What a splatfest this meet was. I'm still so happy for Dicello. Have always liked her gymnastics and always thought she was pretty overlooked in the media. She showed she is a big contender for Paris. Still too early and too many falls to really guess who is gonna be on that team.

I haven't been thinking of Kayla DiCello as a realistic Olympic team member. But after this competition - and reflecting on her performance at last fall's Winter Cup, which she also won - it seems she's steadily been building her case. As an all-arounder, she has sufficient difficulty and is reliably competition-ready, much like Jordan Chiles, Leanne Wong, Kyla Ross, etc.

Her win at PanAms last fall was an especially big deal, showed she can score well internationally (though the Winter Cup scoring was definitely inflated, I think Kayla could break 56 internationally on her best day, but would typically be high 55s).

I can see this scenario playing out. Even tho Suni had a rough competition at Winter Cup if she hits at Classics, National Championships and Olympic Trials and it comes down to Suni Vs Kayla to make the Team I would choose Suni. No matter what I believe if Kayla continues to be consistent she will be a traveling Alternate for the Team

Stock way way up for Kayla. It's not just that her execution was good, it's the increased difficulty and start values. I could finally see value in using her in team finals 3 up 3 count in multiple events. If Skye gets a solid Cheung, that helps Kayla too (and hurts the Jades and Josces that's main selling point is a difficult vault). My way too early Olympic team is Simone, Shilese, Skye, Kayla, and a battle for 5th (Josc, suni, lincoln, etc). Honestly, with just those first four, you could comfortably compete any of them in any team final event and be 14+ with a hit.

I hate to say this but I agree with Sam Peszek when she expressed “all the falls”. There was SO MANY FALLS. Should have this competition in October instead of February and call it The Fall Cup. I know I’m playing with fire saying this but, Sam Peszek competed around a time where the gymnastics quality was much better. Anytime after 2016, the quality sunk a lot.

Leanne, Skye, or Kayla? Yea that’s a great question. I am still going with Leanne, mostly because she’s my favorite and I think she has been pacing herself very intentionally and will comeback strong in the spring. Kayla would be the favorite today, was super impressive in this competition. Skye has so much potential and could definitely slay by championships. Too bad there couldn’t be an NCAA team going to the Olympics as well as USA 😂because we could field a very competitive team with Leanne, Jade, Jordan, Kayla, Grace, etc., I know it would never happen but we have way too many great gymnasts to field only one team. 😞

Eh, she's only been back in the gym full time for 5 weeks. I don't think Winter Cup should be taken as evidence that she's in her head. She's pretty tenacious, one of those people where her mistkes just make her come out stronger and more determined later. I've also heard others say that in past years it's been common for her to have a shakey first meet or two of the season, she tends to get stronger as she goes.

I disagree with Jessica's comment that the US MAG team has to 'talk to the media' if they want to be Olympic champions. If you preach about mental health, you should keep that in mind when athletes put themselves first over interviews that can be done later. It may seem like a weird choice to some, and USAG should for sure work with them on media training, but please, have a little empathy for the MAG team members who declined to talk to the press back in 2022.

I wish people would stop pretending the scores at US Nationals have anything to do with the way a gymnast will be scored internationally. Josc received 14 plus at the World Cups but got a 13.6 at the World Championships. Even competitions like the Pan-Ams Games does not mean those scores will happen at a Worlds or Olympics. The international judges seem to follow the suit of US Nationals when it comes to the top two (Simone and whoever always getting the benefit) but the rest of the team never scores as high. A good example is Leanne and Kayla in 2021. They were the top 2 gymnasts and were scored accordingly but the world's judges in 2023 treated Leanne like she was a third-stringer. And she is a WORLD ALL AROUND MEDALIST. Kayla would have probably been treated the same way. So choosing a team based on US judging would be the wrong thing to do.

Josc got 14+ in world cups, and that was legitimate. She scored 13.6 because of the big balance error in wolf turn and large step forward & short landing for her last pass. Her worlds floor podium training is 14+ level. The US judges are still licensed judges. Also, your statement is contradictory. "people should stop pretending the scores at US Nationals have anything to do with the way a gymnast will be scored internationally." and "The international judges seem to follow the suit of US Nationals when it comes to the top two" LMAO....

No one new stood out. As usual...skye fell in competition....I’m starting to think we’re going to see skye fall AT LEAST once in every competition. Yeah she came in 2nd but she’s not consistent and can’t be counted on. It’s sad cause Skye has potential to be a medalist in worlds and Olympics but because she’s inconsistent, she probably won’t make Paris. She proved that at worlds both years. Suni....did not do well AT ALL....she was talked up so much to give us subpar routines..her routine barely had any tumbling. ALOT of fancy split jumps and few layout step outs…THATS IT FROM A GOLD MEDALIST. The public has proven she’s a favorite, my question is…why? *yawn* trinity did well, not spectacular but she did well. Kayla did great, she should see an Olympic team member at the very least as an alternate. She’s proven she should have been a contender for Worlds 2023 and Skye should have been the alternate. I view Skye as more talented than Kayla but because Kayla is consistent and Skye isn’t, Kayla will probably be named to Paris over Skye.

She has talent but at the end of the day consistency BEATS talent and that will be the reason why she doesn’t make the Olympic team. She’ll be beaten out by either Kayla or Leanne, 2 athletes who I don’t think are as talented as Skye but are way more reliable when it comes to hitting routines.
