Thank you for your video! I scanned my '07 Avalon 3.5L and it was a P0420. I had already replaced the O2 sensor on bank 1 ahead of the converter, so I replaced the O2 sensor after the converter on bank 1. CEL went off and then came on later. I saw your video, went to the part store, bought the cleaner, and rented an O2 removal tool. I sprayed the cleaner in 5 times at 5-10 minute intervals and sprayed the O2 sensor. I cleared the previous code and started the engine, and after a couple of minutes, the CEL went out. Hopefully, it's fixed. Thanks again!!. A final thought. For people who try this, as you are spraying the cleaner into the O2 sensor hole, make sure that the little tube that pushes into the spray button does not fall into the hole. You would be in trouble!

Just wondering if I have to remove the bottom sensor as well? I already popped off the top one and I have the throttle body cleaner but I don't want to spray it in there and have it catch fire. Do I have to remove the downstream one as well or only put it in the top and clear out the the honeycomb? I inspected it with a flashlight in the Combs look perfectly fine

Always disconnect the o2 sensor wire connector. If you don't you'll be buying another, the wires twist, stretch, or break resulting in o2 error codes.

You basically want anything that’s going to eat carbon diesel fuel, purple power, optimizer GM top in cleaner, the foam spray and you really want to use a whole can on it and just let it set that GM Pop in Cleaner if you spray the cylinder or a cat and let it sit overnight And then the following day get the cleaner out look at it with a borescope camera. He looks brand new in there the GM top in cleaner optimizer for Chryslers that is for carbon cleans. It breaks the carbon down into dust you could D carbon your motor with water it’s a old-school trick, I’m not going to explain it how it’s done or watt temperatures or anything of the sort because if you’ve never done it, you can destroy a motor it’s the old-school trick and the old guys out there know what I’m talking about they’ll know exactly carbon and water. Don’t get along with each other who loses the battle the carbon does, this is how they done it before we had all these chemicals all old-school tracks there’s still out there we still use them. They work on modern days now computerized a lot of times you still have to use them. There’s guys out there that knows the tricks and lotta guys don’t like to give their tricks up they don’t believe in letting their information out And I’m one of them because if somebody does something wrong I’m liable I could be sued because they’ve done it wrong. The way the world is now everybody wants to sue and there’s one say payday is what they say not on my clock. I’ve told a lot of these guys it put a KZread videos out. You got a watch it because you put that information out and somebody does it wrong you’re liable That’s why I don’t put a Videos out because there’s too many people out there that don’t use common sense no more that’s the number one reason they can’t think on her own and the new generation out there is coming in the automotive they think the scanner is the god that code is the problem. The thing is they need to learn how to read the scanner read the data That scanner disappoint you in a direction. Where are the problems that and then you got a figure it out you have to diagnose it because the scanner will tell you if it’s electrical problem mechanical problem, sensor problem or internal problem it’s all in the way it’s worded, you have to know how to read between the lines And have enough background in the automotive to figure it out or diagnose it and a lot of guys out there. Just want to throw parts at him all day long and just say check engine light used to thousand dollars worth of parts at it still not fixed it could be a loose pin. It could be a bad ground. It could be a broken wire, or it could be were a mouse chewed on the wires why do you have to get a meter out and start diagnosing it nowadays that is a bad word to people they don’t want to hear diagnose in a vehicle. They just want to throw parts at it and go people need to learn how to take a step back idle down take some time fix it, right Yeah there’s some vehicles were you have to have a part known good part for a test part for a quick test to determine OK which is it here? If you’re in a time frame you can throw that part on there OK spit out another code OK that wire is good but it’s not. It helps you that’s all I’m a say and then you just have to figure it out yourself. and people need to learn how to pronounce catalyst system not Cadillac.

I got 2011 gmc terrain 2.4l it was stalling and losing power sometimes when going up hill I took it to Buick and GMC at highland Indiana they told me the mix is rich and they will change high pressure fuel pump and the repair would cost me $800 with part included. I told them I will do it another time not today. So I go home watch youtube videos on how to change the high pressure fuel pump ordered the part from rock auto for $200 bought tools from Walmart and Amazon did it myself I even changed the oil. After all that it was still stalling and losing power like usual. So I thought maybe it was spark plug so I changed them myself same problem then I changed both solenoids same problem. Until came across a video about catalytic converter issues. So I watched your video too because I didn’t want take down the cat to clean it so remove the upstream 02 sensor went to Walmart bought some Lacquer thinner use a flex hose and funnel and pour Lacquer thinner in. Then I use mass sensor cleaner and clean o2 sensor too. After putting back everything in place I turn on the car it was smoking a lot then after about 10 mins the smoke clear and I took it for a drive around the block then up some hills everything work well no more stalling and losing power. Thank you for the idea to put the cleaner through the upstream o2 sensor slot. Bless you and all the other KZreadrs helping us out by sharing your knowledge. Thank you my brother.

