Ragan Smith was an alternate on the olympic team, had an amazing 2017 with the culmination of getting to worlds as the favorite for the aa gold only to break her ankle seconds before competing. I've never gotten over it. So Spencer that is my why Ragan deserves all the things and the beam title. Its amazing to see her thriving in college and i want her to win everything

I think simone could get her amanar and cheng to old form if she actually trains them. We know she didn’t train them last year and that’s why her cheng wasn’t as strong. I wouldn’t count simone out at all if it came to down to who has the best Cheng/Amanar combo.

She’s probably training her amanar because her double pike is very risky. We probably won’t see her double pike until the Olympics. Also if she feels uneasy with the double pike at the Olympics she can just go for an amanar. My question is…isn’t the amanar the vault she had issues with in Tokyo? What’s her reason for training it if what I said above is not correct?

@@TommyWiseauu yeah, it’s not like the vault gave her problems per say. She’s been competing it at a legendary level since 2012. Now there may be some mental blocks due to that being the skill that was actually competed and led to the withdrawing. But , it’s all mental and sounds like she’s working through it pretty well.

I'm glad Simine is training orher vaults in addition to the YDP - and tbh i dont think she would take the risk doing the YDP if she's not feeling its working on the day, even if she "just" comes second. Paraplegia / other serious injury just isn't worth it. It's very wise having back up vaults, given what happened at Tokyo.. far less pressure on her, to have other vaults to choose from as needed

JUST AN FYI: Simone has 2 vaults named after her. The Yurchenko double pike is the Biles 2. A Cheng with an extra 1/2 twist is Biles 1. I think people are confusing the YDP as Biles 1.

Firstly congratulations for the channel, I love your work and you are incredible. What do you think about making an assessment of the potential gymnasts who will be left out of Paris, due to fig once again preferring teams and AAs, in fact it is clear over the years of Olympic classification how much fig prioritizes AA. I'm against it because in most cases, the best series come from experts gymnasts (specialists) and are world and Olympic level series. some potential for gold and others for top 8 or podium. On the Floor we have potential series that could be left out such as Eddie Penev, Aurel Benovic, Dmitry Patanin, Yahor Sharamkou and Eamon Montgomery. On the Pommel horse we have Narimam Kurbanov, Ahmad Abu Al-Soud forwarding their places, but at the same time Matvey Petrov and Gagik Khachikyan could be left out. In Rings, Nikita Simonov, Samir Ait Said, Artur Avetisyan, Vahagn Davtyan, Vinzenz Hoeck, Mahdi Kohani. In the vault, Mahdi Olfati, Andrey Medvedev, Shek Wai Hung, etc. In Parallel Bars, Rasuljon, Jossimar and Barajas. And on the High Bar, Ilias Georgiou, Angel Barajas, Ahmed Elmaraghy, Robert Tvorogal, Artur Nory, Marios Gergiou, etc. Many may say that, oh, they failed at the Worlds, they are not doing well in the cups, but these are great series, some at Olympic level and they will be left out. For me, unfair. I think the most damaging devices are the pommel horse and rings, which in the cup finals we see, are the best in the world in finals. Floor comes soon after with big series being eliminated. Parallels and High Bar kind of complement each other because if someone can't do it on one device they can still have a chance on the other. Of course, if Taipei and South Korea had managed to get a place for a team, the scenario would be different with places now but it would still be insufficient. there are cases like lee chih kai and omar mohamed who can still get an Olympic place via the continentals. But I always wonder why there are so few vacancies in Africa, Oceania, the Americas and even Asia? Added to this, gymnasts from South Korea, Taipei, and North Korea on the ring, who are standing out in the cups, and advancing their classification, with only 1 more spot remaining. In the Tokyo cycle, the Worlds gave up to 3 places in the apparatus final, and 1 more in the cups. this time the worlds gave 1 place, and 2 in the cups, that is, a spot was lost. If we look at AA at the Worlds, it was fair because it managed to give places to athletes from countries without a team, and taking the best AAs at the time without a team. It is known that there is a limit on places imposed by the IOC, and I really cannot calculate a way to include more places for individual devices. Unless out of 12 teams, only 10 or 9 went to the Olympics, but these 2 or 3 teams would enter the AA and Apparatus competition. The high mag level in the cups is clear, with strong series of high D and good E, unlike the wag which rarely has any strong series. Many of these male athletes that I mentioned had a great Olympic cycle, standing out in the cups, winning titles, etc. Of course, some have dropped in performance and don't show their full potential now, whether in the qualifying cups now or in the last worlds, but they had a good cycle which made me keep an eye on them, believing in potential vacancies for them. We saw many of them in the Tokyo cycle, which evolved and arrived stronger in the Paris cycle, but they are still at risk and certainly great series were left out. Anyway, what do you think my friends? Sorry for the long text, but I think it's something cool to discuss.

Simone training the amanar makes sense and at the same time confuses me. So it makes sense cause if she feels uneasy about her double pike, she can substitute it for the amanar. That (if I’m correct makes sense) but isn’t the amanar the vault she had issues with in Tokyo? That’s where I’m confused. I don’t think she’ll compete the double pike till Paris. It doesn’t make sense for her to throw such a dangerous/difficult vault during competitions she can easily win. We didn’t see it at Championships. We did see it at worlds but we also saw her hit it and miss it. That tells me this vault of hers isn’t quite consistent just yet.

Tbh I don’t think Simone wants to risk falling at all. With Laurent there, she at least has a safety precaution. If Laurent isn’t there and she falls, it can be very drastic. Vault is the most dangerous event esp in women’s gymnastics so tbh I don’t blame Simone for wanting Laurent there. To me, it seems like her YDP isn’t consistent to where she can perform it most of the time safely and successfully. Perhaps more is going on during practice where we can’t witness anything. Thats why I believe she’s training the amanar again.
