I bought my C6 eight years ago. It's been on the road for one of those eight. I completed 60 tasks of an 82 job list (new EGR's, new handbrake, new water pump, new alternator, new power steering, new window + mechanism, new bearings, bushes etc, etc), before a gummed up mountain of mastic (applied by a 'mechanic' to compensate for a snapped water pump retaining bolt) clogged up the water channels. Three thermostat housings later, on the 18th of May 2016, the cylinder head gasket blew. It finally got it's replacement engine fitted last week and is now getting all the things fixed that 4 years sitting on a driveway will need fixed. It'll take a couple more years to sort the cosmetic stuff but it will return to showroom condition. Eventually.

Temptingly cheap, but incredibly complex. There’s just something about them that says absolute peak of French luxury motoring. I can totally see the appeal, just as I could with my dad‘s CX reflex back in the day, it might only have had 2 L but too a 13-year-old like a spaceship.

When I was a child a Citroen dealership opened in the Village in Co Down where I lived, the CX was the new flagship at the time, as you say it was like someting had landed from outer space. I can attest to these being difficult to work on. I have a 3.0hdi c5 and did the timing belt not too long ago. Shortly after that the alternator pulley exploded sending bits of spring and ball bearings all over the place... Made a horrid noise. Other than the above it's been an absolute joy to drive, like a comfortable pair of old slippers. As preventative maintenance I also do a partial gearbox oil change when doing the yearly service.

Plastic pulley that fractured a lip when pressed out - I did a bit of an experiment on 3 dead plastic idler pulleys (all from PSA vehicles, not C6's though - a 206, a 406 coupe and can't remember where the other originated from) - I have a lathe so machined off the lip on all three. However when I came to push the bearing out I found 2 pressed out ok, but the third the whole pulley plastic fractured - it turned out the bearing outer race had two groves running around the perimeter, the black plastic outer pulley had then been molded over the top (so into the groves too) - as such this one wasn't a replaceable bearing. 6203 on all three pulleys (was suffix 2RS = rubber seals - I've put in new cheapest I could find (about £1.50 / bearing off eBay) 6203 ZZ = two metal covers) but haven't put the "rebuilt" idlers into service yet. I have a similar C5 X7 "exclusive" (with related to C6 hydractive suspension) so recognise a lot of what's in shot! Only a "tiny" 2.2 HDi to to try reach round though, that V6 you have sure fills that engine bay!

Did you manage to buy/find the shouldered bolt for the turbo pipe and am i right in assuming the cars had a new cambelt which does explain the loose/missing bolts (is it 108,000 miles on these engines?), finally i learnt something new about the idler pulleys in that i'd always assumed the pressed steel were projection/spot welded together (manuals and other sources always replace the pulley), now I see the halves are pressed around the bearing, is there any chance of a video showing how you separated the pulley assembly?

Worst bit of the job was the locking pin for the crankshaft was oversize snd didnt fit in the housing in the block! Had to machine a bit off the O/D to get it to fit. Aux belt tensioner disintegrated on removal so needed to get a new one. It’s supposed to have a pin fitted in the thin strap of metal up the middle of the spring to lock it compressed while being fitted. My original one was snapped off. Overall cam belt change was relatively easy job, just time consuming. Rear EGR valve change is a total pain.

When you say 2007, I guess it's an 07 MY car that hung around and was not sold until 2009? Strangely, we bought our car new on a 59 plate, but it was built in early 2007.

Yep. Lots of C6s sat around unsold, so the reg doesn't tell the whole story! A true 2009 car would have (fake)chrome inserts in the door handles, and bigger door mirrors (both of which look worse, so I'm glad mine doesn't!)

@@UPnDOWN To be fair as the C6 was heavy on tyres and we did 15K a year in the car they didn't really get chance to perish. Though saying that all tyres seem to perish nowadays. I have Michelin PS3's (top rated tyres) on a car and they too are perishing after 4 years. Have been advised this tends to happen when cars are not used n a regular basis.

It's not a Ford engine there little to no Ford in the engine it 200% psa design used in many psa product outside Europe. Psa are not just a car company they are a huge engineering multinational corporation peugeot cutroen Matra simca This engine was purchased by J L R under as Ford had nothing to offer JLR diesel engine wise. Ford had a long standing relationship with psa diesel engines used in fiesta focus cmax mondeos pretty much every 1.6nto 2.0,diesels came from psa Ford has struggle developing there own engines at this point so people do not insult psa

It was a joint development by Ford/PSA. They were literally built in Dagenham! And PSA aren't anything - they cease to exist. From Wikipedia: "The Ford AJD engine was first developed as a V6 with a clean-sheet architecture and variable valve timing by Ford of Europe for its then subsidiaries Jaguar Cars and Land Rover, as well as for its partner PSA Peugeot Citroën working under the Gemini joint development and production agreement. It is called the AJD-V6 in the Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles and the DT17/DT20 by Citroën and Peugeot. The engines share the same bore/stroke ratio, with the V6 displacing 2.7 L (2,720 cc) and the V8 displacing 3.6 L (3,630 cc). The V6 was launched in 2004 and the V8 in 2006. The V6 engine meets the Euro IV emissions standards. A DT20 3.0 L (2,993 cc) was added in 2009 and is based on the DT17 2.7 L (2,720 cc). The V6 is used across many vehicles, from the Citroën C5 and C6, to the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover, multiple cars in the Jaguar range, and also the Ford Territory. To improve the engine's low-speed torque range for off-roading and towing applications, the Land Rover variant utilised a large capacity single-turbocharger, rather than use the twin-turbo design; in addition the engine is fitted with a large engine driven cooling fan to support low speed, high load driving as may be encountered in desert conditions. Furthermore, the Land Rover variant of the Lion V6 includes a deeper, high capacity sump with improved baffles to maintain oil pressure at off-roading extreme angles and multi-layered seals to keep dust, mud and water at bay and different transmission bell housing bolt pattern. The Lion V6 - constructed from compacted graphite iron[1] - is a member of the Ford Duratorq family and is produced at Ford's Dagenham engine plant; 35,000 engines were produced from April to December 2004." Enjoy :)

Ford absolutely had everything to do with the v6 and v8 diesels - PSA gave some design briefs I think so they could squeeze their engines on the PF3 platform but it was more an engine designed for JLR applications. JLR even brought the engine in house when ford dropped their uk diesel engine business - and the latest iterations still snap cranks apparently in things like the l405 range rover. So blame JLR / Ford for not sorting out the bloody crankshaft design for the last few decades lol.
