Facebook Marketplace find $350 Ford Ranger. Let’s fix it

Here we go again. I gotta stay off the digital classifieds…. This time around while in the midst of working on the $500 ram, we snagged this $350 ford ranger! WITH A TITLE! It’s going to need some serious attention and love too, let’s crack into it and see what all this will take!

My toxic trait is watching this and then immediately searching Facebook marketplace for a cheap ranger thinking that I could just fix it up real quick

Hey go for it! you would be surprised how much is on youtube to fix cars. alot of it is common sense
as an old guy who LOVED working on cars and trucks, I can appreciate and respect all that you and your dad know- I used to LOVE to fix cars like you do... Of course, my cars were 60's cars- much more simple to diagnose and repair. THANKS for the entertaining and informative video.

Hey I really appreciate you checking out the video! We are thankfully to have so many positive folks like yourself chiming in. I learned most of what I know from guys like you, and then some tricks of my own I develop as I get older. If You ever have any advice for us, pull up a seat by the wood stove and I’ll make the coffee. Haha

Rangers are the most reliable smol truck out there, hands down. Fixes are extremely cheap, and the frames and bodies don't rust through like other trucks.
I know absolutely nothing about fixing cars but you're videos are great. Entertaining and dumbed down enough that I understand everything going on. Great job!

This is the type of Ranger I want! 4 banger, 2WD, 5 speed tranny, regular cab, XLT trim. These are AWESOME lil twucks!

Nothing better than a clapped out danger ranger! Been a long time since I’ve seen a clean one of these. Really liked that red one you fixed up years ago at the junk yard.

Bringing that little green ranger back to life looking great and it's also great to see a father and son working together and enjoying themselves working together
Love rangers, It’s always good to see another Ranger get a new release on life especially a rust free one, I’ve got a Vista Blue 2010 Fx4 off-road manual with the 4.0L
Reminds me of my '95 Ranger. Absolutely optionless. She wasn't quite as rough as this one, but we had our adventures together. It's awesome to see that there's still a few of these among the living. (I put the bigger Explorer rim on mine... so I love that idea)

Welcome! And thank you so much for stopping by to check out the videos. I appreciate that a lot!
Interesting thing about a lot of fords, the oil pressure "gauge" doesn't have a sending unit. It's just a pressure switch that sends the needle to half scale as long as the pressure is above its threshold. Notice how it just jumps there and doesn't vary with rpm
Some guys have all the luck! Great find Jay.

I really love the Rangers with the step side beds. To me that makes for a sexy truck. And for $350.00 and it runs? Hell yeah!!! I would have snapped that up in a heartbeat! I used to own a 99 Ranger 4x4 with the extended cab and step side bed. That little truck was a tank I can tell you! I owned it for 7 years till the 3.0 blew a head gasket. I was going to do the engine work till I looked at the frame and noticed a huge rot hole in the frame so I got rid of it. I'd love to get another one. I miss my truck.
I’m super jealous of people like you that can fix stuff
I’m glad I ran across this video, my ranger has been sitting for about 2 years now. I think I need to get her going again
Great job, good work...its nice to see youand your Dad taking the time to do things right.. looking for the next video on the Ranger...

It was just a lot of fun seeing you tinker on a $350 vehicle, and that one was as good a find as ever! Great job!
I bought a $350 Sentra out of someone's front yard three years ago, it ran and had a clear title. Still driving it. Most expensive repair so far? I just put new tires on it. Had to bang out some dents with a hammer and a dowel rod. PDR rules! ;) Love this kind of stuff.
$350 FOR A STICKSHIFT FORD RANGER THAT HAS A TITLE AND ISNT ROTTED OUT is a fucking steal of a deal that bed is worth more than the whole truck alone down here east coast
Truck's just fine. ;) The pliers are looking worse and they still work. That truck will probably take good care of you with some TLC. Doin' good work there!
Merry Christmas, Jay! I'm definitely a Ford Ranger fan for sure! Mine is a 2000 extended cab with a 3.0 V6. This has been a good engine at 360,000 miles and still going strong! This one is looking great and I know it will sell. I appreciate all you are doing to get this little truck back to life!

