$1,200 Auction Win Kia Soul! Let’s fix it

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A broken Kia???? Whaaaaat? No way 😒.
Anyway, here we have the latest thing in the shop, and with a very brief inspection it was determined the engine was junk. Rather it be from a cracked or blown gasket. The overall engine just didn’t look healthy so we made the decision to just replace the whole engine. A low mile engine was cheap enough, and didn’t take long to swap out. So let’s get it done, get it ready, and move on to the next one !
Thanks for watching!

    I know so little about Kias, but with them going for $600 at auction I might have to look. Although I think I’m not missing anything. 4.0s run forever and that’s a downside. Finding a used motor is impossible because of them all having 200k+ miles on them. Hope all goes well with repairs and sales.

    Overall that little Soul is in good shape, that 2.0 Beta engine is worth a head job( they were good engines), make sure you replace the thermostat and make sure the top tank on the radiator didn't split.

    I bought a brand new Elantra in 2010 with this same exact engine - it was a great car aside from it constantly eating transmissions! I sold the car at 97,000 miles because it was about to run out of warranty. This is the Beta II engine, which really is quite bulletproof, but low on power. These engines have variable timing on the intake cam only.

    I've had my 2014 Kia Soul since it was new. So far 136,000 miles no issues. Only money I've had to put into it has been regular maintenance. Only thing it needs is a ABS sensor thats the only part that has failed. The moment it ever gives trouble I'll get rid of it. But its been a great car. I'd buy defiantly buy another.

Moral of the story is it a lot better to a motor swap then a headgasket repair

    Well they added an extra quart of diesel so it's way over filled. The pressure sensor is probably triggered by either under OR over pressure, this one will be running over pressure at that point. Definitely could still have low pressure/worn bearings from a bunch of known issues w/ that engine family though.

  • @MXguy95

    @MXguy95

    Жыл бұрын

    The 4.0 is directly related! Coming from the same AMC family but with a smaller 242 CI block. AMC put it together with parts from previous inline 6 they had built and put it in the cherokees in 87 as a “Renix” 4.0 this worked ok. But it wasn’t as loved as the early 90s revised motors. And then another updated version in the later 90s. They dropped the distributor and went to coil on plug ignition around 2001 and kept that going for a few more years until finally retiring the engine altogether (stupidest thing they could have done) but it was time for a redesign and Mercedes Chrysler introduced the 3.7 as the replacement. That went on for over half a decade before being phased out for the pentastar 3.6 which is still used today.

    How'd the 2014 turn out? Those Theta 2 GDIs are a rats nest of problems... drain back out of the oil filter, gunked up intakes, gunked up rings, scoring, fires, you name it. The older tbelt port injected engines are much, much better for longevity. Congrats on the 2011 flip, hopefully it makes someone a nice little runabout. I would just be careful buying anything 2.0 or 2.4 GDI Hyundai or Kia made after 2010, thats when the failure prone engines hit. Engines are unobtainium because they all fail and HK have been battling with recalls n service campagns for years. But like BMW 2.0 turbos, there are millions of cars w/ failed engines and nowhere near enough engines to go around which is why they are worthless.

    My current 2013 soul+ has 200k on it and still drives great. I bought it new with 180 miles. I've done oil changes, brakes, bushings, starter, blower motor, timing chain, and that's about it. The starter was replaced under warranty. I put 165k on it by 2019, but I don't drive as much as I used to since I became disabled. It's got a lifter tap that it's had forever that magically goes away on its own, and it probably needs struts, but I just don't drive enough anymore to justify the expense. Edit - The lifter was operator error in 2019. I was in the hospital and rehab for a couple months so a friend borrowed it. The pcv clogged and it burned a bunch of oil quickly. She drove it with very little oil for a while and it's had a noisy lifter on the passenger side since then.
