Hey everyone! I've read some feedback about how it was strange I didn't mention Lana signing the open letter "NoHostageLeftBehind" which thanks Joe Biden for his "unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people." which ultimately states propaganda lies about Palestinians and funds the IDF to continue the genocide against Palestinians. I want to make it clear that I support Palestine and do not stand for the genocide. I have and will continue to donate to funds for Gaza and their aid. While researching for this video, I initially had it in my script to mention Lana's support for Biden and the IDF, however I was reading mixed things online in several forums that she personally did not sign the letter, that someone from her team did, and that in the past she has openly showed support for Palestine, and I was honestly confused on her whole stance on the situation at hand. To be completely honest, I am still confused! I figured since I didn't have a clear answer it'd be easier if I didn't include it to avoid spreading misinformation, but I completely recognize how that can be seen as me avoiding an important detail in her past while I talked about other controversial things she has done. Part of the "Chronically online girl series" is me recognizing the good and the bad of someone's career and past, while also humanizing them, and sometimes giving my opinion. Going forward I want to ensure I'm as accurate as possible in my videos, and want to make it a goal to only spread verified information, because it is real people we're talking about! I appreciate the feedback always and will do better about doing more research going forward! I am going to continue to donate to the UN Crisis Relief and other Gaza relief funds, but if you're able to donate or share, it is much appreciated.

@surette2012
24 күн бұрын
@@kathiodarrr I can understand that. Not everyone likes things they might still be uncomfortable with pointed out. However It is a bit of a bad faith outlook to use biases or preconceptions about women with the whole pick me phenomena and applying it to anyone that doesn’t say the perfect thing or something considered a social faux pas. A more good faith interpretation is she was trying to be lighthearted about it and luckily the one who posted (who is the girl being spoken to. So I guess she’s comfortable sharing it with even more people.) had similar humour about it. Dark humour. I can only give my subjective opinion on it and I how I feel about my own sh scars. I get rather upset or even angry if someone points it out in that super delicate and pitying way. Like a nurse talking to a child. Either don’t mention it or come at me with common ground and we can laugh it off. Lana has a unique dynamic with her fans to say the least. She’s like…their poster girl for mental health struggles and morbid thoughts. She’s candid and doesn’t mince words about taboo topics. Some appreciate that, some don’t. Depending on what internet you grew up on, I guess. What’s considered politically correct and all that. It’s polarized.

This is the first chronically online video where I've been so chronically online about this particular topic that I didn't learn anything new, in fact Lana has so many controversies that some weren't even mentioned
omg i fully blocked out lana's "question for the culture" post. her view of feminism is so warped and misinformed. like she says that a 3rd wave of feminism is coming when we're in the era of 4th wave feminism rn.
@gabriella5777
24 күн бұрын
i would disagree. whenever she first came out we were in 3rd wave and im pretty sure when QFTC was released we were still in 3rd wave "girlboss/i dont need a man" feminism. she may have worded it wrong but its not hard to understand what she was saying and why she felt hurt when nicole literally does the same thing in the video. Scholars believe we have entreated our 4th wave in the 2010s. Also I think the whole essay was poorly thought out bc she clearly doesn’t know much abt feminism nor did she take the time to research. I understand where she’s coming from. But it definitely came off like she was painting herself out as the most overlooked kind of woman. Which was just gross and unnecessary.

I love that you mentioned how romanticized Lana's earlier music was. The portrayal of abusive men as heroes that "saved" her definitely affected how I viewed relationships. Granted, I was old enough to realize that this is HER perspective. She saw these men through rose-colored glasses. It makes total sense. However, that doesn't mean her lyrics don't paint such toxicity in a good light.

The Jim she is always talking about is Jim Beam. She talks about alcohol like an abusive lover. I get that people think she is talking about a man at first glance and maybe they misunderstand it as glamourizing abuse, but it's about her addiction.
@machinegirl03

worth noting she said in an interview w/ grazia that uv is also based on her experience being in a cult/sect (ie referencing jim jones even tho he was obv before her time), "i can hear sirens, sirens" also references that (sleep deprivation using sirens). but that story could just be part of her persona and it only applies to 1 song anyways. also in an early interview/docu she mentioned she dated a guy named jim who lived in the same trailer park, which is what the diet mntn dew demo is based on. his name isn't in the lyrics iirc but that's another jim she's personally connected to. the alcoholism interpretation of her lyrics makes the most sense by far, i just think it's interesting how many different jims she can be connected to lol

I think Lana del rey is the clearest embodiment of her career being a job, you know? Celebrity seem to be sold as a way of life, what you see on tv/phone screen is what you see in life. Lana del ray does her job at selling a fantasy, but as soon it’s time to clock out-she is Elizabeth. I thinks it’s so interesting to see the difference, and maybe the “healthiest” way to approach your celebrity: your fans see your fantasy in concerts/events/etc, but everyday you’re acting like the same person you were. I like how she’s an old Hollywood coquette mystery , but also a regular person living their life

The previous week to my visit, Lana Del Rey had stumbled upon this same little spot and the Gaelic song had made her cry. The store owner had no idea who she was. As homeboi was explaining this, a gay man from LA sitting next to me who is OBSESSED with Lana LOST HIS MIIIIIIND that he had come so close to bumping into Lana Del Rey he was having to take deep calming breaths and tell himself that it’s probably best he doesn’t meet his idols. If I am doing one thing it’s clicking every notification that says miss Nikki has posted

the way I feel like screaming to the skies that people need to stop criticizing her weight because she literally got off c*ke. Like. it’s not cute to drink perfume with half a cup of grapes while idolizing someone who was an addict.

I just wanna comment saying i love your series especially because I don't keep up with celebrity drama and I usually dont care about this stuff but because you break it down so easily and digestible I ended becoming hooked on your series. I love your style and I love the posters that you put on the wall.

IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE OMFG.
As someone who became a fan of Lana's music at 16 and got into an abusive relationship that same year, you're 100% right about her romanticizing abuse. It didn't cause me to stay in that relationship, but it sure didn't help me see that there was something wrong with how I was being treated. The widespread normalization/romanticization of abusive behavior, which Lana Del Rey has contributed to, is absolutely dangerous for young people and it bothers me when people dismiss that. Also, we've been well into the 3rd wave of feminism for decades now. Many scholars would actually argue that we're currently in the 4th wave. Her acting like she was going to help usher in a "new third wave" of feminism, as someone who clearly knows nothing about feminism, is so frustrating. I really wish she'd just apologized and stopped talking 😭 And I say all of this as someone who still adores her music.

i started listening to lana when i was around 12, i’ve been in a few abusive relationships but my experience has been completely different because to me, lana’s music is what got me thru these relationships. it felt so refreshing to see someone accurately portray abuse from the victims point of view because the media surrounding abuse has (to me) always felt so surface level like “oh this person hurts me, this is painful” rather than the complex emotions of dependency, love, sadness and everything else that comes with an abusive relationship. lana’s music made me feel like i wasn’t alone, it was relatable and it felt comforting to know that i wasn’t insane for feeling everything i felt and the comfort of that is probably the main reason as to why i made it out alive. she never romanticized abuse, she just portrayed it according to how she felt whilst being in said relationships, from the intense love to the pain of dependency.
As someone who has self harmed and has obvious scars on their arms, I’d honestly love it if she said that. Better than the awkward stares and muttered apologies. Might as well make something light out of the pain. But that’s just me, I know others may feel differently
