Another video masterclass. Thanks a lot, Richard. Makes me wonder why anyone working on cars and videoing it needs to do anything else. The production of your videos (and HubNut), are spot on, and don't need all the other stuff, smash cuts, multiple camera angles etc. Doing this is hard enough, stick with it, please don't change!

Was speaking to Ian about this the other day, funnily enough. It's difficult to film 'tinkering' (or whatever you term it) as you're not working on the car to give yourself something to film, you're working on the car because you've got something you actually need to fix! You just happen to be trying to capture it on video (and then editing it afterwards into something watchable), so the fixing needs to be the primary focus, which makes the videoing harder to do.

The repair to that pipe was done by the side of the road in Rural France. The only reason we saw the leak was coolant coming out when we parked to take a photo. There is no coolant level warning on the car be which is a big mistake in my view. No warning either from that leak or when Snows in Basingstoke knackered the thermostat housing when changing timing belt. The was just a smell of coolant in cabin. Great to see her getting the love she needs!

This is when it becomes apparent that originally expensive cars benefit from a cossetted garaged life away from salted roads. I've noticed on Google street view UK owners pull out the front gardens of Duplexes and pave the area for the car ..so it hardly ever gets a chance to dry out in a damp climate. Although used car prices tend to be more in Australia, we don't have salt.

Modern houses in the UK are so crammed in, and the roads so busy that people will do what they can to park their car. The C6 wouldn't fit in my garage at home, I know that. Garage is tiny, even the BX is tight, and the house was only built in the Eighties!

That upper ball joint is a bit of a concern, the ones I've worked on have had a nylon spherical insert. If considerable heat has been applied, it might have ..... melted a bit. A de-burring tool usually works quite well, even on steel, to create a decent chamfer / lead in, without having to resort to filing. The Rangie P38 has bushes that are about 2.5mm oversize when measured free, the fitting tool has a long taper to compress it during fitting. Interesting stuff, especially the active engine mounts. Thank you.

I think technically they're powered by electric solenoids, but those are governed by boost (as I understand it). Means you get have it very soft at crusing speeds, which is good for NVH, and if you start giving it beans they firm up when needed.

Hate to say it bro but i reckon you'll end up having to replace that upper ball joint in quick succession, it won't resist the forces acting on the car. As a guy who has traveled all round South America with a fairly unique car i tried everything to continue with my shot ball joint. Opened it and stuffed it with washes, used car batteries to weld it... all sorts of BS but it didnt last. Ended up modifying a new balljoint from another car using the old electric drill and angle grinder 'lathe' technique! Great job on the bushes!

Another great video mate. Upper ball joint and tool issue ……. Your too small ball joint tool looks to be for a pug 405 or 406. The tool you need looks identical but slightly bigger . Try Laser 7332 on eBay-fits mine. Fits pug 407, Citroen C5, C6…..dimensions given in advert. The upper ball joints come off easily with this tool, 1/2 “ breaker bar and a trolly jack handle on the end of the bar for extra leverage. You probably know that you need to secure the tool to the ball joint cut outs by screwing it’s nyloc nut to lock it there then a large socket on the end of tool itself . Heat is good for loosening the thing up but also will have melted the plastic housing within the ball joint to take up slack…… hence it seems tighter. ……. It will wear quickly now and need doing again soon………. Please don’t ask me how I know this as I am still receiving counselling and detailed recall will cause palpitations and relapse…. Oh no….. I can feel relapse starting at meet though……..whilst you’re in, renew the lot !

.... very good, logical engineering work - well done - I only have one concern, may I enquire as to where the previously mentioned 10mm dimension, for the thickness of the spacers has come from ? has an actual C6 Exclusive part been measured ? the larger poly bush diameter may of been to cope with the increased applied load from the change in force with the moved fulcrum position ? - (thus the hole being so tight, if the bush was specific for an 'Exclusive') hope this makes sense? - keep up the excellent, ever improving (little edit flares, sound and visual effects are becoming pro !)
