My Mom used to wear Chanel No 5 in the 1960s. ...When I smell it, I always think of my Mom (a great person)....Chanel No 5 is a CLASSIC.

Dacob, your reviews are the best. My mother wore Chanel No 5, and she always smelled divine. I still remember what the perfume smelled like in the 70s. The current formulation is nothing like what is currently sold.

Dacob, where DID YOU FIND THIS GEM? Omg, your collection is priceless.

I’ve smelled both modern and vintage and I have to agree. The modern is more light, clean and powdery. The vintage has those qualities but you smell more of the amber, the civet the vanilla and the smokiness that helps balance out the powdery aldehydes. The vintage is more sexy and more universal where the modern smells more conservative. The vintage is like a woman in her prime, she’s confident and elegant but she has great sex appeal to her, not slutty or vulgar, but sexy in a classy way. Think of Gia Carangi in her prime in elegant Chanel clothing, completely covered and looking classy, but with that sex appeal.

The newer version is a tad bit conservative but in a groundbreaking way in my opinion. I adore it.

It really IS special. The modern formulation does not compare. Although they do keep as close to the original as possible (as they can with the current bans), the new formulation does not have the depth or roundness of the vintage! The amber & civet is unreal gorgeous! (16:38)

It will change and morph and slowly decay as I use it up... just like all things in nature do... death it a poetic part of perfumes and we should embrace it and enjoy it as it is a part of life

Hi ya Dacob, I too have a Grand Modele bottle of No.5 from the late 50's to early 60's, the stopper on mine is much thinner almost looks like a emerald cut gem also the GM flacon from that era holds 90 mls. or 3 fl.oz's, the bottle that holds 120 mls. is known as TGM (tres grand modele) hope my info has helped? PS. I own several vintage PM extrait bottles as well as recent up to date parfum (30 mls) which I'm not that fond of + I have a couple of MM flacon's that hold 56 mls, roughly 2 fl.oz's so basically I'm pretty much covered for vintage No.5, I just adore it, my other vintage fave from Chanel is Bois des Iles, sadly I have only one bottle in my entire collection, it's as scarce as hen's teeth 'lol'🐔🐔

Your thin stopper is from the 50’s to very early 60’s. My bottle is the TGM from the 60’s but it holds 116ml. Thats the correct sizing actually. We round it off to 120 to simplify the conversation. Of course from the fifties and earlier one could also try to hunt down the TTGM… the collection is actually never really complete… then there are all the variations of the spray/atomizer versions of the parfum of No5… also screw caps on splash bottles… and so on… the list is almost endless… haha.

I’m glad that Chanel no longer use civet, not all is bad in the evolution of Chanel No5. Nevertheless, I would still love to smell this, it’s a piece of history. It’s so close to the bottle in the famous Marilyn Monroe photograph.

If you are referring to the photo of her applying it in the mirror,she is actually using the eau de cologne version,but I believe the bottle by her bedside in many other photos was Parfum

@@josephthomas2786 No doubt. I think I was just making an association in my mind to fully appreciate the age of this Parfum as it’s not far from that era. Crazy to think this is parfum and it looks the size of a cologne bottle.😀

Correct Joseph. Mirror is EDC, bedside was Parfum. She had the parfum in the later 50's version with the flatter stopper. This one here is the 60's version with the thicker stopper but no "parfum" inscription on the bottle sticker.

What Chanel did to the Centenary of N•5 is beyod disaster. A simple film will do. But nah, they kept it cheap and tacky. Always for profit, since when did L'EAU represent N•5. They could've made a single bottle or 5 bottles of Chanel N•5 extrait de parfum in its original formulation and presentation, not caring to IFRA, and upholding the heritage of N•5. This bottle is not meant to be sold at all but to travel the globe and have it smelled by millions of fans. THIS IS N•5.

It's said that Dakob paid over £10.000 for this No. 5 parfum.😀
