this comment and the game announcement made my day ;) i just wish Square would use decent AI upscaling for the backgrounds. 0:24 is the best example for these washed out, blurry scalers. just look at what PC modders did with AI for the backgrounds in FF9 Moguri mod or FF7...

It's pretty awesome that Radical Dreamers is included! That was a Satellaview only game, so seeing it here is PERFECT for preserving games as it gives us a version that can potentially be physical (besides repro cartridges for the Satellaview version).

The only other time this has happened was the (Japan only) DS remake of the third fire emblem(the 2nd game that starred Marth). They had all of the Satellaview mini-maps/side stories as extras in the game.

@@mikeprado30 Look into the Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne remake, or the Final Fantasy 6 Steam Port(which was a barely altered version of the I.O.S. port) for an example of my concerns actually being correct. But now to actually _TELL_ you. _I've_ got nerves about it because: 1: this will probably be a full priced game like many other "remakes" 2: such "remakes" are often merely an upscaling of visual assets and maybe a soundtrack or font replacement, even if that means there will be unforseen drops in actual quality, such as a poorer new live performed composition in place of a very good digital soundtrack

Me too, one of my top all-time favorite JRPGs. My brother and I used to play this with our grandfather when we were kids. I still have the original copy, though it doesn't work anymore, and an extra copy on PS1 I bought to replay it. I'd kill for a physical copy, but it's likely we'll only get a digital version, as Square loves to do. I don't care, though. I'll forgive it if I have to, I'm just glad we're getting not just the game ported, but *remastered* (and thankfully, imo, not a full remake which I didn't want) and including Radical Dreamers. I wasn't into Radical Dreamers, and I never did actually play it myself (watched a little of it played online though), but I'm glad it's included just because it was the basis for the game and has a lot of neat elements that cross over.

@Doomsday Defense remember they did the same with other classic RPGs. You don't have to use the battle skip. The music is to good that an HD version is welcome.

@@OG509 there's over 20 different party members, most of them are not permanent inclusions and are only usable for certain sections. Usually you have a choice between a few different ones depending on your path through the game.

@@marciamakesmusic There are 40 playable characters, and if you go through the game three times and save at the right spot, you can have and keep all 40. Takes some doing though.

One of the games of my life.

When this was announced I really felt that we were going to get a Chrono Trigger remake announcement just after.

The second I saw the preview image, I screamed in a call. Absolutely amazing reveal!

In my 28 years of living. This was ALWAYS the best game ever made in my opinion. I've never played a game with such amazing music. I've beaten Chrono Cross over 15 times. It will forever have the biggest piece of my heart when it comes to games. I've been waiting for this for a very very very very very very long time.

This absolutely made my day. One of my favorite games ever made. By far one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. So thrilled we are getting a remaster!

I am replaying the PS1 version of this right now, its so good

I’ve always wanted to play this, can’t wait to play the remastered edition

I remember first seeing it announced in a game informer magazine. I fell in love with the colors and showed my mom. So on my birthday she got it for me. Instantly fell in love with it.

My favorite childhood game remastered!!!!!! cannot wait to jump back in

It's not quite as insane of a facelift as Saga Frontier's but this is great to see they did what they could especially having a fully translated Radical Dreamers included. I can only imagine something like Parasite Eve would require a flatout remake if they ever decided that was to be brought back. The pre-rendered backgrounds of Square games back then were beautiful.

Allegedly the rights to Parasite Eve expired and the author HATED the games so I doubt we’ll ever see a rerelease which, as someone who played it for the first time last year and loved it, really bums me out. I would love an HD Remaster/Remake of the original.

This was a wonderful surprise! Can't wait to play again.

So good to see Chrono Cross again after all these years! Used to watch my big bro play this game while in elementary;;; can't wait to dive back into El Nido again!

My grandpa owned a barber shop all through my childhood, and he had magazines on a rack for reading. He had PlayStation magazine, my favorite, but it was never really read because his clientele was older. So he would always take the demo discs out and give them to me, and then the magazines when they had been off the shelves for a bit. I remember Chrono Cross had a trailer non-playable demo on one, and I watched it at his house after school. I fell in love immediately with the imagery and I must have watched it 100 times. I made everyone I know watch it, and when it came out, I went to buy it first day. Stayed up all night playing on a school night and had to sneak in to the living room after getting scolded. Played it all night every night until I beat it. And then again, and again. This game absolutely defined part of who I am today and got me invested in RPGs. I couldn't be more excited about this. If my fiancée hadn't already bought a Switch, I'd have bought one just for this.

