Can you drive a CITROEN C6 on THREE Wheels?!
You can do it with a DS.
You can do it with a GSA.
You can do it with a BX.
You can do it with an XM.
You can do it with a Xantia.
But can you do it with a Ford Fiesta (RIP)?
No...wait, C6! Can you do it with a C6?
Only one way to find out...

A C6 will try to self level when you park up. Possibly that and putting on the wood is mucking it up, although throught maintainence mode would lock out all 4 corners at max.

The C6 tries to level to an extent, but only front-to-back, and on high it shouldn't be an issue anyway. But I think the wood *might* have confused it....that's the hope I'm clinging to!

In the 24h live, I’m going to ask you about those yellow body sections hanging up high in the Tomato segment of this video.
Try with the suspension set lower? The arm will lift, and maybe that gives more scope for the front suspension to help, as it has more lift travel (not being at the top)
@UPnDOWN
Жыл бұрын
The arm won't lift, it doesn't work like that.
I have a C5, from what I know about hydractive: - start off on level ground (not one corner on wood, the car levels and drops the suspension accordingly) - set to highest position - open driver door and don't (fully) close it until done (suspension adjusts every time door opens, even the boot) - jack up passenger rear wheel - weight of the driver will keep the car balanced - remove wheel and jack - drive to where needed - replace wheel Any deviation will result in what was on video.

@@UPnDOWN If you have ever seen a DS19 wagon with a slightly cloudy rear hatch window ...that's the reason ..it was plastic. ''adrianflux.co.uk'' writes regarding the 19 It also had less power, just 69bhp compared with 75bhp, and gone were the power steering, power brakes and hydraulic clutch and gear change, replaced by a conventional transmission and clutch. A far simpler hydraulic system was fitted, used to operate the hydropneumatic suspension only, while inside plasticised matting replaced foam-backed carpet, seats were simplified, the dash was painted metal, and the door trim and window winders were plastic. Some exterior chrome was dispensed with, including on the headlamp rims, and the rear screen was made out of plexiglass instead of glass. All of this helped reduce the price by a significant 25 per cent, but even that was not enough for some Traction enthusiasts, so the even cheaper ID 19 Normale - using the Traction 11D’s 62bhp engine - was brought in to help further bridge the price gap.
Just needs smaller rear brakes, thats all.. seriously though, I like this video. Well done.

Comments about late model C5 doing it, it will depend on the suspension... Need to remember there was Hydractive 3 and 3+ filtered to C5s and C6s (2.2 has 3 others have 3+) Possibly Hydractive 3 might work better at this trick
@UPnDOWN
Жыл бұрын
Shouldn't do, in theory. 3+ includes AMVAR; the height adjustment element is the same. If the C5 can do it but the C6 can't, then the C6 must have better front/rear weight distribution.
Amazing! Is that a 2.7 v6 I hear?

Well done for trying shipmate! Just like the tyre was only flat at the bottom, the drivers side front suspension only dropped by 10% - ish (maybe 20 to 30%, Ooops!, did I say that), when you got in it. Does a BX, CX or DS do that? Maybe you needed a light weight jockey at hand for this experiment haha --- Maybe the C6 suspension is so good on 4 wheels, it can't manage these 3 wheeled kinds of things anymore and is not included in the spec.

a BX will drop when you get in it, as will any normal sprung car. If you are heavy enough, or carrying lots of passengers it will of course react by self levelling. Can only speak for the BX as it's the only one I owned.

I think the C6's issue is that it can override the max height setting, meaning it allows some suspension travel if there's enough load on it.

There's nothing to be learned because people have done it with DS' plenty of times. But of course, I will!
Whoops! Just a thought - would the rear arm raise itself up into the wheel arch and higher off the ground if you lowered the suspension to medium setting? Or are all the sensors looking for it to make contact on all four corners? I was going to try this with my XMs, but didn't have the courage to as I didn't want to make an expensive mistake. One thing I did was drive to the tyre shop with a flat offside front tyre which it managed at town speeds, only I was getting a load of people shouting and waving at me. The annoying thing with HP suspension is if you purposely want one end of the car to be higher than the other as it'll self level itself if you set the rear tyres on a curb if for whatever reason you want to raise just the rear up while the suspension is in its normal setting. Or if you're stopped on an incline (like the set of traffic lights on the A27 at Lancing), the back end will go up and the look on the face of the driver behind is always something to be seen.
@UPnDOWN
Жыл бұрын
No, it can only be done on high suspension. If you put it on any other setting, the suspension on the remaining three wheels will make up the difference and the car will end up even lower. XM? I reckon it can. In fact, I think I've seen it done. I'm not sure why you'd want the front and back to be at different heights, though! And it definitely shouldn't be trying to account for any inclines in the road! You might have problems there if it's doing that!
@chrisperyagh
Жыл бұрын
It was a 1990 XM (3.0 V6 Si), so chances are there was something wrong as it was plagued with problems. It happened when I wanted to load something and reversed the back onto the kerb to raise the tailgate higher, but the suspension had other ideas and always wanted the car to remain horizontal regardless of the incline. It had GS spheres fitted when I bought it and that only came to light when I had them replaced a couple or so years afterwards.
And from that day on, nobody could get into his garage.
Remember you do these experiments so I don't have to try them at home.
You should try with the left wheel
@UPnDOWN
Жыл бұрын
I might, but I don't think that's the issue. I stood on the left side and it made no difference.
Oh gosh! and you wonder why these cars will seek revenge on you one day 😅
Just asking but don"t you do the transmission damage when you put it in neutrar while it's still moving?
@UPnDOWN
Жыл бұрын
I'm unsure. At higher speeds in older transmissions you could, but in this I'm not sure. In any case, it's only as you're coming to a rest; it's not freewheeling for any real distance.
Can we do it in a C5 ? I was Wow when you entered the car like that and it managed to stay in equilibrium ... why the empty hub don't retracted ? that's a lot of stuff under that wheel hub When we have a flat tyre on a hydro , that wheel dont go to down to the rim ... And another reason we must do this trick on a back wheel : it's front wheel drive , so it's better you can drive and turn lol . One time a wood screw punctured my rear right tire on my 96 Xantia Break 1.9TD (left hand drive,no ABS) on the highway , I didn't feel or heard a thing at 120Km/h, get out of the highway and while turning left in the roundabout I sensed that the back was strange and heard the flat tyre make some noise . Stop to check it , see the screw damaged , continue to drive another 2km to my garage and fixed the tyre . more recently in a recent rental aircross something , same thing append ,but I feel the stability problem even before the tire light cames on, and because it's a rental they remove the spare tire (or it's a option ), had to pass 2 gas stations to refill the tire to manage to get to a "agreed" tyre shop ... So Hidropneumatic 4ever :D
So it only works in theory, so this isn't a real Citroën anymore if you can't drive it on three wheels. This applies to the hydraulic suspension Citroëns.
