    leonardo tavarez Nice mate. Good to hear that the great features of this board seem to work well for lots of people at different sizes. Everyone who rides is seems to give the same feedback. Thanks for your input and hope your getting some good waves. Good on you still managing to ride the 5'10" at 46 thats good going wish I could myself 👍

    Ryan The Rock hey mate. Yeah I could have gone down a size really. That's pretty high on the volume even for me but funny thing is it doesn't feel that beefy and actually rides really nice. Kinda has me wondering if it would be epic a touch shorter or if it's actually good as it is. Especially in our weak waves it performs great for my ability and doesn't feel like all that much more more volume than some of my boards with a couple of litres less. Think ideally I would have liked a either a custom 5 fin 2 litres down maybe when the stock 6'2" but I'm actually really happy with that way it rides. It's not that wide a nose for a board that's supposed to be a groveller think for the average guy in average waves it's more of a daily driver .. cheers.

    Debating between this and the Lost Uber Driver XL as a travel board/board for slightly bigger days on the UK East coast (I have a bean bag grovel board). It lacks punch here even on bigger days though so struggle to get into waves on a shortboard. It sounds like you really rate the lost but also sounds like it needs quite specific waves? So I guess my questions are: Which paddles best? How does performance differ? Which is the better allrounder? I'm 5'11 190lbs so guess I'd be looking at 6'2" in both... Cheers!

    Hey mate , thought I had replied on this one sorry.. To be honest depending on the size of waves your expecting and your style etc I would probably consider a Quiver or Psycho Killer they might be a touch less responsive but they go in a good range of waves. Kinda depends on weight to volume ration too as to how much they will grip. I ride pretty high volume for my weight so have to be careful to keep them from sliding out. You weight exactly the same as me so should find similar results. The Uber XL is a great little performer but probably has a bit more of a wave size sweet spot. It's not going to generate masses of it's own speed in slow smaller waves. The Rocket wide will make a bit more speed but it's possibly also not ideal if the wave size steps up to decently overhead depending on the spot etc. Rocket wide has a lot of volume under the back foot which is great for when you do want it.. I think either could sit really nicely above your bean bag if your sticking to RW or Uber Xl but if your getting into decently overhead and heavier waves maybe other options might have an edge but mainly head to head and a bit and not crazy heavy waves either would be good. Rocket wide is a little more smaller wave still perform decent orientated, Uber is a bit more daily driver fair to decent quality waves chest to a bit overhead I rekon but that's just my opinion. Cheers.

    @@lawson45uk No worries, cheers for the reply! I ended up going with a Seaside in the end! Partly after seeing your videos raving about it... Maybe not a perfect step up board, but should be great 80% of the time at home and abroad. Had a couple of surfs on it so far and holy heck, it absolutely flies!! Will take a little getting used to, but I'm already in love with it! Cheers 🤙

    Thanks Mike. I'm 5'7" 84 Kg's and i'm ok but still pretty average and our waves are very slow..I'm 42 and not all that fit too :-) lol so I tend to ride volume that would work fine for a heavier guy to make up for the waves and my lack of fitness and ability. I usually range 40-45 litres on shortboards. 40-43 shortboard/hybrid and 42-45 grovellor depending on what's available and what it's made form .. Poly go higher epoxy lower end if that helps. I tend to like around 5'11" to 6'4" in length too. I have mates that surf the other coast and ride my volume or less that are 6ft and nearer 100kgs If I were at a decent break the size down would be sweet for me and if I had ordered custom I would have probably gone this length but knocked 1/8 out of the thickness and got it in a 5 fin.. I just really liked the look of the board in the shop and they had a good offer on. The outline and rocker and everything looked spot on for me at the 6'4" length. It actually carries that extra volume ok too as the nose and tail are well blended .. The nose is not that wide compared to what i'm used to to be honest so that's what steered me to the 6'4" and at 6'4" i wouldn't really call it a groveller either I would probably pull this board out for chest to overhead waves here but it's a very flat faced wave mainly long-boarders as I say. The JS Psycho Nitro is worth a look too not that dissimilar boards both wide in the middle but with a nice tuck in nose and tail .. Depending on what your used to of course... CI boards almost always lean a bit more to performance in general especially on the scaled pro models. This is very easy to ride forgiving and still flows and performs really nicely cheers.

    GO SURF this reminds me of my friends "Mark Richards" twin I rode in 83. It went like a bomb . At 5'5.5" and weighing 68kg I never rode more than 5'8" in this shape and its amazing. I've bought a blank and shaping this board at 5'8" now but guessing the tail to be about 8 inches??? can you give me the tail width please? thanks for the video review

    Hey mate sorry for the late reply just finding comments that slipped the net. Hope you went well with your own shaping. Done a few myself since then. I ride big boards so most of mine are around the 16" tail at 12" up not sure on the pin to pin on this one it's way more pulled in than a fish dont have it any more but yeah 8-10 would be a good guess for a smaller wave but not tracky retro swallow. Cheers.

    How would you compare the Quiver Killer rails to the rails on this Rocket Wide?

