I surprised my dad by LS swapping his 1966 Buick Skylark for his birthday!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My great grandfather purchased this 1966 Buick Skylark brand new. I always knew it as my great grandmothers car because he passed on well before I was born. It was passed on to their youngest son and then to my father. He enjoyed it for a couple years and a pesky main seal leak turned into an entire rebuild on the engine. That was 17 years ago and it has been sitting without an engine. With the help of some Holley Performance parts lets see if we can surprise my father with an LS drivetrain in this family heirloom! No, this one is NOT FOR SALE! As always, thanks for watching!

Hey Mortske, I watched the entire video IN ONE SITTING . A story that is very important about you , your Dad and a favorite car of his as well as how much your Dad means to you. And that , Mortske , is GOLDEN !! And I really enjoyed all of it I believe your Dad is thrilled with this wonderful birthday gift you gave him. I am 68 and I've know men , had buddies , who are like your Dad . Men of few words . You know to look for other signs so as to gauge their emotions . "What the heck is that..an LS" ? ; "Holy Cow ; As you enumerated the components--- "you didn't have to go that far" , after sitting inside and starting it---" Very Nice" --"this took you awhile, didn't it"-- too loud for ya ?---"No"-- So happy belated birthday !!!-- "Very nice" . "So it's acceptable anyway" -- and the clincher "Oh it's a whole lot more than that" . He really likes the muscular , throaty sound . "3 inch is better as long as it all fits well underneath" . And the cherry on top--"This could be a really SWANKY (def: Imposingly fashionable and elegant) car once it's all polished up". He already is very impressed with the readout screen on the dash . Mortske , you hit it out of the park with this gift . You can be sure of that Bud !!! And in doing this you created and shared with us a memory that will always be there . Thank you for making and sharing this video with us , Mortske !!!!

I lost mine a year and half ago. We, coming from a typical Indian middle-class family, never had a 4-wheeler in the family. So when in Aug-2020 when I bought a new hatchback, right after first service of 500km, drove 350km to my hometown and surprised my father with it. I could see the pride in his eyes.

I just love the story and how neat your dad has everything setup as he tries to rebuild it until one of his sons takes it from him just to put a LS in it!!! Something completely different than he ever thought about having in it and then gets it all done just long enough for him to drive it around the block and then tell him he’s going to take it for a road trip!!! “It only needs what it needs.” Those are words to live by. The idea of putting a 140k mile LS in anything without a rebuild sounded crazy to me, but now I get it. It lowers the cost of admission. When I was wrenching, I always wanted everything perfect and therefore I spent MUCH more time working than I did driving and smiling. Mortske has the right philosophy. It sounds simple, but the words are genius. Thanks Mortske! Also, phenomenal job. Normally I identify with Duff in these comments. However. In this instance - this is a total labour of love. For your Dad. He’s so totally chuffed. It’s so very clear. What a huge achievement Mortske. & a grand pleasure to come along for the emotional ride. Cecil B DeMille, David Lean, Stanley Kubrick. & now Mortske & Chin productions. Better & more enjoyable content. Than most feature films. Duff & I bow our heads in humbleness. & how about ‘Mojo Tough’. 🙌🇳🇿

Awesome project you did for the old man. Really enjoyed the extended length content. Gets me through the daily grind called life. Even though he may be expressionless you could see a little excitement out of him. In his own little way. I'm sure just having his fathers car back on the road meant alot period, regardless of the engine. Especially like the "I'm sure this took you awhile". Lol. I'm sure he knows you busted your butt to get it done for him.

My dad was born in 1939, and loved his brand new dark blue 1966 Chevy Impala Station Wagon, with the 327 V-8, and a mobile Johnson tube CB Radio, every summer we drove from Moline, Illinois up to Hayward, Wisconsin for the great fishing. He was a chain smoker, and died at age 57. (1996). This video reminded me of my dad, now I'm 60 (born 1962) and miss him so much.

A great vid for sure. Gave a guy the warm fuzzies when you got it home to your Dads and your initial 'tension' evaporated when you got the physic 'thumbs up' from him! Top job Mortske. There's something to be said about dem LS's fer sure. Great that your family are hotrodders, so anything goes. Buick into that 'A' roadster sounds a good idea. Make a great co-lab vid with your Dad. His dry humour a great foil to your exuberance! I have a set of Buick/Olds 215 alloy V8 headers here which are a dead ringer for the 300 ones ( the one off on the table near identical). Maybe only port sizes smaller. Hope you enjoy the trip. Another good video we hope. How about "Built Mojo tough" for a logo idea?

Hey old long lost Brother, old Pal, old Friend of mine. I have a '66 2 door hardtop Skylark in as good of condition as your Dad's.. I'm 74, older than your Dad and would just love to have that pretty 300 that he has spent so much time on in my car. The 300 I have only has 87,000 on it, but it's not pretty....LOL.. I live in South Mississippi, when I saw that Clear Lake sign it made me think of pictures of my Dad building power lines in the snow in Clear Lake in 1947. I enjoyed your videos very much..