I have a 13 Mitsubishi Lancer with a horizontal cat. I had a p0420 code come on about a year ago. I tried a bottle cataclean about 4 months ago and the code went away for a day and came right back. About 2 months ago I removed the front o2 sensor and sprayed about 2.5 cans of seaform top end cleaner into the cat. I made tons of smoke and it took about 10 to 15 minutes to burn off but did nothing. Well just today I bought 6 cans of Berryman carb/fuel system cleaner (90oz) and poured them into the cat via a flexible funnel (through front o2 hole again). Chased it with a tank of compressed air. Since it says the Berryman is highly flammable I then added about 1/2 to a gallon on purple power cleaner/degreaser to the cat and chased it with compressed air again. I didn't pay attention to the check engine light when I first started it up but when I did, probably about 30 seconds after startup, there was no check engine light on. Hopefully it lasts but the procedure I described worked for me immediately for a stubborn light that was on for about a year.

I got the P0420 error on my used 2016 CRV in January end. Took it to the dealer and he charged for check engine light and erased the code via ECM/PCM. The error came back again after 4 weeks and just when I thought of going back to the dealer the code/check engine light itself disappeared for a week but came back again a couple days back. I took it to the dealer today and he says technician checked o2 sensor and exhaust leak and they are not a problem. He has given me an estimate now for catalytic converter change and has quoted close to $1700! I do not have the budget now and would like to try this method or May be try any other liquid catalytic cleaner via gas intake. A local mechanic suggested to try erasing the code 3 times before taking any decision spending so much money. What are your thoughts please or what do you suggest what best liquid cleaner I can try now???

Would it be crazy to use gunk cleaner and then spray it out as that helps to move the oil through or with the catalytics cleaner spray work just fine? I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 liter. The catalytic converter is horizontal. I checked the graph on the diagnostic tool. The second O2 sensor was erratic. I removed the O2 sensors and cleaned them with the throttle body cleaner. I then sprayed through the #1 sensor hole. I emptied two cans and stuck a air hose in it and blew it out for a few minutes.Since the throttle body cleaner is highly flammable,I decided to stick the hose of a wet/dry vac in the tailpipe and let it run over an hour. I then installed the O2 sensors and started it up. The diagnostic tool shows the #2 O2 sensor is rock solid at 0.015 volts, regardless of the throttle position. I call that a win.If the P0420 comes back, I will post it but, I think this is cured. Some people are using laquer thinner in the tank.Don’t Do That It can damage a lot of parts from the fuel pump to the injectors.Bad advice as far as I am concerned. Thanks for the video. Each person will have to adapt your proceedure to their individual vehicle but, this works very, very well.

If your cat is clogged, if there is anything else clogged or dirty inside the whole system the additive goes through, it actually helps. If the cat is physically damaged: melted, broken - nothing will help other than getting a new one. Just get 4-5 cans of a reputable company's fuel additive that helps with a cat and youre set. thank you for this vidio, I have a Camry 2011 xle, I had engine light on for sensors( P0138) , the mechanic changed 2 oxygen sensors. after changing second oxygen sensor , engine code popped up again with P0420 catalyst convertor error, could you please advise? I think it is because of second senor that he changed is not working properly!

You can start with this method but if the catalytic converter has overheated on the inside it will melt the honeycomb and you'll have the code returning over and over usually after a few days or so sometimes a little more. Another thing you can try is when you get to a half a tank of gas full literally buy a gallon of lacquer thinner and pour it in the gas tank and then fill it the rest of the way to a full tank of gas and drive 150 Miles or more on the highway or use a tool to set your RPM at about 4,000 for 30 minutes and it will clean out the cat., Although the best way is to take the cat. off the car and soak the lacquer thinner through the entire catalytic converter from top to bottom and then use a soap solution( like some dish soap or liquid laundry detergent and water to clean that out afterward then spray out with hose and let it dry and then reinstall it. If you're just trying to pass smog most of those ones that claim it will clear the code like cataclean or CRC etc. will work to clear the code to pass smog but usually the check engine light will come back on later which is fine if you can get your smog certificate and register the car. I've done this and it works but again if it is melted on the inside it will only clear at temporarily and to do a long-term fix you would need to replace the cat any welder at a muffler place that does catalytic converters could tell you if it's melted buy inspecting it from the outside. As crazy as it may seem, if you Google it,it will literally come up with the voice confirming that it works stating verbally the paragraph with instructions of the lacquer thinner method. If your catalytic converter is not melted then I would recommend doing this every 3 months to keep it from ever needing to be replaced.
