Yeah been trying to decide between pyzalien and phantom and this sold me. Especially since we’re similar body size. I’m 215 5’11 so I think I’ll go up to the 6’2. Thanks buddy

@@michaelmote2362 I think the Pyzalien will be more versatile than the Phantom.If I was your weight I would personally ride 35.5 - 36L at a very minimum. If you surf better than me you could go down a little and if not as good then go up a touch. Hope that helps. Enjoy the Pyzalien, its a great board.

Randomly I threw in a Pancho Control trailer fin in one of my Pyzels with pinched rails (exterior EA blackstix, I’m 87kg as well) that would catch a bit and it solved the full speed turn rollover. Just needed a bit more surface area but I can still feel a bit of the drive from the Blackstix.

Thanks for the review Wooly! Do you reckon this would be a good option to add to my quiver of FireWire Seaside and Pyzel Phantom? Was looking for something that could handle hollow beachies with some size a little better and reckon this might be the go. Cheers, Rick (PS for me the Seaside is great as a groveller and for fuller waves and the Phantom loves to carve on point breaks)

Hi mate. Yes that sounds like a good plan. The Pyzalien 2 will sit nicely between those two boards. I found it best in waves chest high to slightly overhead and it loved a punchy section!

Yeeeewww! I love mine! Riding Roberts Large fins on it most of the time here in Cali, AM2s when better. Board is really fast, more drive than most boards I've ever ridden. Also works amazing as a quad with Roberts and HS quad rears. Wooly how much do you weigh? I sized mine right at shortboard dims. Actually feels like a forgiving and super fun and good high performance shortboard/driver. It does it all.

Hey awesome review man! I think I’m deciding on this board. It’ll be my first shortboard. I’m riding right now a 7’6 fun board and can ride it quite well but I wanna step it down for a shortboard for when we get the decent swells in NE. What length would you recommend for a guy that’s 6’1 225lbs. I was thinking of the 6’6 but not sure if after riding it and getting used to it I’d regret not getting a bit shorter/lower volume. Thanks!

Hi Mate, Sorry for the delayed reply! The biggest mistake you will make is dropping down too soon. Its more about the volume than the length. What volume is your 7'6"?

Thanks for the great review! Do you have any advice on the tail pad placement? I've tried to get the pad right back so that the kick pad starts at the back of the centre fin if that makes sense, but the leash plug is quite far forward on this board. I noticed your grip was a little further forward.. can you offer any advice on best placement? Thank you

Hi mate I find if I put the tail pad right back then I never use the kick! In the perfect world, your back foot should be right in the middle of the fins (on a thruster). So in theory, you could have the kick over the back fin - but that’s looks funny so most people have it somewhere in the middle of those two points. Hope that helps. Wooly

Awesome review! My experience has been a little different with it. I ride it as a quad and it is my main small wave board. Incredibly fast in small waves as a quad. Mine is a little on the high side volume wise though for me, which might be part of why I like it so well in weak surf. If there’s more swell or more power I would rather ride a standard hpsb.

Maybe it’s the quad. I don’t usually ride quad’s. I tried this board first as a tri fin, but I never do that anymore. All my other boards are tri fins only.

Hey Wooly love my P2 but has its limits when it starts to pump so I think a Shadow might be the next step up from the P2. The P2 is very user friendly. What’s your thoughts on jumping from a P2 to Shadow? Is the Shadow pretty easy to surf? The transition from one to the other is not a huge difference? Thanks mate yeeeeew

Hi mate. Glad you like the P2. If you like that one maybe give the Astro Pop a go? I haven’t ridden one yet but they look good. CI Rocket Wide went very well for me in small surf. The new JS Sub Xero looks good too.

Which would you choose for a board to sit about my CI Rocketwide, either the Monsta 2020 Easy Rider or the Pyzalien 2? Surfing South Coast NSW.