  • @lawson45uk

    @lawson45uk

    5 жыл бұрын

    Ryan The Rock Hi Ryan. Yeah quite different in the rail thickness .. keep in mind that the rocket wide is higher volume though at 44.5. The rocket wide is definitely thicker, wider and more boxy in the tail so good speed and flow but has a lower top end to its wave height. The quiver killer has a more even volume distribution and shape and thins out a lot in the tail to help with grip. Again. My quiver killer is custom so a touch thicker and I have seen the rocket wide in the size below and it looks quite different but for me the rocket wide is more based around being still reasonably narrow nose and quite a wide high volume tail the quiver killer is pretty balanced and a performance hybrid for a wider range of waves. They would both ride from around the waist to chest high rocket wide doing slightly better at the lower end and I would say both would ride in head plus. Probably upto head and a half or double for the quiver killer. Rocket maybe head an a half at a push depending on the size and volume. Both do what they're designed to do very well. Rocket wide to me is a nice performance small wave board waist to just over head quiver killer is an all rounder with a large wage range probably chest to well overhead comfort range. Hope that helps.

    Not sure the spine tech will feel like 40 litres if it's 38. The board model is quite thick under the back foot compared to many others though. If your concerned go a custom and get you 40 litres. EPS might feel like .5-1 litre more probably more likely. Board model paddes decently though.

    Nice! I'm guessing your around 80KG plus? I liked the Faning Large or AM Large for a tri option and the AM, MR or Power twin as a twin and trailer. loosest to most grippy respectively for the twins. There are similar options in Futures. I liked it as a thruster myself. Cheers.

    Personally liked the psycho killer better as it’s a bit more suited to being an all rounder and I like quads but there both good boards and in a similar category. Definitely rate both models but prefer the lost for me personally as it will ride as a quad or a thruster and handle a good range of waves and just really forgoing and does everything well. Hope that helps. Cheers.

    Would this board be suitable for beginner/intermediate?

  • @lawson45uk

    @lawson45uk

    polkadot Hi. Intermediate for sure in a good size for your weight and height it's a good paddler. Would actually make a really good surfboard in a size like this which is quite big relative to my height and weight. A Beginner should really be on something like a mini Mal for the first year ideally but after that and to get a taste of shortboarding yeah I think this would be ok. Cheers.

    How would you compare this with the JS Psycho Nitro?

  • @lawson45uk

    @lawson45uk

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sorry for the late reply only just getting round to checking for the messages I have missed. Yeah similar but different.. Psycho Nitro is a little more fishy up front but narrows up in and thins out in the tail. Rocket wide is a little more narrow in the nose but is really thick under the back foot. Both great boards depends on what suits you best. Both have some good speed and glide built in but still perform. If I could only have one short board for waves upto say head high or a bit more these would probably be on my top few models list. I personally got on a little better with the Psycho but I like a quad generally and used to a forward wide point and bigger nose. For my ability and where I surf the Rocket Wide is almost as performance as I would need for most of the time. The Psycho is a great board too both easy to ride. just need to have a look at the boards the rockers the volumes and lengths your looking at Epoxy Or Pu etc and make a call on what suits you best. If you want a similar board with a bigger wave range than either I really love the Lost Psycho Killer too so maybe another one to consider. Thanks.

    @@lawson45uk Check out the review by Noel Salas, he surfs the rocket wide even smaller and is heavier than me. Even less volume per weight than me. I am 43 years old. Also check the detail he goes into about the entry, exit rocker, wide point and fins.

    Ryan Llewellyn yeah Noel is awesome. He's ex QS I believe so super good surfer. Love his reviews. Actually what inspired me to have a go. I'm 42 but not a very good surfer at all and in extrekely soft waves here. To the sage where people make fun for even trying to rode a short board sometimes then on reviews people say I'm riding a boat 😢 🤣lol whatever works for the individual as long as they are having fun aye. The attributes of a particular board in general carry over pretty well. There are a lot of people have to ride these boards in a fairly high volume though so it's kinda nice to have both ends to relate to 👍 thanks for watching Ryan 🤙

    Thats a MAssive board.. 44 liters ...omg ...too much volume 4 u.... thats crazyyy... try it in 6´0´´ with 35 or 36 litres max... ... and youll be more happy and surf it like its meant for... 6´4´´ is overkill- are u 260 pounds ? u look not tall at all. so u r killing your perfonmance with a 6´4´´ with a board is meant to surf and sloppy small waves.... if u are a starting to surf , then thats a good choice... but if you are med to advance u just made a really bad choice in lenght and volume... my 2 cents dog. cheers

    MOTOKITER71 hey mate. Yeah I have had a lot of boards and know what works for me and what doesn't. Unfortunately I'm at a spot that's renound for being slow and fat and is dominated by longboard and sup but it's my local and I can walk to the beach. Also had a back surgery not young not fit and were often in 4/3 gloves boots and hood. It's very hard to get most boards going at all here .. really should be surfing other waves but still like to ride shortboards when I can so I do. Your advice is definitely what shapers and shops would say though. My mate moved away from here and he's gone straight down to around the 35 litres that would were saying and has no bother. Thanks for the input though . I have been out on this board the other day in head high with the wages punchy for us and it went well. It's actually not very different from someting like a quiver killer at this size. This actually has a sharper nose and just as much rocker so for me it's been going good in waves chest up. If I had gone custom I would have knocked a couple of litres off but I looked at the size below and it looked small. Cheers for your comments Though don't mind when its constructive we can all learn something from each other. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
