Thanks for this video. Just ordered a motor for my Soul after is was "normal" for it to burn 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles and it blew with 88k miles. This video was very helpful!

I'm having to engine swap mine on my 2015. Unfortunately it's a rebuilt title and the KNOWN issue of the number 2 lifter locking the engine up somehow isn't considered a recall, so now I've got a new engine to put in. Thank you for this informative video!

@@ForsakenSteelThere is a class action lawsuit against Hyundai/Kia for engines having excessive oil consumption. Hyundai/kia are not doing anything to address this issue for excessive engine oil consumption.

It's been a couple years but if my memory serves me right I didn't remove it. Make sure you sull the hood though. 😂

I have a 2016 Kia Soul 2.0 liter gdi engine that is using excessive amounts of oil. I'm having someone replace the piston rings to correct the issue. These engines use low tension piston rings which allows them to carbon up & burn oil. Low tension piston rings & gdi don't go well together. Mine is still under the cpo warranty from Kia, but I'm not letting them touch the engine for these reasons the dealer told me. The dealer can perform a free oil consumption test if they verify it's using oil. It's a $600.00 charge to try decarbing the engine first. If that doesn't fix it, it's $1,600.00 to teardown the engine, so they can verify the failure. When they teardown the engine they will deny it for carboned up piston rings. These pistons rings are the failure, but they will deny it for carbon & leave the customer on the hook.

I'm sorry to hear you are having all these problems too. It's really unfortunate that Kia doesn't do better with these engines. I feel it's a defective engineering problem. I really enjoyed driving this thing. It was a lot of fun. I bought it at auction with the bad engine but didn't know much about them. Now I know much much more and I'm not impressed with the Kia brand. I'm not saying I won't buy another one. However if I do I will know what to look for. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I dropped it but someone had already changed it. Probably trying to "undo" the damage.

I have a 2016 Kia Soul with a blown engine. Can this motor be pulled from overhead with a cherry picker? I don’t have a lift.

I do believe so. However the hood really needs to be taken off. I didn't and regretted it.

If you're gonna pull an engine, take the damn hood off. I don't care what the car is. It's always easier. Well done though!

My mom's kia uses so much oil. Any tips to fix or does kia not make a good engine. I personally have a honda civic. Always thought that kia was kinda cheap

They just burn a lot of oil. As long as you keep oil in them they are ok but definitely not good. They are adorable at time of purchase though.

I got a question did you do all of this in one day? And I have a 2016 stick shift. Can I put an automatic engine same here without any problems?

I had about 3 days in this but if you had a better work environment you could do it in one long day. I'm not sure if the engines are the same but I can't imagine it's any different. Hope that helps.

This was a repo so it probably lived a hard life. However if I wanted to make a career out of Kia engine swaps I don't think I would have to look hard to find more work.
