A crisis is a terrible thing to waste.
Truth be told, we've already started on this intro last year, pre-pandemic, and it's not like we didn't make any progress on it, just... something wasn't clicking yet. The idea kept sitting at the back of our heads, gnawing away, and perhaps deep down we hoped we'd sit out a year and get the chance to show it at a "real" party, but it eventually became apparent that was not to be.
So we did it anyway.
From the very beginning we knew what we wanted after doing slow dramatic quasi-short-films about the world ending, what can we do that's the exact opposite? So we ended up going back to our roots. In many ways, making this intro brought back a lot of memories from the PG days, the collaboration, the squeezing of single bytes, the amount of content... And then took all of that, and cranked all of those things to proportions that were unprecedented for us until now, which is a fitting denouement to this generation of our 64k tech.
The only thing missing will be the catharsis in the hall. But we'll get there soon.

I know it's totally possible in 64k and this is what I was expected to 64k intros. and Conspiracy, you still are ruling the 64k scene, this is too well executed, I love its every moment. Easily my most favorite 64k of all time.

Legend has it that they channel their intros and demos from a parallel universe. Their main concern is not to make it look too suspicous... for now. The prophecies say that one day they'll make a 0k intro that will end the world as we know it...

You're only half-correct. They do indeed channel intros from parallel universe, but due to the laws of physics, energy must be conserved. So while our universe receives those wonderful and stunning demos, the parallel universe receives the bytes. So actually, this demo isn't 64k, but -64k, and every time it gets played, a small part of our world is lost. Now *THAT* is a true Conspiracy.

UNREAL.... I can't even imagine all the work that's gone into whatever the hell dark arts tools you've created to make this possible. But... tools without artists don't make art. Everything is so spot on... the color pallets, atmosphere, music, motion. Damn... Congrats!
As much as I thought I understood the computer science, the 64k demo scene keeps proving me total idiot... I can't even think about being able to just imagine how this is possible... And yet, there it is... Guys my imaginary hat is going all the way to my knees, this is outstanding, pretty much as all your other demos!!!
I just can't imagine what coding skills needed to generate so much procedural data in 64k... 😳

As usual, running the actual .exe is absolutely worth it, loving it. The grain filter is completely missing in video due to compression, and everything is generally too smooth in video. Though, there is zero AA when I run it, which sways it the other way around.
I'm back once again to say that this one of my favourite demos of all time. Easily the one I return to the most. I still get chills running down my back from 2:32 and onwards. Amazing work from an amazing group!

This being a big collection of tiny little separate scenes really reminds me of some of those long oldschool demos.
That renderer would rock not only in 64kb but the fact it's 64k intro makes it even more mindblowing!
I thought that after «When silence dims the stars above» nobody would be able to squeeze more from 64kb. But there IS more.
Fun fact: I've added this to my EDM playlist. (BG music for work.) I mean... the music part on its own is pretty neat. :D

I really like this change of pace. The ominous looming apocalypse is good in concept, but honestly isn't always visually exciting. This is some nice eyecandy though.

The ID of this video is something like "oeti nadehu". That HAS to be an insult in some language.
Demo like these make me disgusted at how bloated modern software development had become. When you consider the huge leaps and bounds in hardware performance over the years, yet the relative performance/speed doesn't reflect this. I believe developers have something to learn from the past. Keep up this amazing work!

There's some truth to that, but be conscious not to extrapolate too much - our intros have limited content and they only have to work on a limited set of machines with a certain minimum spec, and while they are tiny, they absolutely hammer all other system resources. Put it this way: Unpacked, this intro would be potentially up to the gigabytes in size, but it would load way quicker.

No. Just a solid, heartfelt, absolute "no." In their current form (and why would they change) NFTs are not only an absolute menace to the environment, but also nothing more than selling receipts causing a gold rush to trick starving artists to transfer wealth to the people running minting companies and rich art dealers treating "art" as a tradeable commodity. (Yeah, we know, Beeple got "rich" - but we're not Beeple. Know anyone else who got rich? Assume you're not that person.) The whole thing is morally objectionable. We don't do this to get rich or to make any money, really, and the idea that someone skims off the top of what we do sounds abhorrent.

Because we use executable compression; we're constantly trying to get false positives whitelisted, but it's a lot of work.

There's always "the operating system" whether that's AmigaOS or the C64 kernel; our approach is that as long as the most common version of the operating system (and of course drivers etc) are installed then that constitutes as part of the platform.

The music uses our own synth-based format, it is not a MOD and cannot be really converted to it without considerable loss of quality.

64 kilobytes is a very severe limitation, so these are packed as tightly as possible, stripping any and all non-essential data from the file, which trips up antivirus heuristics. This is normal. The file linked in the description is safe.

We're working on getting the false positives cleared up but it takes time for us to reach them all and get an actual analyst to take a look and whitelist the exe. It's a known issue with demoscene releases.

Welcome to anti-virus heuristics. Actual viruses go through a number of similar steps to reduce file size as much as possible, and anti-virus software errs on the safe side when it sees it. Unfortunate, annoying, but it's been like that for like two decades, and all this time demosceners have had to submit their works for whitelisting.

@@moozooh and the whitelisting process is becoming more and more convoluted. We're on it, the virustotal numbers are slowly dropping, but it'll take a while.
