Mother 3? Never existed. Lucas was an original character from Brawl. And, definitely do not research in the slightest, because Mother 3 isn't a truly real game, totally not.

I'm almost positive it's Joe Zieja - it sounds so much like him. Wouldn't surprise me since he has a relationship with Nintendo already (Claude in Fire Emblem Three Houses).

The game series is over, if we ever did get another, the creator would probably have nothing to do with it. Also a remake was pitched during the GameCube era, but was shot down. Really the only thing up in the air right now is the localization of mother 3 since there has never been a definitive yes or no.

@@itsmii7785 GBA Emulators are very easy to come by and you can easily get the fan translation from Vimm's Lair. There are even some fan-made cartridges being sold on ebay. That's how I played it my first time.

Imagine how much better EarthBound would have sold if it was originally advertised like this…

Nah the 90s were all about gross-out advertising. It was the reviews and graphics that initially turned people away from the game. Reviewers brushed the game off because of the bright graphics and wanted something more akin to Final Fantasy. Most people didn’t play past the first town so they never understood how great the writing and combat is. The game also cost $30 more than a standard SNES game at the time and that was something never really done before. It was many factors, but the advertising was just following trends of the era

Take my word for it as someone who has played both games several times: Play Earthbound first. Earthbound Beginnings has a special place in my heart, but it suffers from: > Unbalanced Enemies > Unbalanced encounter rates > Needing to level grind A LOT. > Vague and directionless story > Giant, sparse maps that are easy to get lost in I highly recommend using a guide or following a playthrough so you don't get stuck or rage quit. You can do it! I believe in you!

I disagree with the story part, as many people love beginnings more than even earthbound because of it. But I agree with literally everyone else. An unorganized over world and poorly balanced level up system can be discouraging for new players. If you love earthbound though, chances are, these can be overcome with enough dedication to the series.

If someone still wants the Earthbound Beginnings experience but in a more beginner friendly way, I'd recommend the GBA port with the fan translation, since it has the Easy Ring and actually has a more accurate English translation. If you really want the challenge and grinding though, play the original NES version by all means, though if you are playing for the first time, you will absolutely need a guide. Honestly though, you can play EarthBound first then EarthBound Beginnings and still be just fine, although someone who played EarthBound first may be confused on Giygas but otherwise the story can still be understood.

Hi. Fan since the NES days here. Obviously I missed Ninten's adventure, and when I found out Ness's was a middle chapter without either 1 or 3, I passed. I have a major point of starting classic, long-running RPG series from the beginning(s). After becoming a grizzled veteran to RPG tropes, settings, etc, I couldn't believe an NES game from 1989 could blow my mind, delight, and SURPRISE me at age 38. I'm at the plateau before the summit of Mt. Itoi, getting ready to take my final steps. Thank you for making these available. This experience has made me feel like a kid again, and you can't put a price tag on that. You've created an EarthBound fan for life now by doing this.

ditto. Mother1/EBB is one of the greatest games of all time. The Music, the Story, the Dialogue, they really cared at a time when those details mattered to very few, and the localization team did a stellar job!

Earthbound is a masterpiece, very glad that more people will be able to experience this amazing cult classic. I already own it on my Wii U, New 3DS XL, and it's on my SNES Classic Mini.

I actually really like the fact that they acknowledged that most people know Ness from Smash Bros as a starting point. I mean, Smash was how I found out about series like Pikmin and Sonic. It absolutely has the power to get people into games, so using that as a marketing hook for these ports is a very smart move.

Earthbound, it's so near and dear to my heart being the absolute favorite game of mine. I appreciate the spotlight being put on the series because it is an experience I find myself coming back to when I'm feeling I need it. So much joy! So much crazy, lol. All heart.

As much as I love earthbound, and I'm glad this game is out on switch now. They should've had this released a long time ago.

Man, I remember playing this on my Wii U when I was 12. Really glad it's part of my childhood. The awesome thing is when I replay it as an adult, I understand how funky, nonsensical and surreal the story and characters actually is, when I was a kid I didn't think about it as much since I was so invested in the experience. I'm so happy more people get to experience this timeless classic! (Now give us Mother 3)

this is a great style of trailer; it feels like a little game review, and i, for one, would love to see more trailers done this way!

To be honest, this game is nestled in a warm little pocket of my heart. It rules. It will make you smile, giggle, shiver and even cry. The story is adorable and the characters are beyond lovely. If you haven't played it, jump right in. We miss you Satoru Iwata :')

It’s tough because apparently Mother 3 has a number of things in it that straight up would not fly by today’s standards in the west (and I don’t mean in a woke sense, nor in a “violence/sexually explicit design is bad” sort of way”. If they localize it, it’s gonna have some changes

Mother2/Earthbound was definitely a game with a far bigger lasting impact than you'd expect of a title with its nieche popularity and low sales. It created a very specific style of tone and humour that has defined a good portion of the Internet as well inspired countless other weird/emotional/quirky RPG games such as Yume Nikki, Space Funeral, LISA, Undertale, Omori, Jimmy and The Pulsating Mass, Other HLE, etc that have carved out their own brand in the genre. In terms of impact vs success Mother has made a deceptively major impression with the former. Some might even call it THE most representative/definitive example of a Cult title.