Very nice little rig!!
Those Ford Rangers where tough as hell. If it cranks, runs and shifts, it can be brought back cheap.
in 2015 I bought a 97 Ranger 4x4 extended cab for 600 dollars at a car auction. Looked good said it ran but they couldn't get it started. They originally wanted 1200 for it. I bought it jumped the solenoid and drove it away. Sadly it has a corrupted anti theft computer and was to expensive to replace so push button starter it became. I'm still driving that thing.
Congrats on 100k man I’ve been waiting for this moment for YEARS. I’ve been subscribed for years I LOVE the vids man keep it up
That’s a nice little truck. Little more ❤ & it could be a good keeper.
Nothing more satisfying then reviving a beater pickup. A bedliner would help, hides a lot of that damage.
I'm very impressed with this restoration.
Nice video. Don’t forget the headlights spruced up. Looking forward to video to on this Rager. Good job.
Great video as usual, Jay. I have a ranger with the duratec 2.3/manual. Bought it with 113k and discovered it burned oil shortly after. It threw a rod at 170k. I put a low mileage engine in it (66k) and this engine has held up much better after putting nearly 100k additional miles on it, but i agree: lima 2.3s are less problematic. Also, the coolant/heater hoses are overcomplicated and in awful locations for a Ranger. Cant wait to see part 2!
@ProjectFairmont
5 ай бұрын
What’s nice about the Duratec motor though, it’s smoother than the 2.3/2.5 and just as powerful as the 3.0 V6 while using less fuel.
Thanks for the video. You gave this one a lot of love and she’s grateful. The motor sounds good. I don’t know how is in your area but here in NJ and NY manual transmission is not very popular. Not everyone knows how to drive it and the ones that do rather not, too much traffic.
Love Ford rangers. Daily driver is a 96 XLT with the little jump seats in the back. Has the V6 4.0 engine but it's an automatic. It was my grandpa's truck before he passed and I'll never get rid of it.
Well, I'm late to the party it seems. I miss my Ranger but I don't miss the problems that came with it lol. I currently daily my 1965 Ford F-250, big mistake taking it on a road trip though. I'm currently at a rest stop in Ames Iowa, 300 miles from home, waiting on parts to arrive so I can rebuild the brakes in the middle of this parking lot. Yay.
I love the stepsides. That thing is screaming for a fusion 2.5 and manual trans swap with an 8.8 track loc ;) 😊

Good morning Jay good luck buddy
Love how you work with your dad!!
So, fun thing with the airbag light It's actually something that can be repaired by ford, for free, because it's the Takata Airbag recall, the big one on the news from about a year ago. IIRC from working at a dealership, its completely free, and dealerships who have mobile service can come out to YOU(if youre close enough), do the repair for you completely free of charge.
Good little rig.
I got a 03 2.3 Ranger and my temp gauge always reads cool. They have a electric thermostat which are known to fail and fall apart. If you have enough coolant I'd check the thermostat, especially if it had water not coolant in it and it ices up from cool weather, it will break it..
Liquid laundry detergent will clean the interior very well ! Even the cheap soap will work.
Great video. You seem to get some gems. That LA Awesome cleaner and Mean Green cleaner are two of the best out there. Cleaned up n flipped a few houses with my father using those two cleaners. Merry Christmas early
My father have the same model but double cab version back in the day Lot of memories with it 😅
Cool stuff guys!
Frist time to the channel you guys are very good thanks have a happy New Year to you and dad
I love step side trucks!
I have a 1992 I have owned since 2000. 247k 2.3, manual. Thing still does not burn oil. But it has rusted out the brake lines twice and it even rusted out the battery cables twice and one of the alternator bolts rusted off, mechanically is bullet proof like you said. Currently one of the shock towers rusted out and the floor pans are now gone. But the parts are sooooooo cheap ! I think I bought all new floor pans, shock towers, and radiator support for about $400. Also...............yes my light is completely gone.
My first ride was a ranger, same color, I love those little trucks, def on my wishlist to find a used one near me, keep on rocking man
Awesome video, great work! Wish I could get you guys to fix my cars 😂

A worn but not crusty Ranger is a heckuva find. Especially at that price! If you kept her you could have a matched pair with your MR2. If you still have that. At least it looks "close" to that green.
