before. He was only 44. Died of cancer. My mother never got over his death she missed him for 40 years until she died unexpectantly at 57...We all need to realize we aren't promised one more day never take anyone for granted things will change life never stays the same. If you have your loved one still with you tell them you love them today you may not have that chance again! Thank you for doing this video. I really liked it..God bless you and your family as well.

I know I'm late to this reaction, my dad's last wish was to see my son born, unfortunately I got the news when I was deployed and the American Red Cross tried to get me home in time. When I got back to the states he was already in a coma, I grabbed his hand and he squeezed my the next day he passed, this song resonates with me and him wanting to see your daughter be born, same here bro. My condolences! Everyone told me he was waiting for me to get home. He never seen my son born but like you said my dad was there. Thanks for this reaction it still hurts but your story really hit home with me. So thank you.

More to the story. That you had correct. Yes that phone call was to his father the day he signed with Warner. His dad is his biggest support loudest cheerer for Cole. The beginning with the two guys handing the keys are his brothers. This was filmed a bit after the funeral. "Taking to many pictures showing them off to everyone back home and some you don't know" is what his father would totally do. His father passed September 2nd 2013 before he could see Cole perform and get huge. The scene from the grave was his first time visiting it since the funeral and the part he broke down it was pure real emotion no acting. Cole is a sweet man! If you search "meaning behind you should be here" he gives an exclusive interview talking about it.

I lost my dad in 2017 because his lungs filled with liquid and he passed in his sleep. My mom passed in 2019 because she couldnt live without my dad any longer and she knew it was her time. The pain is hitting me currently and it has been for the last 2 hours, non stop crying. It doesn't get any easier but just knowing they are still with me in spirit and keeping me safe each day helps. I feel like I've let them down and they'd be disappointed in me for how my life is going right now but people keep telling me it's just a hard time in life and it will pass and that they can never be disappointed in who i am because i never let their memories fade away. EDIT: i know it's probably silly or even sad but if anyone has any words of encouragement or and advice for how to cope, since i was in a bad marriage when they passed and was kept from mourning properly, i would greatly appreciate any and all help. I want to make them proud and just need a little advice/help on what i could do to be a better person even though I'm doing the best that i can, at least that's what i believe.

Lost my Grandpa to ALS back in '98. Lost my dad to a heart attack in '99, the end of my sophomore year of high school. I tend to dedicate this song most often to my best friend from school, however, who at the tender age of 17 ended a four and a half year battle with Leukemia. Twenty years of you should be here's built up; two marriages, the births of my children, a trip to California that we'd always talked about going on after graduation (assuming she'd have beaten the cancer by then). I will see her again, but I still can't help wondering who she'd be today. Rest in peace, Missy. 3/15/83-12/27/00

This one kills me. I have to turn it off when it comes on the radio. My best friend went into EMS with me, we were Medics together and 2 years ago she lost her battle with PTSD. I had no idea in the world she was at that dark of a place that last time I talked to her....which was multiple times a day. You are right about the pain not ever going away you just learn a new 'normal' and how to live with it. I STILL find myself wanting to call and/text her with things. I grab a 6pk of beer and go sit in this quiet spot out on the lake on a half rotten & falling dock and just sit, talk to her, cry, listen to "our" playlist and drink a beer or 2, sharing one with her. You are right in saying the pain doesnt go away. I barely gets even a teeny bit easier. You just learn a new 'normal' to your life w/o them. You dont have to react to these 3 but when I get hit real real hard with emotions in missing her I listen to Dani & Lizzy "Dancing In The Sky" Luke Bryan "Drink A Beer" and Jason Crabb "I Sure Miss You." (The one by Jason Crabb is Christiam and religious based if that matters.)

When people say things like you just did, it lets me know they truly have dealt with the pain of losing someone they loved. You can't explain losing a parent...or a loved one. Someone has to experience in. That man gave me life...I wouldn't be here without him. He's my hero...still is. Worst day of my life. But also, I know he's better now...which makes it a little better. I just stumbled upon your videos mr. Birdman and i would definitely check out the song "brother - falling in reverse" it is the most emotional thing to someone who has lost someone well it hots me pretty hard because i lost my older brother back in the 2010 to suicide and he was my hero, my protector, the one i looked up too, my best friend, well he was my big brother.. Yeah we were 5 1/2 years apart and the song "brother by falling in reverse" its the most straightforward song for loss and your viewers would absolutely love to see the song and reaction of it! Thanks for your time my friend

It hurts like heck that if I ever get married our parents won't be there, they were good people. I want this song played for the Mom and groom dance as my sister and I dance.

Thank you so much, my friend. I am so so sorry for what your son goes through. But let me tell you something. Doctors don't decide when your son is going to die. God does. Doctors told my Dad he wouldn't make it past 1993. God told them they were wrong. He lived until 2017. Don't let them get that in your head. Just wake him up with a purpose. Make sure he stays positive, and give him something to do...something to wake up for. Have him set goals to make it to. High School Graduation...College graduation...etc. Thank you so much for the kind words about my reactions...but as far as courage goes, that all sits with you and your son. You guys are stronger than I could ever be. God Bless you both. Much love to you guys. If you need to chat, just let me know.

Hey birdman. I just wanted to say im so sorry for your loss. It's such a cliche thing to say, but I really am. My grandma was my best friend. She passed away before she had the chance to meet my husband. Our wedding day was amazing, but there was still this small voice in the back of my head repeatedly saying she should be there. I think she would have loved him just as i do, but it's still hard to know she never got to see me happy.