I’ve never actually gotten the full EarthBound experience, so I’m happy to try it out!

“Can we get another Ness?” Gets me every time.

This is the best trailer we couldve gotten it doesnt take itself seriously, but it doesnt make it sound like a joke, its just perfect

A rerelease of a 25+ year old game that has been playable on 2 prior systems, is playable for free online, and was arbitrarily delayed on Switch for years is the highlight of the direct for you?

I am so excited!!! I’ve never played EarthBound before but I’ve heard so many good things about it and I’ve been wanting to play it so badly!! Now I finally can

I remember when I got this game. It came in a big box with a strategy guide. I kept seeing it by chance on the Walmart shelf and eventually I got it. I absolutely loved playing it and was shocked I never heard it before and it wasn't promoted at all. The game play was soo unique, still love it today.

@@ishkar5k you can, there's playlists all over KZread. Earthbound's creator is far more lenient with the copyright takedowns than Nintendo

This is what is introducing me to earthbound, and I am loving it so far!

I love how he names the 2 most useless PSI abilities and is still passionate about it

It makes me sooooo happy hearing them talk about Ninten. Earthbound Beginnings is such an underrated title and i hope it gets more fans.

Yeah it may be grindy at times or at least at some point, and you may get confused figuring out where to go, but it’s still mostly fun and it has awesome characters and story imo.

So glad this gem is finally getting the praise and attention it deserves!

I’m so glad Earthbound is getting the love it deserves. Hopefully a lot more people play these fantastic games so that maybe someday Nintendo can make more of them.

This is so sweetly in tone with the premise, its honestly one of the best things they couldve done to actuallly show the spirit of the games without spoilers or dumb memes

I just finished playing both of them. It was soooo good!!! I love Ness even more now!

I played earthbound a while ago and it was quite literally one of the best games I've ever played. I lost the device I used to play it the first time so to be able to finally play it again on the switch after so long makes me super happy.

I'm so happy that my favorite video game series is getting it's deserved love and recognition.

Wow chills.. So excited for all the kids and adults who get to experience Mother for the first time!

I loved the reference to dinousaurs tv show: "We're gonna need another timmy!"

When they first announced Earthbound and Beginnings right after, my first thought was "wait... they wouldn't..." I was right. They didn't. I can still have hope though.

I never really played earthbound but i always heard that it’s a great game from others and after trying it out on switch it’s amazing. I highly recommend it but the early game can be quite difficult.

@@Man_Jr._Studios if you don't feel like playing it after eb, play mother 3 on an emulator - it'll give you a little bit more hope. though I recommend playing beginnings poltergeist segment and having a listen to Pollyanna when you go outside in mother 1 before you go ahead and play mother 3

I'm so happy that Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings (Mother 1+2) are getting a second chance to shine for the younger generations. I didn't have a SNES so I used to play with a emulator to run both games and oh boy, the save game and speed option was very useful. There's also a port for the GBA completely in Japanese of the both games if you're curious. I don't have a Nintendo Switch but I'm glad this happening. Nintendo, don't forget Mother 3 exists, too! Remember, if you beat the game, don't go to your house right away, explore first. Pockey's father is in the Cafe located in Fourside. Good luck!

I love how the narrator embraces just how weird these games can be. I’m excited to play it, I’m also one of those people who only really experienced Ness through *pkfirepkfirepkfirepkfire*

@@RepublicofFoigWerg well clipping in other places can lead to other effects, I believe there was some manipulation that would let you restart the game with high stats and equipment like a pseudo NG+. But the fun one is the Threed Tent glitch that could make the entire console lock on some versions. It can basically do anything at random

I’ve played earth bound like 5 or 6 times on my Wii U and fell in love. So glad to do it again

This is honestly the best Trailer to a Cult Classic of the 90s, the Narration is top notch and it coveys the feelings Earthbound as a game give to the player, gone are the gross out humor of the 90s, Earthbound has gotten so far it no longer stinks as a game🌎🌏🌍

This man wasn't paid to voice this, he was a big Earthbound fan that barged into the record both

Now THAT is an advertising campaign I can get behind!! Even if these games "stink", it's of wacky fun and good times we're genuinely excited to play. This made my day, week, and potentially everything else right around my birthday in a couple days, so I know it's gonna be OK with me. I'm just glad Nintendo's out here once again bein' friends.

Ness asked for a re-release! -2863 HP damage to Nintendo! Nintendo became tame! YOU WON! Ness and co. got 75829 exp. points. Ness is now level 69! Paula is now level 68! Jeff is now level 65! Poo is now level 66! Inside the present, there was a Earthbound re-release pass! Ness takes it.

Although the work of mother 3 is still something I want to be brought to light in the future, I am happy that nintendo finally recognizes this series and maybe just maybe will find some way to bring it into a light that isn't just the classic port and go and instead a full remake if on the slim chance that will ever happen

This is a great introduction for those who have not heard of Ness 😊 FANTASTIC!
