Anthony the reason it fits with gambino is because his latest music before this album dropped already had a funky appeal to it where most of his fans already had a love for his funky sound. so it wouldnt surprise me to the extent if he would drop a funk album

Travis C. W.​ Drake already started with the R&B crossover hip-hop sound a long time ago at the start of his career bro. Remember songs like Best I Ever Had, Find Your Love, Take Care, Practice and Crew Love? These songs were already crossover songs but he knew what to bring out in order to achieve the succes that he has now. Especially since R&B & Hip-Hop are at its peak in the mainstream charts (not saying that it is the best era though which of course is the 90's in my opinion).
