You are definitely a life saver man! I called the shop today after having this issue and searching far and wide for a solution. Shop was backed up 3 months. I found this video today, gave it a shot, and bam!

I've bought my chain saw a few years ago from Walmart and the rope pulled unbelievably hard. I gave up on it and just left it in the shed. Yesterday I brought it in the house and just for the heck of it I slowly pulled the rope and it really pulled easy so the oil in the gas may have made it's way to the piston. So I'm going to try to start it and see how the rope pulls. If it still pulls hard than I will follow your instructions. I know pistons have to be lubricated and your video makes sense. So hopefully my saw will start using your instructions if it don't start on it's own. Thanks for the great video.

I've used straight Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinder following this same procedure and let it soak in for 24 hours or longer. I've used it in the past for breaking motors loose that sat for years I believe the rings get hung in the cylinder groves when they are turned off hot and then left to sit for a long time. I just pulled out my Stihl Farm boss 029 which I haven't used for a couple years. It was pretty bound up and feels like it will break your hand on the first couple pulls. It started up with a few pulls and full choke at 45⁰. Then after running a few minutes shut down and it was hard to pull again. Mine is 23 years old now and could be partly due to wear. Planning to use 30:1 gas mix from now on in hopes it will stay lubed. Be sure to let the saw run with blade locked for a few minutes to give it time to cool down after heavy use. Good troubleshooting video! 👍

Thanks! I'll try that tomorrow. I haven't used my chainsaw since we had a ice storm last Feb. that broke a lot of tree limbs. We just had another ice storm Feb. 1st that broke the rest of the breakable limbs. I figured I was just getting weaker (I'm 80) or the chain brake was locked up.

I have a Stihl 032 and the rope is very hard to pull. Normally I would remove the spark pull and it pulls easy. Put the plug back in and it pulls easy and starts. This year I removed spark plug pull and replaced plug and it is still very hard to pull. The piston is free when plug is out. Could this be a stuck exhaust valve?

Tried that on my Partner 7000 Plus and my Partner R420, sorry, didn't work, saws were just as hard to pull over after the treatment as they had been before. Whatever the issue is with saws that have been stored, lubricating the cylinder with 2T doesn't fix it.

Check the carbs, esp the fuel pump membrane. Use heavier oil eg 3in1 thru the exhaust port direct onto the skirt. Also oil the pulley the chain goes around.

The problem with my chainsaw was that it was stored incorrectly on it's side. The lower end was full of oil from the bar lubricator. Had to spray WD40 into the exaust to thin and drain it.

Use 3in1 oil take exhaust off, check piston for scoring, (if scored prob good idea to stop and give up) squirt oil onto skirt. The drive pulley for the chain should also be oiled with the same. Pull over without plug several times. Buy carb kit ~$5 off Amazon. Strip carb both sides wash all with carb cleaner/starter fluid, replace both membranes and gaskets. Replace gas with fresh premium mix. 95% sure it'll start

Won't pull or hard pull, mine was same after left for unspecified years (donation as user couldn't start). Squirted light oil, chain off, plug out, exhaust off on piston skirt thru exhaust. Pulled over a few times. Serviced carb. Still harder to pull over than partner saw but starts on third pull. Oh also oiled chain cog and recoil. Good luck! These saws never had decomp and we're always tough to pull