Hi mate., Im not too familiar with the Rocketwide but it looks to be quite a groveller. So both the MB and the Pyzalien 2 would be above that in wave range. The Pyzel will surf up probably up a touch more than the JS and the JS will be better than the Pyzel in the smaller stuff. Hope that helps. Hey Mate, I have just landed the new JS Monsta 2020 and Monsta Box 2020 both in a squash tail in the PU construction. I would say the Monsta Box and Pyzalien 2 are very similar but the Monsta Box can be surfed in a bit more grovelly conditions where as the Pyzalien 2 can be ridden in a bit bigger surf but struggles in the real small stuff. I think the Pyzalien 2 would surf better in overhead surf and the Holy Grail would be better on the lower scale. I personally like the Pyzalien better but i dont think it would grovel small waves for me. Hope that helps Wooly

@@WoolyTV Yeah pretty much. Being a bigger guy i generally dont bother paddling out unless its at least chest high (i'm 6'5 100kg). Head high is ideal and i enjoy overhead if its a slower wave at a point. It's also probably worth noting the board sizes i can get my hands on: - Pyzalien 2 XL = 6'4 x 21 x 2.875 (41L) - Raging Bull (easy rider) = 6'4 x 20.875 x 3 (42.4L) or 6'6 x 21.5 x 3.06 (45.7L) Intermediate surfer, after something easy to surf that gets me in earlier than everyone but can still progress on.

Have you ridden a rare bird by chilli? If so how did it compare to the pyzalien 2 in over head? Thanks brother

Hi There - Question for ya: If the waves are consistently shoulder high and above, would you recommend this board? I already have a step up for when it gets heavy but I'm looking for something for when it's a little too small for my step up. Thoughts?

Hi Paul Well you are lucky!!! I loved the Pyzalien, it just felt like a board that I could jump straight on and just surf the same I normally do. Its the perfect board for shoulder high to well over head. Its def not a groveller, its suited to head high surf with the nice low rails through the tail. Its a perfect board to sit under a step up. Where do you normally surf? Cheers Wooly

@@mathiasgiacardy785 Hi mate, when you say 4 to 5’ do you mean wave faces shoulder to head high? If so, then the Pyzalien would be great. If you want something between the Pyzalien and the Ghost then maybe a Shadow?

Hi mate Both were really good boards. Air 17x would surf down to the smaller stuff a little better and the Pyzalien would surf up to overhead surf a bit better. Hope that helps

The MB in smaller surf, but both pretty similar in shoulder high or bigger. I found the MB to grovel better and the P2 better when overhead.

How does board compare again the js bb3 or mb2020? Trying to get a good all round 1 quiver board. Not sure which one between bb3, mb2020 or pyzalien would be best for waist to head high beach breaks? Love you channel, keep up the great work.

Thanks mate. What type of waves did you mainly surf? Waist to head high punchy beach breaks or are they lacking power? If the weaker side then the BB3, if they have a bit of punch the Mbox. I found the Pyzalien 2 worked best above shoulder high and had a bigger upper range than the Mbox.

Some south of Perth, some in the metro area and a little up north. Not trying to be a dick but I think its better if we don't name spots. I like to travel and surf without upsetting the locals.

You need to state your height and weight. Hard to know what you mean when you are talking about relative dimensions otherwise

I'm thinking of getting the Pyzalien 2 at 6’2” x 20.00” x 2.63” | 34.90 Liters I'm an intermediate working on my advanced maneuvers. I noticed you said at 7:25 that if you would go back you'd get the 6'2". My skill level isn't nearly where you're at so I'm tripping that those dims aren't quite for me. Do you just like to ride with more volume in your boards, given your skill level?? For reference, I got a 6'0" CI Rocket Wide (6’0" x 20.5" x 2.75" | 37.0L) and I love it! I think the Pyzalien 2 would be a great intermediary to move down to. For reference, I live in Indo. There's definitely a case to be made that I should ride a Pyzel Ghost but I'm not sure I'm ready to get a high-performance shortboard like that just yet.