As FFVII (original) was being a big part of my childhood and even today, I always wanted to play this but sadly never got to Europe. I'm so glad it's finally here for us! It's going to be a blast!

@@starmancrusader Chrono Trigger is perfect the way it is. If they do anything, bring the game with the DS version content added and leave it at that, or add it to SNES online. Chrono Cross is the forgotten sequel that some people forgot about because it "wasn't the same" even though it was an amazing game on its own right. I have played through Cross several times and enjoyed it every time.

I find jrpgs besides chrono trigger so hard to get into… ff7… xenoblade chronicles 1… chrono cross… the amount of characters to join your party (ff7 chrono cross) and lack of a compelling overarching story (cc xenoblade) make it hard for me to really get into. How does one get past this. Just pick characters for yohr party that you enjoy and ignore the rest? Play the games FOR the characters and ignore bad writing in the main story? I really want to love these games but I find them just not as compelling as chrono trigger

They didn't even need to put in "turn off enemy encounters", this game has a 100% success rate on running from battles, including boss fights.

True, but sometimes they can be annoying to dodge, but yeah not as useful as the FF no encounters obviously. And about boss fights, yeah you can run from them, but you can't skip them lol. The only reason they made it so you can run from everything is because you can screw yourself in battle if you use your elements incorrectly, so you have to be able to run away so you can try again/set up better.

Def in my top 10 games of all-time, and I've been gaming since the 80's. Best part of the direct for me. 😁 Please be physical.

Whilst I am very excited about the release, I had hoped that they will be in widescreen aspect instead of 4:3. And they had updated the character model more (it seems that they only touched the faces and did minimal remodeling of the character coming from someone who replays chrono cross on emulator from time to time)

One of my most favorite games is coming back, so happy about it, and it looks so good, definitely getting it for my Switch.

What are you talking about? The game is 100% a sequel. The plot of the game is entirely tied to and reliant upon the events of Trigger.

I'm actually crying right now. This game was a major part of my childhood. I spent MONTHS trying to find a translated copy of Radical Dreamers, so I am glad they decided to include that as well.

Crying is the proper reaction I feel even if its just one tear..this game had a huge impact on me. I played it in my childhood, teenage hood and even now.....I will never forget crying because I was a kid who was not used to losing and Fargo was cheating the whole damn time. He said "Go get some rest" so I cried on the couch and thought it was fitting if my party slept too....then all was revealed lol.

So, so excited. Chrono is my favourite game series of all time.

the small switch screen is perfect for making these ps1 remakes look even crisper - can't wait for April!

It is very weird that they included an option to turn off the encounters. In Chrono Cross you can see enemies in the environment, no random battles, and you can (mostly) easily "dodge" the enemies, so I really do not get it... :D

@@li__suarez They have been doing it since the re-re-release of Final Fantasy VII. They included some legal cheats and I do not understand why. Do Square really thinks players are idiots? :D

@@li__suarez Its simply because the other upscaled remakes that are being made had similar options, but its still not a bad idea, it makes it easier for modders to make a hard type difficulty like you're asking on steam

In the game, you only level by fighting bosses. After a certain point, fights don’t really do much for you.

So excited for this, the Switch had brought back many games most of us thought we'd never see again.

Excited for this, the characters look pretty good, but I won't lie, the environments look bad, like AI upscale bad (which likely was), and blurry in several parts.

Best game of all timelines/dimensions.

I know this soundtrack so well because I was introduced to it and i decided to keep it, listen to it, and love it.I barely knew the game so seeing how the songs are used in the game now is amazing!

Best video game soundtrack ever; I used to leave the opening on when I was a kid just to listen to Scars of Time over and over again! Such a great game.

Now this is a portal of time travel to another world! I feel like a child again seeing the game and hearing the soundtrack. What a true masterpiece this is, the real roots of JRPG and the turn-based system, finally. It's back.

After years and years of wishing to be able to replay this in something other than an emulator, it's finally happened and I couldn't be happier!!!!!

So cool to think that we had just remasters and collections for this Direct, and it was one the best Directs ever!
